Small block headers: worst to best fitting. List your experience.

And on that note, my Nickle-plated TTI's fit pretty good. 360/A833, p/s, pdb, 68 Barracuda with a 70 Duster K, and 73 steering, on the 70 biscuits with the spool mount at the back. Initially, I used the Mopar starter, but when it died, I switched to the Dakota ministarter. and I do not use the...

    1969 Plymouth Barracuda 340 Manifolds

How much are TTIs now? or Dougs? compared to a nice set of 340 iron logs? You're paying a lotta money for the logs and giving up a lotta torque/power, throughout the rev range. Any header is better than no header. Jus saying. ------------------------------------- While the 340 logs are adequate...

    Header install question

Criminy, not many years ago, Every fall, I used to take my 367 out, and the trans, and the GVod and the rear pumpkin, and swap in a 318/A904/different gears, no GVod; for the winter in under two short days; drive it in/drive it out. That Barracuda was my DD for six years until my son made me an...

    Exhaust manifold gaskets

OP; Have you ever tried installing three individual gaskets simultaneously? With the brake booster in your line of sight, and the power-steering box cramping your room?

    Cupped washers

From the factory, AFAIK, for 318 cars; there were only two per side, one on each end, under the fine-thread studs. but 340 cars, there mightabin more. If they fit, I would install as many as possible. They were NOT there to solve a sealing issue. Rather to allow the manifold to walk back and...

    Tailpipe opinion

I once saw an exhaust, where the pipes had come up over the axle, then sideways between the frame and the spring, then out the back on the outboard side of the springs. I thought it was pretty clever.

    Tailpipe opinion

The generation that looked like the 1970 Nova, is on my list of all-time favorite looking Chevy cars. Like the 71 Demon is to Dodge. But I wouldn't put Nova pipes on a Demon, no way in hell. But I can imagine Nova pipes on Darts.

    Tailpipe opinion

Yes, I did move the shackles inboard. My leaf springs are nearly flat, so the stock rear location was wrong anyway. I remember doing something fishy back there with a welder, but due to that being 24 years ago, I forget what it was. Getting alongside the tank with those dual 3" cannons was a...

    Tailpipe opinion

I prefer the sound of the turn downs to the 340 rectangular straight backs, which is why I have them on my pipes. Plus; They seem to be more cop-friendly. Plus, I think it's kindof cool when your Hi-compression 360 is idling across the parking lot raising little individual dust devils as it goes

    Tailpipe opinion

I have TTI prebent pipes on my 68 Barracuda with the springs moved inboard by the so-called 3/4 inch offset kit. Tight but doable and no rattles even with the car lowered quite a bit. It seems that the TTIs are right on.

    340 vs 360 confirmation

In 74, the incoming 360-4bbl was rated at the same power as the outgoing 73 340-4bbl. and from my memory with the 74 Sport I once had, I believe it. But it had 20 cubic inches worth of more torque at the bottom. Something the 340 could never touch. So I guess your idea of peppy is not the same...

    340 vs 360 confirmation

a 360 in an A-Body was born peppy, and doesn't need much help. A Magnum needs even less. But if a rebuild is scheduled, the LA can easily sneak up on the Magnum.

    340 vs 360 confirmation

You said; "just a peppy daily driver." and, "I'm building a daily driver" But never mention what size of engine.

    340 vs 360 confirmation

For a streeter, The cam and gears combo will pretty much dictate if the headers are gonna be a big deal. IIRC the early 340 cars picked up something like 30 odd horsepower with headers, but up around 5000/5200. So if you had 3.23 gears with a TF auto, you might not get to 5000 in Second gear...

    69 Dart 360 exhaust

If you're going to more power later anyway, if it was me; I would get the 340 ones, cuz later, to get your power-numbers, you will for sure need headers, and then you can sell the 340 manifolds for the same or more than what you paid for them. Whereas, selling the less popular logs, bought from...

Real talk: exhaust manifolds on 360 Dart

Unless you build your low-compression 360 engine to take advantage of header-tuning, a header all by itself will not make much power. The power is in the combination of parts, released by the cam-timing events, augmented specifically by the effectiveness of the overlap period. The...

    Headers, 72 Duster 360 w-power steering

I have a 68 Barracuda with a 360 on a K from a 70 Duster, running a manual trans, and power-steering. The TTIs fit; tight in the Z-bar area but not touching, nor rattling at any time.

    OPINIONS ON EXHAUST SOUND

My opinion is Dynomax; long 3-pass. mine are 3" all the way. ------------------------------------------- my car is a manual trans and has run about every rear gear in the catalog, and with double-overdrive, down to the equivalent of 1.97 and even as low as 1.79, and currently 2.77. It has...

    Header advice

For several years, I used to take the HotRod 360 out of my DD Barracuda, in October, and reinstall it in May, having freshened it during the winter. The winter-engine was a Smog-era 318 with a TQ on it, a small-port CI 4bbl intake, and I left the TTIs/dual 3inchers/ with 3in-3out Dynomax turbo...

Big block exhaust is still loud

You need to take the engine down and lower the compression...... Five to one should do it ............ lol. No Just kidding. on my 367@ 11/1 the dual 3s are really loud at full-song. I installed the Longest 3-pass dynomax muffs offered in 1999 which quieted it right down. But to be even...

360 la headers & straight pipe

Guys, to clarify; I did not say to put a small-diameter full length pipe on a HotRod! that's just totally wrong. What I said was, and I quote; "or a really really short, small-diameter exhaust pipe" I mean, I even emphasized the "really" part. You know, like a Zoomie or an open-header without...

360 la headers & straight pipe

You want loud? you need high-energy in the exhaust. It's just that simple. A trumpet on the end of the pipe is gonna make it ugly. To get loud, you need; high cylinder pressure together with an early-opening exhaust valve; or a really really short, small-diameter exhaust pipe. My car has a 3"...

Suggestions Wanted For 408 Stroker Mufflers

In year 1999, I installed a 3" full-length TTI dual exhaust with the long 3-pass Dynomax muffs, on my combo. (the fit was great). They're still on there, and still not rusted thru. And I still like them. I've Final-drive geared that car from 1.97(double-od) to 5.38s, and it never had any drone...

    Yeah, The Flex-Pipe Doesn't Work...

Just richen the carb up for a few hours; it will soot up the pipes until they stop leaking, lol. After they are more or less sealed, you lean it out again........ lol. That worked for me in about 1975.

Band clamp at muffler hanger location?

No but, Here's what I did. Like you say I used that big fat overbuilt TTI hanger just to suspend it. After the entire system was installed and hanging perfect, I drilled two holes at about 3 and 9 o'clock, each one thru the rear muffler snout and Tail-pipe, both at the same time, and installed...

What's the best solvent for freeing up manifold heat control valves?

it's made by Ford. Comes in an aerosol, spray it on cold and walk away. Badaboom. Difficult cases might take a lil persuasion. I still have a part can from the 80s, kicking around, lol.

    tail pipe

I installed TTI headers and their 3inch duals, onto my 68 Barracuda(360/4spd). The rear end was narrowed, and the springs moved inboard with the offset kit. This to fit 325/50-15s inside the factory tubs. The car was lowered a bit so the wheels are actually in the tubs, but just barely. The...

Nasty drone slant 6 Pypes Street Pro

probably both or a bit of both. Slantys fire 153,624; three cylinders per revolution, 120 degrees apart. They are Born to drone. Getting rid of it can be a challenge. I recommend a single exhaust all the way past the body-line, a long 3-pass muffler, and a turn-down under the rear bumper...
