Flex plate bolts witness marks on torque converter

I can't see the sense of doing it the hard way. The bushing reduces the size of the crank pilot hole, and allows the use of a stock converter. There is no down side. Why spend a bunch of money on a special converter, when a low dollar bushing will accomplish the same thing. Granted if you want a...

When talking to any converter builder, if you are keeping your old transmission make sure they are aware of that.

Problem with getting a converter with the large pilot, is they may not be able to give you a High stall speed with the small splines to fit your transmission (those parts are getting hard to find). So then you will need to get a later transmission, or change the front section of your trans to...

Flex plate bolts witness marks on torque converter

Without doing mods to the converter and/or the trans, this is the situation. `1960-1967 trans and converters go together. 1968 up non lockup trans/converter go together. Not sure of the 1st year of lockup, but lock up converter must be used with lock up trans. All three versions of converter and...

Then you would need to find a flywheel with the small center hole, or again, use an adapter ring on the crank to allow use of the late model flywheel.

My memory is not what it used to be, but I think the 1.55 is the small pilot. You will need the adapter bushing. Contact member @slant six

    Welcome. New member

Big problem with oil "leaks" or burning is the PCV system. Might not be the valve itself. The carb has a passage for the PCV that gets plugged up. Remove the carb, and use a drill bit (I think 1/4 inch) by hand to clean out the passage. You need to go from the fitting on the outside, and also up...

Check the size of the converter pocket in the crank. The 340 engine will have the "large" pocket. The converter "MAY" have the small pilot. You might need to get the adapter bushing.

How strong is a T-5 transmission?

Quick time actually "goofed" when they made the slant six bellhousing. They should have made it to allow use of the small block size flywheel and multiple transmission bolt patterns. That would have allowed use of better clutches, and transmissions. Which would equate to a larger market. I had...

Yeah. I don't know where you would find bearings for it. I have an assortment of slant six bearings. .001, .002, .010, .012, .020, .030, .040, have never seen .050 but that doesn't mean they are not available on special order.

    Slant 6 stroker?

I find it hard to believe that you can increase the cubes of a slant six by almost 100 cubes. That is 1/3 bigger. 3.6 bore (.200 oversize) x 5.0 stroke (.875 oversize) will only give you 305 cubes.
