How many QTS does it take to fill a 904. I pre filled the converter with a QT but just am not sure how much to fill it with. Also do you check the fluid in neutral or park? I am not an auto guy I have 4 cars and this is the only auto. So this all new to me.

I just checked the 72 service manual, and Steve is right. Well its a little more than 2 Qts, the manual says 17 pints :D

Are you guys talking about how much the convertor holds or the whole tranny + cooling lines and cooler? If your talking about the whole deal 2 quarts isn't going to do shit for you.

the whole transmission holds about 5 quarts or so, 2 quarts is nothing

Yeah the converter will hold 2qts alone.

I thought it seemed low myself, but that's what Haynes shows for a 904 tranny.

I have now pulled out my 71 model year Chrysler Service manual and it shows that you start with 6 quarts then you should start the engine and allow to idle for 2 minutes, then shift tranny into all gears ending up in neutral, then recheck fluids and bring fluid level to add one pint. Once the tranny is at normal operating temps, then recheck level and add enough to bring the level to between the full and add one pint mark.

I think I'd trust this over Haynes, since this is from the boys who built her.

that was the trick add 6 qts and then check it .
