Switching Caps in 8 3/4 Case

I am helping a friend with his 8 3/4. He has lost a cap from the center section. How likely will another diner cap work on his case? What I have heard is it is better to start with a new case. I know there are aftermarket caps available so it can be done. Cost of new caps may steer him to...

    Odd dimensions on a body 8 3/4

Last time I installed a shorter differential I bent my own lines and flared them. if you don’t want to bend and flare your own the if you can find sections of line with pre installed fittings at the auto parts store that are a little long you can put a few slight bends in the length so they...

    Reverse Manual Valve Body

If you are using the factory shifter they are not ideal for manually shifting. If going with an aftermarket manual shift valve body buy an aftermarket shifter if you do not have one already. You will not miss any gears.

Will I need a new Crush Sleeve?

I am replacing the yoke on my 489 case 8 3/4 center section. I will change the seal at the same time. Once I remove the yoke nut and remove the yoke, given I need to re-torque the pinion nut after the swap, am I going to have an issue with the crush sleeve that is currently installed if it is...

    the dreaded converter question lol

For converters, I have had good luck by contacting companies that specialize in converters. There are several good reputable companies like turbo action, Dynamic, Coan, ... that can give you a good recommendation or custom build one for you based on your drivetrain and car specs as well as your...

Housing Ends - What are people running?

I am in the process of narrowing a C Body 8 3/4. I have a few choices in housing ends the shop is offering me. For those of you that have modified your differential housings with new ends or purchased a new differential, have you used the Mopar ends with green axle bearings or have you chosen...

    Stock 8 3/4 axle strength

I did not find a search result on this so here is the question. How strong are the stock A Body 8 3/4 axles when equipped with longer studs? This is for a street car small block 4 speed stroker application and will not be using slicks or sticky rear tires. Just trying to prioritize where the...

    Transmission fluid leak

You will need to determine where the fluid is leaking from first. By parking on a level hard and clean surface you can see what area of the transmission, transmission lines or radiator is leaking from. It would also help to clean these areas first with engine shampoo, hose off and let dry...

    Need opinions on gear change.

I assume you have an 8 3/4 rear. Why not pick up a 3.91 pumpkin and try it. If it works you know you will be close with the new wheel/tire combo later on. You can then sell the 3.91 pumpkin to help finance the new wheels. If the 3.91 center does not work for you sell it.

    dana 60 question

I have heard of truck Dana's called Dana 60 HD which is suppose to have larger diameter axle tubes and case ribbing. Is it best to use the HD or standard Dana 60? If the HD has larger axle tubes the install would require mods on the perches and shock plates as well as larger U bolts. Thanks

Which studs for an 8 3/4 Housing?

I have a bare 8 3/4 housing that needs the studs for the axles as well as the studs to hold the pumpkin. What are the specifications of the studs I need and where can I purchase them? Do these just press in or should I apply any product to the ends to avoid leaks for the pumpkin studs? Thanks

8 3/4 Center Section Tear Down

The center is a 741. I will likely disassemble the unit, rebuild the limited slip unit with new clutches, clean and paint the housing and have a local shop to the reassembly and final adjustments. This is why I was wondering if I needed to record the measurments before I tore it down. I will...

8 3/4 Center Section Tear Down
