All the parts were stuffed inside her
http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/5476/chaircraphl9.jpg
Yes the fenders were left bare metal in the back of the car :sad9:
http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/5594/fendersrearnf1.jpg
Scampire 09-21-2006, 01:12 PM Wow, that looks like quite the project. Good luck.
Bakarooda 09-21-2006, 02:36 PM Hehe... that looks awful familiar! Good luck!
1966 dart wagon 09-21-2006, 05:25 PM Well here was the first problem, the wiring, man i hate it but as i look back it wasnt that hard. Thanks goes out to everyone who helped me, like goody, and Jimmy(v8signet) thanks guys you helped alot.
The first night i got the car i unloaded all the stuff then i did get to fire her and drive her :headbang: (around my backyard) haha but then randomly it died and wouldnt start we figured it burned alot of gas or something. after loooking stuff over the ecu box was shot it was somewhat melted when we fired her and prolly just died, but then i got that fixed and it still wouldnt fire after LOTS of looking around i found out it was the Volts Regulator was for points and not electric ign. so i swaped that out with a volts reg that came with the car, she fired right up. man that problem stumped me and my dad, had lil spark got new coil anyways but then just that stupid volts reg.
1966 dart wagon 09-21-2006, 05:28 PM Here she is all clean :headbang: 4/15/06
soon after this i had to fix the belt routing because it was
crank: alt
crank: fan, ps
thats wrong plus with my ps not working i couldnt run the car which sucked so i got that all worked out from donated parts from misc. vans full of parts my dad saved over the years....heh and my mom calls it junk
1966 dart wagon 09-21-2006, 05:46 PM Well here is the right fender progress threw the stages, man its alot of sanding, but i wanna be a 'body specialist' or what not so i better get use to it
dad:' so you still wanna do this for a living'
me: 'sob $#(*%#%)*(&&*)#($#$$" censored for the kids :blackeye: haha
edit: awh it didnt put them in order like i uploaded them in...hmm..well you guys know the process
1966 dart wagon 09-21-2006, 05:55 PM time for 10 more pictures :headbang: the 2 pictures of metal pieces are the top supports where the fender bolts to the inner fender for the RIGHT side, that looked pretty bad
Longgone 09-21-2006, 10:28 PM I`ve got those fender patches to start doing on my 67. I`m not looking forward to the sander again! Looks like you`re off to a good start......keep the pics coming!
1966 dart wagon 10-02-2006, 10:06 PM Man i hate those pos fender patches, my left fender one is every farther off :wack: its really pissing me off, hell today in auto body class the teacher was saying how he wants me to do a fender patch on a chevy pick up the patch they got was a PERFECT fit, sob, lucky bastards....god, ok for some good though, i dont think i said this but when the right fender for the cuda was all done my dad and i were installing it and the stud on fender near the door, under wheel well, spun and i had to hack it off, well this caused a bump in the newly primer fender, kinda a step back but no big deal, fixed it today, now i need to find a way to pull the pulley off of my ps pump so i can replace the gaskets
Joe334 10-07-2006, 07:33 AM lookin good jack! Are you going to keep it blue when you go to paint it? or are you going with a different color?
I must say.....you are doing something that I probably will never be able to do..bodywork. I'll stick to the mechanics if you want to come do mine that would be great!
Lookin good man!!!
-RPM
1966 dart wagon 10-08-2006, 11:29 PM haha yeah sure body work is a pain all the freakin sanding but i got use to it, its much easier to work on your own car and be thinking "if i dont get my lazy butt out there nobody else is gonna do it" Im hoping tomorrow to get workin on the drivers side fender, the patch is so far off, im pretty pissed about that, awh, but its gotta be fitted somehow. I really wish i could drive it before winter :love4:
it is getting maybe a little bit lighter blue, along with the same stripes, 68 hemi scoop, 360 pushing 400+hp haha, and hopefully eventual a 4 speed and i also need a bigger rear end 7 1/4 dont cut it

Patience grasshopper! You might be too young for that quote, but just remember not to rush, and take the time to do things right. You`ve got the raw talent ,I can tell by your photos, so if it takes a little while longer to get something right, put off the ride until Spring, it`ll be worth it!!
Flatlander 10-10-2006, 12:23 PM Looking good.
Bakarooda 10-10-2006, 04:00 PM It's coming along man... I'm afraid to touch the bodywork on mine. Electrical and mechanicals is one thing, but I'll leave the body & paint to someone who knows what the hell they're doing! :)
1966 dart wagon 10-10-2006, 05:37 PM Patience grasshopper! You might be too young for that quote, but just remember not to rush, and take the time to do things right. yeah i am hearing alot of that, but its just so hard not to drive it haha
9teen7tSwinger 10-27-2006, 12:54 AM Where are you in sioux falls? I can't really place it using the first picture of the cross streets or the later pictures with the fields in the background. Your car is coming along nicely. I just had my dart out last night and pretty soon will be putting it into storage for the winter since it wont stay in the forties forever. Keep it up though. :headbang:
9teen7tSwinger 10-27-2006, 12:58 AM From what I can tell it looks to be out on W. 57th towards Tea, but I am not quite sure.
69signetv8 10-28-2006, 01:06 AM Jack...I remember your first day here dude. You have come a long ways and she looking mighty good....I'm happy for ya!
1966 dart wagon 12-14-2006, 06:12 PM well a new update, as of now, im working on trying to straighten the front vilance, for it, man what a pain, its all bent up. I also need to finish up the door jams that were redone.
I was gonna put a 360 into her but my dad mentioned that if i give it a basic rebuild, he would trade me for a 340 complete engine, probably paint it up for now, maybe a build down the road, money is really tight, with me being in high school, man id really like to have it driving by my last day of school, but the fender is just such a pain the the butt, i hate the new patch panels they don't fit for crap :cussing: well thats the update for now
memike 12-16-2006, 06:06 PM Jack!! beleve it or not, I can smell the body filler. :toothy7:
I never thout I would miss it. looking real good.

340dartswinger 12-17-2006, 03:13 PM any new pics of her jack?
1966 dart wagon 12-18-2006, 05:09 PM well here is a lil update on some new photos i just took, yep hot off the phone, didn't have the camera ready so i snapped em with my new phone i got, its pretty nice and the pics don't look half bad.
ha funny you should talk about filler mike i dont mind the smell, i like it haha :headbang: in a completely not drug related way haha. now i gotta straigten the vilance(sp?) some more, what a pain and fix that other dang fender, man those patches suck, this one is even more worse, i'll have to snap a few photos of that too.
another project of mine right now is this pickup i got. My dads friend blew the headgasket on it and gave it to me after a year of setting. its a 89 Toyota 4x4 3.0 v6 so its all together as of now cept the harmonic balancer, stupid shipping people, so all i need is that and i am ready for winter/off roading :evil2: man quarter pannels are expensive, any sugestions on where i can perhaps get straighter ones, ive seen some on here that suck and if they are like my patch panels for the fenders id like to be warned. Thanks
btw got a brand new radiator, 4 core woo
edit: for some reason its saying this when i go to upload pics

1966 dart wagon 05-24-2007, 11:21 AM Well as what happens to most people, you run into problems, sometimes (like me) you run in to them at the most annoying time. I was adding antifreeze and trans fluid to my car and yay it leaked....well it started off being the bypass hose (no biggy i have an extra one) replaced that, then apon farther inspection we noticed the waterpump was dripping i check under nieth it and yep it was the weep hole, so i had to get a new one, what a pain, so yesterday i went to work got one, came home pulled the old one off, and broke off the top most waterpump bolt off in the aluminum housing :angry4: well after some swearing, no biggy there is still a a piece of it sticking out. well then later i figure out WRONG WATERPUMP, awh, its a 69 motor wth, so i check ac and non ac motor, both of them exit the drivers side(i though all sb waterpumps exit passenger side?) anyways i got that figured out after looking in the books (and getting paid to look up stuff for my car cant beat that :) ) well its a 70-79 waterpump for a 318, ok done, get home we heat up the bolt still nothing, wont budge, break off what stud we have left, we tried using an impact screw driver and slicing a notch in the bolt to turn it out, nodda, then we use a reverse drill bit, and a easy out, nothing, actually we snaped my dads tap and die turning piece (dont know name its matco) no luck, well we decide now we have to drill it out, so we go about that, and we have about 85% of the bolt out and still no luck, hm now that i think about it can i heli coil it??? One thing my dad and his friends mentioned is we will probably have to put some ugly ass nut on the back side of the. what a pain im so close to driving her and then this happens. O and my tranny dipstick leaks to at the base where the factory welds hold on the bracket, i did some tacks around it the best i could, i guess we will have to see how that holds up. i was up untill 2 last night doing misc things on her, got the carpet it (dad went to bed) so there was not much more i could do so me and a friend decided to tackle it. I'll be doing more on this today i'll try and get some more pics up soon.
340sFastback 05-28-2007, 12:03 PM Jack, you could probably go to the next size up bolt and just tap that hole right out then drill the water pump hole out slightly. Running a nut on the back will probably work fine also, once painted it won't be very noticable.
1966 dart wagon 05-28-2007, 12:42 PM actually we ended up getting to tap it out, and not drill a bigger hole :headbang: also under engine issues i discussed that i couldnt get my car to start, well it ended up being that my less then 1 year coil was bad, i put on one we had laying around and she right up. Also we had some carb problems, ended up forgeting to connect the choke, so that made the old 2bbl run good, and i finaly got to take it out on the streets, on my Graduation day (just graduated yesterday May 27th) woo so 6 of my buddies piled in my car and we went down the road in back. the car got up and moved ok from a roll, i didnt expect much, but it was sure as hell fun, got alot of looks, with no front end on and 6 people inside :headbang: man it was fun. Next is to finish the other fender so i can go to the local cruises :D

The finish product, yes i know the air cleaner looks like crap but it didnt make sence to buy one, then guy another one for the 4bbl :headbang:

well i took some zinc or what ever its called (don't recall name) to the intake it looks a lil better any suggestions on cleaning it? my dad mentioned some like acid stuff they use on semi's or something that he use to use, worked really good
redfastback 06-05-2007, 11:38 PM most cleaners are harsh to aluminum. put it in the oven and bake it to soften the grease and then shoot it with engine degreaser and rinse with hot water. then beadblast it.
1966 dart wagon 06-07-2007, 10:29 PM well i did some work today on the new intake and carb. My friend was discussing holley carbs with me and mentioned that people put mettering blocks on the secondaries of the carb i have this allows them to change gets as apposed to drilling holes in the secondary fuel holes, sounded like a good idea to me and he has an extra carb same as i have laying around, tomorrow im going to dip the carb so its all clean.

340sFastback 07-01-2007, 09:52 PM That is coming along nice. Are you going to paint the whole car?

eventually it will be B5 blue, i probably wont end up doing it, even though i am going to be going to school september for auto body, its just paint is expensive, i havnt had much for practice, and the guy my dad knows is a good friend and does awesome work, but we will see.

I got the fender as straight as i could but in order to get the super smooth finish you gotta do it, i felt bad putting on so much filler but its what you gotta do
Longgone 07-02-2007, 02:21 AM Looking good Jack! You can get in good practice, then come see me and we`ll get you a real challenge on my vert.:toothy10:
FASTBACK340 07-02-2007, 05:28 AM Your doing a great job Jack!
Your car looks soooo damn GOOD! 8)
1966 dart wagon 07-03-2007, 12:22 PM Thanks alot John, yeah its even better to know that my dad hasnt helped me at all on this fender, and it sure helps alot now that i know what im doing a lil more compaired to last summer and body work.8) its going alot quicker that is about 2-3 days of block sanding, but i take alot of breaks cause its so hot out and i have an ac from the other side of the shop blowing hot air at me, and man does that dust get EVERYWHERE :-D
340sFastback 07-14-2007, 09:12 PM Looking good. Keep us posted on the progress.
1966 dart wagon 07-25-2007, 01:42 PM Well ive been on hold for a lil while cause its been so humid outside lately its to hot to work in the shop, and it dont help i have my dads ac (from the front shop) blowing the hot air almost right on me. I got a new tool box along with a set of craftsman tools pretty sweet, but i think im going to ad a middle box for more room. I cant make it wider box has to be 30 inches and under in width.
The Plastic wrap is to keep all the sanding dust off of it

7DUSTER3 07-25-2007, 03:08 PM I just bought myself my first tool box set, identical to yours but in black. Spent a lot of money at sears that day. The salesmen said that it was an investment, I'm really pleased with craftsman tools. Your car is coming along great. To bad we cant do the body work like you on our duster. Keep it up!
1966 dart wagon 08-07-2007, 11:46 PM well im getting closer, still cring at the look of all the filler but man it will be smooth, i do wanna add that i hate the stupid body line :P its so freakin annoying to recreate, i worked a good 6 hours on that alone and still not even close:wack::???:

smokinwanda 08-08-2007, 06:48 PM Jack, I feel your pain, and progress. I knew right off the bat, I don't do body work, I make it!! ( from my bow tie stock car days). I turned my 67 fish (Wanda) back in Oct. of last year. She might see color by the end of this month. I think you've done a better job than the shop I hired (time wise)!!
You've done a GREAT job, and used your time well. don't get impatiant in the final stretch! Sometimes slower is faster.
P.S. I miss driving my car at the track too!!

late 60s barracuda fastbacks are extreemly hard to find around here in central south dakota area, i tried to find one before i bought my 74 duster, couldnt even find a shell. where did you pick yours up at?

I know what you mean, I have been trying to get the little "gutter" (for the lack of a better word) around the rear wheel well perfect, I have redone it 4 times, but I think I finally got it. I used a new trick. After filling it with glazing putty (Evercoat) I wrapped a 3/4" dowel with some rubber tool drawer liner and a piece of 80 grit and slid it back and forth along the bottom edge of the gutter until I was happy with the with the shape of the top edge, then I knocked down the sharp ridge with some 120 grit on a small sanding block.

1966 dart wagon 08-09-2007, 04:08 PM my dads friend actually found it, he was looking at a bb chevy truck for the engine and he was talking with the guy and mentioned he had a cuda, he(dads friend) isnt a mopar guy and knew i was on the look out, we stoped on over about a week later with car trailer along and took her home right there :) fun times, well i hope to be getting the fender/front end together so i can at least drive it this summer but man its a pain. thanks for the comments guys
smokinwanda 08-09-2007, 06:31 PM Jack, going to see mine tonight at the shop. I see ya bustin your ass on these fenders, and I realized that you'd kill me if you new what I did!! I had "Kustom rides" in Gresham Or. "stretch" my fenders for 17" wheels! One fender was perfect, and one had a crease over the script. At least I've got way cool wheels to put back in them. Torque thrust "O"'s with the natural finish. Very old school. I see all these coments about how few of these gen2
fish ya'all got there. Come out west here, at least you can see em once or twice a month at the local cruise-ins. Bet I've seen 20 different ones this year!
If you ever get in a pinch for parts, try Wildcat Autowrecking in Sandy Or. You can find them at www.wildcatmopars.com. They probably have 50 of these cars in different stages of "donation".
Keep after it, your doin' great!!
1966 dart wagon 12-18-2007, 08:39 PM Well now that im in school for auto body repair, and i got a job at a body shop  and better yet i get to work on old cars well for now. to bad they are fords :P, so now i have 2 jobs and am trying to save for qt pannels for my barracuda so i can put them on in my body shop classes, some good news the price of qt pannels went down a lil only $405 to get them both from paddock...yet 150 to ship :| wow! Im also doing a qt pannel on a 66 chevelle right now, and man those aftermarket pannels are junk, guy decided to be cheap and NOT buy the factory orginal, but like my teacher says "you cant build a show car with Sh!t" body lines are about 1/4 in off from the doors :O kinda makes me ticked i cant buy the factory qts for my cuda but o well i'll figure it out. Just though id update you guys on what im up to currently. I havnt gotten time to work on my fender lately, work, school and its way to cold outside to be doing that. Im trying to save every penny. i'll keep you guys posted

1966 dart wagon 12-19-2007, 11:31 PM Well thats cool there are multiply younger mopar enthusists around here  so now with 2 jobs i hope i can save up the money soon to get those qt pannels. it doesnt help i have 2 projects now, i want parts for my daytona and cuda, but the cuda is getting 'dibs' on the money right now :D. I dont know why but after so long it like kicks my thread off the members list lineup, i dont know why so i figured id bring it back and update
and like everyone I NEED MORE MONEY haha:P
Nice looking Barracuda man....keep going and don't give up. That broken bolt looked like a pain the butt, I hate that! I broke off an exhaust bolt in the head just before putting the motor in my car, I was so mad. I went through about $20 in drill bits and finally had to call in an experienced friend to finish it off for me, I just didn't have the patience. He had a nice set of taps to finish the job.

broken bolts are the worst. exhaust bolts are the worst of the worst. i have had to pull engines to get at them better.
speaking of cudas, how are both of yours coming along????
1966 dart wagon 04-06-2008, 03:53 PM Well after all winter i finally sold my blazer and had enough to finally order quarters woohoo:cheers: So i got them in 2 weeks ago...all bent to heck so they were sent back. I started sanding some more on my fender last week but it was to cold out to add any filler so i just shaped it some more, i did notice working at a body shop and going to school has helped me out with shaping filler alot so i hope to get moving alot more then last summer :D Hopefully i'll get working on her again some time soon once it warms up a little more.
1966 dart wagon 05-20-2008, 06:47 PM WOOHOO its finally warm out again so i can get working again
anyways i got my quarter pannels in for the second time, look like a hail storm hit them, didnt wanna wait any longer so i said eh and took em. right now im redoing my transmission pan gasket(which i did last year) but it still leaks so im tracking that down, the shifter shaft seal is a PINA trying to do in the car. I"ll get picks of the quarters soon.

The replacement quarters they`re selling now are pretty low quality. I just went through the same thing as you. My quarters looked like they had cellulite. I `ve blocked them once and they`ll need to be done again. They should all be skim coated once installed. It would be so nice if a higher quality panel was available.

1966 dart wagon 05-20-2008, 11:02 PM thanks, :D well tonight i said screw it and couldnt get the new shifter shaft seal in so i dropped the trans its out now and the seal is in woohoo. Im not happy with paddock myself, I visited thier store in knightstown Indiana and they were out of stock on my brake line (shocking) so I paid there and they waived the shipping. A couple weeks later my brake lines arrive with the ends sticking out of the box with packing tape around them! WTF...They were not damaged but could have been! An ear full someone will recieve on my next visit!
1966 dart wagon 05-22-2008, 09:43 AM is it just paddock that ships stuff so crappy, since i know everyone gets the parts(body pannels) from the same place in tiwan. and i can tell the dents were not from shipping they are from the plant or were dented before shipping. thoughts???:angry7:

I think everybody tosses them in a big box with little more than the box to protect them during shipping, but like you say, the dents are probably there before they even go in the box.
1966 dart wagon 05-24-2008, 12:58 AM well added transmission fluid today and fired her up. noticed it still have a 'stuck lifer tick' to it restarted it a couple times and it eventually went away woohoo. i had a question plugs are black(very rich) same goes for the exhaust which way do the adjustment screws go on the stock 2bbl (carter right??) to lean it out some is it in or out, i dont remember. other then that it ran great  now i just need some warmer weather to throw some mroe filler on that dang fender so i can get her moving at night time for the cruises my favorite :).
O and did i mention i go to school for auto body, done for the summer and got a job at a body shop full time now.:-D

Good work on your Barracuda! It gives some inspiration to watch real projects grow with limited budgets rather than those on TV. Keep the pictures coming.
I seem to be delayed everytime I intend to start something on my 67 Barracuda 383/4spd, or my garage is filled with something else than my cars..
FISHBREATH 06-11-2008, 07:49 AM Your progress is a great inspiration, Jack, keep up the good work and the postings.
Kent, I am in the same boat with you. I found a '68 Barracuda fastback locally in May. I have been building out the shop inside my garage since last September (time is very limited), but it is coming along, despite periods of inactivity due to various unrelated circumstances. I will probably have the garage/shop ready by this September; however, I have been working on deciding how I want the car to be when it is done. I have been garnering all kinds of great info from this site and will soon start ordering the necessary parts.
I would like to do as Jack is doing by posting progress (or lack thereof) photos on the site to help others down the road.
Way to go, Jack.

Very true, but A bodies used Kelsey Hayes, B bodies used Bendix, and C bodies used Budd for calipers. None of the 3 interchange between spindles.

What type of retainer goes in by the headlight bezel where the surrounding black piece screws in, hard to explain. Im talking about the two metal pieces that branch off of the headlight retainer/bucket.

springs???
1966 dart wagon 09-19-2009, 08:43 PM Well the headlight surrounding bezel which is black goes on the car, and there are spots to put what i think is screws though the black bezel then go into those spots im talking about...but i have no idea what the clip would look like, maybe something like that license plate screws screw into??? but much smaller
1966 dart wagon 04-15-2010, 09:55 PM Left work early and decided to pull the doors off my car, Im going to sand blast the jams, prime them then start on the outside.

oh nothing much, still around mopars alot, just kinda shifting gears, I did a complete resto on my daytona last year while at auto body school, im also in the middle of kinda restoring a 77 yamaha RD400, I hope on here every once and a while to see whats going on, dont post much, but as last year. Good weather = must work on cars, and since I do bodywork now its much easier/faster, and since one car is done well now I will start working on this. Im like everyone, to many projects not enough time/money. But the cuda requires less money(since its mainly body work) so just time and I'll see what I can do about getting alot done this summer.
I was just cruising the Paddock Site i just found out they make inner wheel wells now woooooohooooo!
4spdragtop 04-15-2010, 10:40 PM Hey Jack, just flipped thru some of your thread pretty cool and glad to see you back here, just an FYI, Paddock has gone tits up, they are in serious trouble, so dont give them any $$$. If you order, do it without giving them anything. Check some other threads on here about them.

ah really thanks for the heads up! I'll look into it!
1966 dart wagon 04-21-2010, 12:19 AM Finished my doors and hinges today, tomorrow I'll be taking them to work to epoxy prime them, along with a header pannel for my dads trailduster plow truck. I also stripped the truck chrome, took the tail lights out, then stripped the door jams of all the items along with the rear side marker lights. I think I may be working on the door jams this weekend, or maybe pulling the qt pannel out, it was hit on the right lower on the frame rail so we'll pull that out and get it fiting nice with the truck. Dont worry I'll take plenty of before and after photos! As already mentioned luckily I do body work and my dad does frame work so its perfect! I'll get photos up tomorrow when I prime the parts.

65_valiant 06-20-2010, 07:06 PM Man!! What a GREAT thread!! I started in on my car today, only had a few hours to start in on the piddle things to pull the motor/trans out.
Threads like this is whats giving me the motivation to tackle the car, again.
Job well done Jack!
1966 dart wagon 07-19-2010, 12:12 AM Forgot to take pictures but I repulled the dash/gauges to redo a spot, and touch it up, do A lil more wirng work. Also completely cutted the car, all interior is in boxes and now ready to do those Quarters, but need to order wheel wells first. I noticed nobody makes trunk extensions. Has anyone tried using a 67+abody one, it states on year one that they will not work, can I Make them work(I can modify them so I guess i could) I just want it to look somewhat orginal not like I just put a flat piece of metal back there to make it work, I want it to at least have the drain holes and look correct.
I'll get pics ASAP

redfastback 07-19-2010, 10:10 AM Do you have rusty wheel wells or are you minitubbing it? Not sure if std a body trunk extensions will work since you have a small trunk.

Auto Body Specialties has a trunk extension that will work beautifully. It will need a small amount of trimming. I replaced a pair on my 67 Barracuda convertible.

Thanks for the tip, I see its the same Part number as a later dart/duster So as it states and you did you, minor trimming that'll work for me! Now to order these too. Oh and Im not going to mini tube, It had crossed my mind, but after seeing that I'd have to modify the interior pannels and on top of that I have to relize what the car will really be for, Just cruising around, I mean sure I want it to have a warmed over motor but the older Im getting and the longer ive had the car I just come to be more 'realistic' on the hole thing, But still wanna go 4 speed and pistol grip!
