Guys, thanks for all the help and insight. And yes, you are indeed correct that my car should have one. This weekend, I have been displaying my Duster at the Mopars in the Park car show up here in Minnesota. I found one of these seals at the Layson's Parts tent and promptly bought it for $58.00...
Guys/Gals: Should my 1974 Duster (slant six auto, non a/c) have a rubber gasket that seals up the gap between the front of the hood and the top of the radiator support? There are six holes there on the back side of the cross support on the front underside of the hood. I've had this seal on other...
Hi All: Attached are two photos of the exhaust manifold from my slant six 1974 Duster. I believe this is the factory original manifold, but I'm not sure what the date code "J-17" means next to the year 1973. Any ideas? Thanks.
No, I'm having a very experienced engine builder in Dayton MN do the job. I've never rebuilt an engine or a transmission. Since this car is a keeper and I want to drive it with confidence from coast to coast, it has to be rock solid reliable. At my age, I'm not planning on anymore engine...
Here's the latest update on the Dart engine. The crankshaft has been ground and is back. They did an amazing job on it - see photos. The rocker shaft is back from the shop as well. The rocker arms were re-bushed and everything is tight as a drum now. Block and head have been magna fluxed, but...
This is a package deal of a poorly running 1974 model year Chrysler slant six engine. The block and heads are the ones in the first photo. They look really good because they have been painted in a high quality engine paint. The block is good, but the cylinders have low compression and bad...
Well then my compliments to the women judges! They certainly know how to cast a nice engine block. Maybe one day on the bench adjudicating cases, next day working at the foundry. I'd take that job any day!
Hi All: Does anyone out there happen to know what the letters "AAWJ" molded into the left side of my slant six block mean? All ideas welcomed - thanks.
I'm rebuilding a more correct and original slant six engine. You can read the full story that I've posted on FABO entitled "Bob's Component Resto Part 36: Dusty gets a new motor, chapter one".
Well here's something you won't see much in FABO; driving impressions of a dying engine. Since the trusty slant six in my 1974 Duster is on its last legs and about to be replaced, I thought I'd mention what it's like driving an engine that's in the process of dying. Sounds morbid I know, but...
Thanks to all who weighed in. Just bought a new Carter pump and it looks great. BTW, had a conversation with a tech rep on the Carter help line. He confirmed what I suspected all along. The NAPA branded pumps are made by Carter, so if you buy a NAPA pump it's actually a Carter. No different than...
