I just bought a 4 speed console for my 71 demon. Now I need to find the correct type of shifter for my car. Was it the Hurst with the crooked handle, the regular Hurst, pistol grip? Did they even have a console 4 speed in 71 for a Demon ? Any help is greatly apreciated. Thanks, Warren

Im guesing it would be the curved Hurst one, cuz the pistol grip was in the E-bodys and B-bodys. Dave

It will be a Hurst handle with a flat-stock lower dog-leg and a round-stock upper that comes through the console. I may have a pic somewhere.

I agree with Jim look for a shifter that comes up a couple inches has flat stock that moves it over to the right (to center of console) then goes up with a curve towards the driver.
Hard to find and real expensive if you do.

I saw one go on ebay couple weeks back. Brought 4 bills. Thought about putting a console in mine, but thought again.

That handle would be easily duplicated, all you would need to do is bend a piece of flat bar ,drill it to where one end bolts to the shifter and the other end just weld a stock a body shifter handle to the other end of the bent flat bar where it does up through the hole in the console! I sure would do that before I paid 4 bills for a dang shifter handle.I am sure someone on here would be glad to give you some dimensions so you could make your own.

We made a copy for my son's Barracuda and then never used a console. We used the shifter in my other son's Dart as the pattern. The last pic is the home-made one.

Looks like it came from the FACTORY! Nice job! Just shows what a little determination and skill can do for you! If the truth is known it is probably stronger than an original! :salute:
