The longer you wait, the more things cost, ask me how I know lol.
Fortunately I've got the 400 virgin block.it seems stroker kit prices have leveled out somewhat
, $ 2700 for a 512 stroker kit
$2500 for heads and intake
Probably $2000 in cam and gear
Machining, gaskets, oil pump etc
$2800
Equals 10k
Plus another 1k for things you forgot
Equals 11k

Good carb, good fuel system, good exhaust, good converter, good tires, good transmission, good differential. Tied frame rails,

My $900 converter that I ordered a year ago turned into $1070 when it shipped, now I will be up to $1200 by the time I get it back. Would much rather have spent that money on a different converter from you know who.... lol

The shop I work with builds Mopar stroker engines all the time. There are usually three or four of them in process. They usually end up costing between $10K and $15K depending on the parts used. You can build a good street motor on a budget but you have to be super careful about part selection. It is best to work with a shop that has experience since they'll know what works and what doesn't. A lot of parts are junk these days, even some of the good brand names have gone down hill recently.

If I was going to do a 512 low deck I'd use a stroker kit that had a piston that was less than 10:1 compression with a TF240 head. Use the TF240 head, a Performer RPM intake, a small hyd roller cam, and Comp steel rocker arms. Those engines usually make 600 torque and something in the 550 range for HP. You can easily make more HP with a bigger cam and a single plane intake, but the street manners get a lot worse. Just depends on car weight, rear gear and how rowdy you want the engine to be.

Someone is getting ready to build a big block.

It's funny. The thread title says "strong 400 build" but you're asking about anything but a 400. lol

ok, Ill bite,
"a strong , 400 cid, low deck, Mopar block, bored and stroked to various CID configurations "

Not mine bit I found someone selling a fresh build with dyno video on facebook market place. It made 600 Hp at 6,000 rpm on 91 pump gas. They are wanting 10,000 for it. Is that a good deal or not?

That is definitely a good deal considering about $ 2800.00 of mine is just the intake and carbs that's not even counting what it would have cost to weld , port the tunnel ram & resurface all machined areas

It is a fair price if it was put together correctly with decent parts. Before buying it you should ask for a parts list and look over the receipts.
