Moving to our New Server soon!

Well gang, I bought our new server this last week and I expect delivery this coming week.

I will try to make the move as quick and painless as possible, and I will provide warning as to any downtime I foresee. But with these kinds of things, you dont know how smooth a server move will go until afterwards.

Regardless, the process should be completed in well under a day.

Joey, sit down, fasten your seat belt and I'll shut up. Good luck from a guy with 3 long decades in the computer business. Now retired and sick for cars, a much better life.

You have your own hardware? Ok, that's not such a big deal, but that means you have your own internet connection that you host the site on... What kind of service do you have?

No, the blue checkmarks were in the middle of the page (left to right), near where the paperclip icons are now.....Hope that makes sense. It was so easy to see the posts you had subscribed to while searching the forums.

I believe they only show up now on the "Home" page now......

Ok, i've checked this 12 ways to sunday. Maybe it was in an older version of the software or something. Frankly im not even sure what specifically what your referring to.

What I can do is change this icon http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/images/black/statusicon/thread_dot.gif to something that would stand out more if you like....

I think the blue checkmarks have been gone since 12/15 or so. Changing that icon to a bold color would probably suffice. Thanks for your help and best of luck on getting it all switched over to the new server :homework:

The only thing I would ask for is for a relaxation of the size limits on picture "size" when posting photos. The only GOOD thing about the old server/system is that the size limits didn't work most of the time (shhhhhh...)

That may be a function of the software, which may not be really a function of the server, I think.

At least, maybe you could ask the software supplier to change the size limits, now that you have more room.

Maybe???:glasses9:

actually, that is a big part of why we need a new server. We have so many images they take up a tremendous amount of space. Processing those images, doing backups, etc just cripples the server.

So, are there going to be any changes in the acceptable photo size with this new, larger, server or are we still going to be restricted to the size we have been, all along?

Seems like a server might be available to address that problem. If it's just a matter of money, I'd gladly pay more for a "Platinum Membership" if that's what it takes to get this problem fixed...

Is it fixed, or is it still with us?

Thanks for all you do; it's the best site on the Internet!!!!

I hope not. Posting big-ass images makes it a damnuisance to read the whole page they're posted on.

Nobody said anything about "big-ass images" but it seems like most of the time I want to put a picture with the text of what I'm writing, the system refuses it, even if it's minimally-larger than the requiired size. Typical computer lack of flexibility. Even a 10-perceent change in the limits, could save folks a lot of grief.

I bought a program called "J-peg-Sizer" but, being the idiot that I am, can get the pictures re-sized, but can't uitilize the file in its new size...

Maybe I just need to work on that...:read2:

I think what Bill is complaining about is that his pics are pretty high res so they take up quite a bit of space.

Bill, your pics are probably saving somewhere once resized, but they are just somewhere you dont normally look, stupid programs:angry7::toothy10:

No - he's not talking about high res - he's talking about large dimensions taking up his whole monitor.

Im talking about storage size. We have more then 14 gig of photos, which is a PITA to backup every night and the biggest cause of our troubles.

Ah, mkay, Wow!!! Thats alot of pictures, 14 gigs may not sounds like alot, but thats alot!!! Just 230 pics takes up about 134MB. Just curious Joey, how many gigs of that is Hot Mopar Babes?

Bill, mostly what I do for pics is upload my full size pics to my photobucket account and then just paste thier link in my post, whatever it is.I still upload the occasional pic directly to Fabo, but like you said it doesnt always work out due to file size.

The photobucket account allows for full size pics without loading our server up. Im sure there are other places to upload pics and then link.

I agree on the photobucket and realize its usage far as not loading our server up.

The problem I have with it (most of you have seen this) is a person uses a photobucket picture then sometime down the road it gets deleted. Then if you click on that old thread their picture or pictures are gone.

Yup,that happens when the image gets moved during re -organization etc.It breaks the link. Now I do my best to get it into the correct folder BEFORE posting a link.
