AdamR 11-03-2006, 01:05 PM I got out of work nice and early today so I went to clean up the Scamp a little bit.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000505.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000508.jpg
The only rust on the car, Just surface. I should fix it soon though.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000517.jpg
This explains why the car is so clean for 36 years old.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000513.jpg
The window regulator needs to be fixed. Im hoping the missing bolts are the problem but most likely some one took them out to remove the window and never finished.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000515.jpg
Anyone know what this second pipe is ? Some type of vent ?
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000518.jpg
Im going to start cleaning up the engine compartment more. I need a new mater cylinder, so I'll remove that and the wiring to make it easier to clean. I'm also going to switch to manual sterring so the power box can come out. Im not doing any of this till I have the parts though.
Then Its off to the interior, new carpet, front seat cover and a 8 point roll bar, a few odds and ends is all it needs.
The only thing Im doing to the outside of the car is either replace the hood with a fiberglass bolt on 6 pack hood or buy a 3" tall Hemi scoop for the hood thats on the car. Id rather not cut the hood though even though its not original.
DJVCUDA 11-03-2006, 01:41 PM damn... no rust.... i dont know what thats like....
416 scamp 11-03-2006, 01:45 PM very nice adam. still cant get over how solid the car is. :headbang: If it were me Id put the 6 pack hood on, that would look tough. About the tube, must be some kind of vent. Mine didnt have one unless someone took it off before I got the the car. again just wanted to say nice car.
AdamR 11-03-2006, 02:08 PM Brett, I think the 6bbl hood is what Im going to use. The tube is only on California Emiision cars I was told. Still dont know what its purpose is and when I change the tank it will probably come out.
AdamR 11-03-2006, 02:10 PM damn... no rust.... i dont know what thats like....
Im getting use to it real fast, LOL
I found some inspection marks todat too wich is cool. I never had a car that wasnt mess with, usually all that stuff is long gone when I get it.
DJVCUDA 11-03-2006, 02:16 PM it really has bottoms of quarters???
lol... good for you dude, it was worth the trade for that alone....
AdamR 11-03-2006, 02:18 PM Its also got this strange panel that connects the trunk floor to the bottom of the quarter that usually isnt there.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/DSCF0017__8_.jpg
DJVCUDA 11-03-2006, 02:23 PM wow.. is that a drain plug??? what the hell is that for? LOL!
AdamR 11-03-2006, 02:25 PM I think thats the hole you use to fill it with foam when making new quarters. This car Is loaded with under coating. Must weigh a ton.
7demon2 11-03-2006, 02:33 PM so adam when are you gonna change your avatar?
AdamR 11-03-2006, 02:40 PM LOL, I didnt even think of that.
onehellofadart 11-03-2006, 02:47 PM Looks good Adam!
mikesduster 11-03-2006, 03:51 PM hey adam,
i might be selling my 6-pack hood so if your interested, you know how to get in touch with me!! :headbang:
EvilScamp 11-03-2006, 03:54 PM The only rust on the car, Just surface. I should fix it soon though.
I hate you!!!!:cussing:
That vent pipe is for the gas tank ,there is 4 or 5 rubber lines that come out of it to the tank.
AdamR 11-03-2006, 03:57 PM Sorry Kev, I got lucky on this one.
As for the vent lines they will go when I change the tank.
EvilScamp 11-03-2006, 04:03 PM Sorry Kev, I got lucky on this one.
As for the vent lines they will go when I change the tank.
My 71 Duster has it, haven't decided if i'm gonna use it or not.
AdamR 11-03-2006, 04:09 PM My tank is half full of gas that id who knows how old so I need a tank anyways.
daves66valiant 11-03-2006, 04:38 PM Looking good. Can't wait to see the newest Rampant Scamp report
AdamR 11-03-2006, 04:59 PM hey adam,
i might be selling my 6-pack hood so if your interested, you know how to get in touch with me!! :headbang:
Mike, I wanted to go with a bolt on but let me know if you decide to sell it. I'll do a pin on for a good price.
khughesprime 11-03-2006, 05:11 PM Have you found a broadcast sheet ?
AdamR 11-03-2006, 05:20 PM I havent looked for it yet.
416 scamp 11-03-2006, 06:44 PM now you will have to add your new ride pics to the photo garage
AdamR 11-03-2006, 06:45 PM Didnt think of that.
AdamR 11-04-2006, 03:24 PM I ound my missing dome light and steering wheels center cap today under the back seat. Then I noticed that the front seat belts are all missing and one of the sun visors is broken. I guess I broke even on that deal.
I also found the build sheet under the front seat. At least I think its the build sheat, I havent taken the seat out but theres some paper under it.
ta3834bbl 11-04-2006, 04:21 PM I bet that is some kind of stand pipe like plumbers use, one that lets the fuel vapors expand some when the tank heats up. That way the fuel cap can be a non-vented one and the charcoal vapor canister can do it's job of recovering vented fuel, ie, california stuff. I just checked in all my pictures of my 68 barracuda and found I don't have a truck picture yet, so I don't know if my cali car has one or not. I don't remember seeing one.
demon seed 11-04-2006, 04:41 PM It looks like you really lucked out Adam, where the hells all the rust, it's not fair. When I had to redo the Demon I started with more rust than sheet metal it's not fair. Anyway have fun and keep us up to date on your progress.
1966 dart wagon 11-04-2006, 05:02 PM wow so u traded that for the cuda, nice, luckly it has no rust, im still :cussing: about the rust on my car and in the fenders, what a pain but i wanna do bodyworkin the future so i better get use to it haha, right now im working on my door jams what a pain :sad1:
FASTBACK340 11-04-2006, 08:34 PM It does look nice & solid there. You done did good, Dude... Too bad the B`cuda was too much of a project. Besides, the Scamp is probably as unique as the old Fastback.
Mopower71 11-05-2006, 12:50 PM Where did you find such a rustfree Mopar in the north east?
valiantdave 11-05-2006, 04:39 PM looks very solid
duster340 11-05-2006, 05:50 PM all that sheetmetal without patches or rustholes makes me confused ;)
almost unreal! great find!
AdamR 11-05-2006, 06:26 PM Where did you find such a rustfree Mopar in the north east?
I got it from a guy in PA, he picked it up at Carlise from someone who brought it from CA.
AdamR 11-12-2006, 06:58 PM I bought a few odds and ends for it today, A set of dog dish caps and a few of the missing interior parts.
I see that trans-dapt has a /6 to V8 swap kit for $60 so Im going to give that a try.
I also need to pull the gas tank out and drain the old gas so the fumes can evaporate. If the tank isnt full of rust I'll have a sump welded on to it.
416 scamp 11-12-2006, 07:19 PM Moving right along. Are you going to paint the wheels the same color as the car? I think that will look good with the dog dish hub caps.
AdamR 11-12-2006, 07:28 PM Im gping to leave them black for now. Im going to end up buying new rims at some point anyways.
Eric_S68 11-12-2006, 08:47 PM Surface rust? I'm not sure I envy you or hate you right now. :lurk: Happy Building ! Keep the pics coming !
Thrashard340 11-12-2006, 09:27 PM Nice find Adam.
AdamR 11-14-2006, 01:27 PM It looks like some one else has played with this thing a little but. I think someone was getting ready to do a V8 swap. The steering box was taken off at one point, the gas tank has been out, some one took the sending unit and it looks like the rear was going to be pulled. Brake line cut, shocks unbolted. Strange but they saved me some work.
I also did some measuring while I was under the car. There 12" from the quarter panel lip to the wheel well. So if I use offset spring hangers a 255-60-15 should fit perfect on a 15X7" rim with 4.5 backspacing.
AdamR 11-19-2006, 12:34 PM More cleaning and a few little parts bolted up for test fitting. The dog dish caps look pretty good but I think I may paint the rims body color and perhaps find a set of 68 style caps. I like them a little better.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000564.jpg
Build sheet still intact.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000562.jpg
If you look you can see the 3" tail pipes. I think turn downs would look better
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000560.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000559.jpg
Dont mind the floor jack. Its just keeping the car level. Kinda need a set of springs. I'm gonna go with Calvert mono's and a set of caltrac bars.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000558.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000557-1.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000556.jpg
340 radiator in place. Im going to hide the MSD box and line lock though.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000555.jpg
Needs a sharktooth grill
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000554.jpg
And last, Thanks for the stickers John :headbang:
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000565.jpg
Not bad for 36 year old paint. I havent even had a chance to glaze it yet. This is just after some compounding and cleaning the trim, swapping the hub caps and shining the tires.
EvilScamp 11-19-2006, 01:46 PM Cars lookin good Adamhttp://www.smileytown.com/application/content/exct0005.gifmakes me jealous everytime i see it,mine looks like it exploded!
What engine are you gonna run in it?
416 scamp 11-19-2006, 01:53 PM Looking real good adam! Cant wait to see the motor in it. Painting the wheels would look real good.
AdamR 11-19-2006, 01:54 PM I have a nice little 480hp 340 for it. Im stil trying to decide if I should put some stock valve covers on it and spray it blue or not.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/IM000607.jpg
416 scamp 11-19-2006, 02:02 PM VERY NICE! Keep it as is :headbang:
daves66valiant 11-19-2006, 03:48 PM Are those aluminum heads? That's one stout 340 :headbang:
Agreed. I would keep it as is too. I have the same valve covers but mine are polished. I really like them. :love4:
AdamR 11-19-2006, 04:20 PM No they are cast iron heads. Just well ported 360 heads. I like the way the motor looks but Im having fun with the sleeper thing. Obviously there are things I cant hide like the headers and single plane intake/holley carb. But I was thinking it would look less speedy if I painted it blue including the intake , ran stock valve cover and maybe a a stock aircleaner with a 318 sticker on the lid.
Im going to feed it with a Carter mechanical strip pump, 1/2" fuel line and a MagnumForce Racing 1/2" sending unit. Exhaust is going to be TTI headers, 3" TTI X pipe, DynoMaxx ultraflows and 3" TTI tail pipes without tips.
daves66valiant 11-19-2006, 04:43 PM Seems like we are trying to do the same thing with our cars. Keep the nostalgia but with a few extra little goodies. I'm a big fan of both the resto original look and tasteful modification. I quess I could take off my old 273 valve covers and paint the intake too since I'm already using the 273 brackets. Hmmm...Not sure why we are trying to kid ourselves being sneaky.... :---) :headbang:
You've got a few more horses in your build. I went with the 3/8" line to a ported H-flow Carter from FBO. I looove the tti setup so far. I posted a few new pics on my resto thread.
Weird not seeing the cuda in front of the garage. I miss that thing but a rust-free A-body makes up for the yanked heart-strings.
Keep us posted
7demon2 11-19-2006, 04:54 PM i would go with the "stock" blue engine look. what a sleeper. looks great so far...
AdamR 11-19-2006, 04:54 PM I have always had cars that were obviously not stock but werent really that fast , I want this one to be the opposite. I looked a few cars in the last year and one was a 65 Valiant I was going to due stock looking 273 4bbl car.
memike 11-19-2006, 05:05 PM Wow I like that 66 valiaint. nice one Dave
Daves67Cuda 11-19-2006, 06:20 PM very sweet car, go for the stock sleeper look. very nice. dave
416 scamp 11-24-2006, 06:48 PM Adam I have a old manual box I got out of the junk yard. It leaks but I guess you could put a seal in it or do you have to send them off for that
AdamR 11-24-2006, 07:06 PM Brett, Im not sure. I'll have to check the service manual. Its probably not that hard though.
Firmfeel sells rebuild kits, $50 for the seal $100 for seals and bearings.
416 scamp 11-24-2006, 07:11 PM If you are interested in it let me know. If you feel like messing with it I will let you have it
AdamR 01-01-2007, 03:02 PM Ok, so I'm not going to sell the Scamp and buy a Mustang. I think I was getting a little aggravated with not getting any time to at least tinker with the car. Once its in the new garage I'll feel better.
I do think I'm going to make some changes to the 340. A smaller cam and intake and it should be plenty streetable with my converter and some 3.91s. Im not looking for the fastest thing, Just a nice mid to low 12 second streeter. Im thinking a Comp Cams XS282 and a Performer RPM intake will work well.
Id also like to that 416 Scamp and BJS for the parts they hooked me up with.
duster340 01-01-2007, 03:33 PM Ok, so I'm not going to sell the Scamp and buy a Mustang. I think I was getting a little aggravated with not getting any time to at least tinker with the car. Once its in the new garage I'll feel better.

i understand your sleeper thinking, but i also think that that tall singleplane and big cam actualy may help you alitle hooking it up since you dont have the space for big tires unless you make more room for it, cant remember what converter you have but with less stall than optimal for a dragcar and higher rear gears you may be able to hook up the power easier, but i am biased since i realy like big cams and real hot streetengines ;)
AdamR 01-01-2007, 08:37 PM I wouldnt say Im switching to a small cam, just smaller. Right now its 260/265 @.050" the XS282 is 248/252 @.050" so its still a good size cam and should work better with my 4200rpm converter and 391 or 410 gears.
416 scamp 01-02-2007, 12:35 PM Your welcome Adam. Glad to here you are keeping the scamp. I bet once you and the family get settled in around the house, you will be tearing into the scamp.
OldVart 01-02-2007, 02:39 PM [QUOTE=AdamR]Ok, so I'm not going to sell the Scamp and buy a Mustang. I think I was getting a little aggravated with not getting any time to at least tinker with the car. Once its in the new garage I'll feel better.
Adam, my boy, now you're talking!! We all get the garage car blues at times, and it's hard to get yourself back in the groove because you begin to think you'll never get this baby on the street again. Hang in there with the Scamp! :blob:
Guitar Jones 01-02-2007, 07:58 PM I'm using a larger cam (277 and 280 @.050) with a T/A 4200, 30" tall tire and 4.88's. If it were me I'd put it together first and get it running. See how it works and then tinker with it from there.
memike 01-03-2007, 08:24 AM Glad you are keepin the dart too,It sure is a nice car!! :salute:
I am lookin forword to watching it get bilt to your spec's :coffee2:
Dustpan 01-04-2007, 05:11 AM I love the sleeper look, as well. So does my son, here is a pic of his Dart, it has the springs moved inboard and wheelwells enlarged so it has 10" rims in the back. It also has a Hemi scoop on the hood. Ran a traction limited 12.90 at 112mph in street trim.
http://album.hybridz.org/data/500/dart_small.jpg
Just a little inspiration for you.
EvilScamp 01-04-2007, 03:54 PM Dustpan tell your son he got a hell of a nice Dart!
Gotta love steelies and dog-dishes!:)
Guitar Jones 01-04-2007, 06:16 PM Nice Dart but that scoop kind of ruins the sleeper look for me.
BoredandStroked 01-04-2007, 07:34 PM I like the sleeper look and I love your car Adam. I knew I should have gone up to PA sooner! Haha, good luck with it.
AdamR 01-21-2007, 06:33 PM Finally had a chance to move the car to the new house today ! Should have a good amount of parts coming soon also, TTI headers, new gas tank and sending unit coming from Mancini's and the Motor mounts, Mini starter and Flaming River steering column adapter coming from Summit. This thing may see the road this year.
Mopower71 01-21-2007, 06:43 PM Cool deal
416 scamp 01-21-2007, 07:17 PM Great Adam!!! Hope to see some new pics of it and on the road... Goodluck adam
AdamR 01-24-2007, 09:20 PM I decided to pull the grill out to repaint it, good thing because the head lights were ready to fall out. No screws in them and the harness wast hooked up. Weird. I also removed the wiring harness and pretty much anything that unbolts from the engine compartment. May as well repaint it now. The radiator support had been replaced and is blue other wise I would just buff it out. Painting the engine bay is were I quickly went down hill with the Barracuda. I wont get in to that mess again.
memike 01-24-2007, 09:38 PM She will shine up nicely under there
the grill looked good to ,let us see a before and after pic.
Injoy AdamR. :salute:
AdamR 01-25-2007, 11:18 AM The grill is in good shape, just faded like everything else is from the Cali sun beating on it for years.
AdamR 01-25-2007, 01:35 PM I did notice the car has a new pair of Monroe shocks on it. Thats good seeing I was going to buy the same ones for it.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000732.jpg
Also did some masking. Luckily the paint is in pretty good shape so its pretty much a scuff and shoot deal. Hope the New paint matched the old though.

THEWHITEZOMBIE 01-25-2007, 02:41 PM looks good man love the sticker mines in the same place,i just got a set of stock rums an cop car dog dishes im gonna put on for a little bit of a sleeper look!
khughesprime 01-25-2007, 02:47 PM Sweet.
memike 01-25-2007, 05:30 PM Getting thing's dun!!!! Wow AdamR looking good
I sure miss A project to work on.
I guess It's that time of year
where You want to do something
But what!!!!
Me house work :wack:
AdamR 01-25-2007, 08:26 PM More pictures. Stopped and bought some primer on the way to work. Mixed it up and primed it after I got home. Its nice not to have to deal with rust. Just scuff and shoot. I probably could have painted over the old paint without primer but better safe then sorry.

19duster74 01-25-2007, 08:42 PM Coming along nicely. Personally I like it better than the Cuda. Looks good.
My '69 Valiant has that extra panel up under the rear quarter panel connecting to the floor. I have a plug, just like yours, in there too. Is this not normal or something? I'm not that familiar with 3rd generation A-bodies, so I don't know.
http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=15895
EvilScamp 01-26-2007, 03:29 PM Lookin good Adam!
Not having to deal with rust problems is just a dream for me and my projects!
416 scamp 01-26-2007, 06:57 PM Looking good Adam. Coming right along.
memike 01-26-2007, 07:11 PM That darlings coming along great :blob:
You have been getting after it,
And she sure is looking great.
What is your excitement level? Mine would be though the roof!!

65S, are you referring to this ?
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000518.jpg
It has to do with the California Emissions. There are vents in it.
AdamR 01-26-2007, 07:22 PM That darlings coming along great :blob:

I'll be really excited when I drop the 340 in it.
No, I was talking about this.....
AdamR 01-27-2007, 05:31 AM The plug is just a drain in case water gets in there. They are usually rotted away to nothing.
Okay, I get it. So when you said "this panel usually isn't there" you just meant it's usually rusted away. I thought you meant it's something strange. I'm not that familiar with body panels, just learning really. Guess I'm lucky this panels exists on my Valiant (although it's got some heavy surface rust).
AdamR 01-28-2007, 08:14 PM Did some playing around in the garage today. Polished and masked off the grill and got a bunch of small parts ready for paint.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000741.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000744.jpg
Replaced the ugly green kick panels with a black pair and pulled the old gas tank out which is amazingly clean inside. To bad it looks like some one dropped a boulder on it from 30ft.
I also order the Flaming river steering column adapter, Mopar mini starter and the Trans-Dapt mount kit. Has anyone tried these yet or am I the first. At $60 for the set its a lot cheaper then the Schumacher mounts.
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=TRD%2D4695&N=700+115&autoview=sku
Next order is the TTI headers coated inside and out and new gas tank and a 3/8" sending unit.
70Duster440 01-28-2007, 08:35 PM Looks nice, man. Always moving forward a step at a time - that's the name of the game. Your turn signal bezels sure look good. How did you get them to clean up so nicely?
AdamR 01-28-2007, 08:37 PM I used some rubbing compound. I was amazed how clean they came out.
I also did some measuring for rims/tires. There is 12" from the wheel lip to the wheel well. with 4.5" of that from the face of the drum to the wheel lip and 7.5 from the face of the drum to the wheel well. So an 8" rim with 5" backspacing will center the tire in the wheel well. Theres just enough room for a 10" wide tire but thats section width not tread width. I think a 255-60-15 is as big as I would go.
70Duster440 01-29-2007, 06:52 PM I had never looked at the bezels that close until I removed them and found them to be plastic. Had assumed they were metal. So the rubbing compound didn't harm the plating at all?
AdamR 01-29-2007, 07:05 PM No it didn't. I rubbed it on with a damp sponge. After it took the heavy stuff off I used a less coarse polish.
HemiPar 01-29-2007, 08:26 PM Looking great Adam. I can't wait till I can get started on mine this spring.

I just have to polish the lower chrome strip and the grill is finished. I even remembered to change the parking light bulbs while they were out.
Johnny Dart 01-29-2007, 08:56 PM Looks good Adam.
Did you ever find out the details of the vented gas tank and extra tube?
I have the same thing(Cal car)and would like to do away with the extra tube and rubber hoses and get a tank with the single fill tube.I dont see why it cant be done.
71 Dart 01-29-2007, 09:22 PM That same "extra" tube is on the Dart (71) that I just got, so, is that a Cali. thing only? Strange since my Dart was assembled in Canada plant. Sounds like it then went to Cal. and I end up buying it out of Ga. The ole girl has been aroun huh? But Calif. and the south would explain why she is still so solid.
Johnny Dart 01-29-2007, 10:00 PM My car(Cal car)was built in Canada as well. You also need a spacial Cal vented gas cap for these cars.
AdamR 01-30-2007, 11:04 AM My car is LA built. I was told early 71s had it later car had 1 vent line. Mine was built in April.
I pulled the tube out, all 4 lines were dry rotted, cracked or broken so I'll replace them with some fresh ones. To bad I forgot to mark which lines went were. Hope I get them back on right.
rumblefish360 01-30-2007, 06:08 PM Let us know about those trans dapt mounts. I think you still need the actual motor monts to tie the engine to the adapters.
There also not for a /6 to V8 swap.
Coyote Jack 01-31-2007, 10:26 AM I used some rubbing compound.
I put 8 inch wheels with 4 inch back spacing on the Demon Adam. I also put 255-60-15's on. With the back spacing, the tires are just inside the lip and lots of room over to the springs.
Jack

Rob, according to summit they come with mounts.
"Motor Mounts, Swap Mount, Steel/Rubber, Black/Black, Dodge/Plymouth, Barracuda/Dart/Scamp, V8 to Slant 6, Kit"
I found a guy on Moparts that used them and said they work fine.
AdamR 01-31-2007, 11:02 AM I put 8 inch wheels with 4 inch back spacing on the Demon Adam. I also put 255-60-15's on. With the back spacing, the tires are just inside the lip and lots of room over to the springs.
Jack
The Demon has a more open wheel well and tons more room then the Dart/Scamp does. I'll need to offset my springs and run 5" of backspacing to get that much tire in it.
AdamR 02-01-2007, 08:23 AM Got my order from Summit yesterday ! Motor mounts, mini starter and the steering adapter. I also just ordered my TTI headers ($700, ouch !) new gas tank and 3/8" sending unit. This thing will be running this spring !
I need to order the fuel, trans and brakes next. Fine lines has the best price.
AdamR 02-01-2007, 10:01 PM Got some little stuff painted. Gas tank straps, blower motor parts, horns and my overflow can.

memike 02-01-2007, 10:18 PM I am keeping an eye on you projected. You are are doing everything perfect.
keep it up, and thank's AdamR
FASTBACK340 02-02-2007, 07:08 AM Your making me anxious to start my assembly photo-log. Your car is coming along nicely Adam! Between you, me, and all the other winter projects there should be a whole fleet of A Bodies loose on the streets this summer.
AdamR 02-02-2007, 07:36 AM Thanks guys, It feels good to get stuff done even if its small stuff. Heck Im happy to be able to walk out in to the garage and look at the car for once.
I found out a friend just picked up 2 Dart 4 door cars for parts. I'm going to see how the front sheet metal is and maybe build a 70 Dart Swinger 340. So I may have some real clean Duster sheet metal for sale soon.
Johnny Dart 02-02-2007, 09:13 AM Hey Adam,
I guess I missed it somewhere, but when did you change your mind to keep this car?Werent you going to get a mustang or something.I feel alot better now that your building this bad boy.
Also how much did the FR steering adapter run?
AdamR 02-02-2007, 09:18 AM Johnny, as soon as the car was in my new garage and I realized I could actually get things done I lost the desire to buy something else.
The Flaming River adapter is around $120 but it has a U-joint that replaces the factory coupling unlike the other adapters out there. Its also made out of stainless.
416 scamp 02-02-2007, 03:16 PM Looking good Adam. Cant wait to see it together. I know what you mean about the TTI's . Expensive but well worth the money IMO... Keep the pics coming.. :toothy7:
EvilScamp 02-02-2007, 03:41 PM So I may have some real clean Duster sheet metal for sale soon.
Let me know if you do Adam i'm still in need of a fender.
AdamR 02-02-2007, 05:15 PM Will do Kev.
AdamR 02-05-2007, 11:37 AM I started spraying the engine compartment this morning. The color is way off. To light. Maybe if I had used a darker gray or black primer it would look right. Actually I like the color better it just doesnt match at all. Hopefully after a few more coats it will be better.
My wife is going to kill me when she comes home to a house stinking of single stage. :angel9:

Looking good !!!!
AdamR 02-05-2007, 12:38 PM The trim was stick on. m still trying to get the glue off.

Nice. I can't tell for sure from the picture but it's looking a little translucent (and quite green compared to the rootbeer exterior). A full wet coat might help - and very important with that metallic.
AdamR 02-05-2007, 01:46 PM Yeah thats a very thin coat. Its very yellow looking in person.

Seeing the Tawney Gold isnt even a close match to the original ( Im not the only one thats had this problem) I may just jam the engine color in B3 blue which would be my first choice for a color on this thing. Then that means at some point I'll have to repaint the entire car.

jloshotz 02-06-2007, 10:21 PM I'm going to come and work with you Adam. My "A" body isn't coming along as fast...lol You must have heat in your garage which would help on my end too....Cause i know you aren't a winter person! and i have a buch of parts that need painting; i need that sub-zero rated paint. Looking good though; glad you shook off that blue oval nightmare you were having...

Thermal coating inside
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000788.jpg
My thoughts on these. Thy're a work of art. Anyone that thinks a cheap set of headers are just as good hasnt held these in there hands. This is the second set of TTIs Ive owned. The first set were 1-7/8" 440 E body headers. These are even nicer.
I paid the extra for ceramic coating and thermal coating inside. Im glad I did even though it means I have to wait on purchasing other parts.
The flanges are nice and think so warping shouldn't be a problem.
Theres a nice open spot on the drivers side header for the starter. They say you can get the mini starter in and out with the header bolted up.
Theres room to run the size smaller oil filter with out the right angle adapter.
And the best part is they don't hang really low.
They are a bit on the heavy side compared to my Hooker Super Comps. That may mean more to a racer then a street car.
Also the Hooker Super Comps have a longer collector length which helps build torque.
Over all I'm very happy with them. :headbang:
daves66valiant 02-09-2007, 08:14 PM Mine will be worth every penny spent as soon as I get them mounted in the little a-body. They are great pieces for sure. Quality #1. Congrats on a fine purchase.
duster340 02-13-2007, 04:13 PM had almost forgoten how nice TTI headers look :) its true that you can take take out a ministarter with those headers still in place but it takes some patience, when i put my ministarter in there i had to get it in to that tight space backwards and upside down then turn it around while its "inside" the headers only way i could get it in there.. and it took some time figuring it out lying on a dirty, cold garagefloor with a bad hangover ;)
AdamR 02-19-2007, 08:48 PM Sold a few more parts so I put in another order with Summit Racing. Got my Carter fuel pump, dip stick tube, MSD plug wires and some gaskets on the way.
I also think I've talked myself in to painting the car black with a blck top and flat black hood with a Demon snorkel scoop.
memike 02-19-2007, 09:15 PM TTi's great move AdamR Your car will look great what ever color,
Black with the flat black sound's very good.
Congratulations on the Header's :blob:
416 scamp 02-20-2007, 05:27 PM I think the black will look real good Adam
unreformed66 02-20-2007, 08:42 PM Hey Adam, if you're still deciding on a color for your Scamp, I vote for RED...but then again maybe I'm biased.. keep up the good work, you're getting a ton of work done in a hurry.
AdamR 02-20-2007, 09:02 PM Yeah, still debating. I most likely will be till I buy the paint.
AdamR 02-21-2007, 08:22 PM More goodies came today, I think I now have %98 of everything I need for the motor. all that is left is to find a Performer RPM or LD340 to replace my Victor JR.
70Duster440 02-22-2007, 12:22 AM Lookin good.... Ca-ching, ca-ching!
AdamR 02-22-2007, 01:34 PM Lookin good.... Ca-ching, ca-ching!
Yeah the bank card is smoking. Actually I have been selling everything Im not using to keep the needed parts coming in.
Eric_S68 02-22-2007, 08:23 PM Hiya Adam , My .02 .....Don't paint it black. I don't know how your body is or what your eventual use is... But, my reason is you have to have the body (prep work and loads of sanding/filler) 100% perfect, if you want the car to look like a million bucks or anything close. That equates to major amounts of $ in Sand paper filler and time I suggest to you and anybody else paint thier car to stick with light colors. It leaves you a, maybe in my opinion, better looking overall car and if you happened to miss something it wont look like a warped mirror. It's looking good so far Keep it up :angel9:

Yeah, I know black is a real pain in the a$$. I also know I will continue to change my mind on the color till its painted. :angel9:
The easiest thing for me to do is just have this color matched so I can do the engine bay now and not worry about the rest of the car for a while.
Coyote Jack 02-23-2007, 04:23 PM Hey Adam,
Have you thought of the new Bronze color Dodge has. I think it would look real good on your Scamp with a black tail stripe. I would also loose the vinyl top in that case.
Jack
AdamR 02-25-2007, 09:09 PM Jack, I love that color. Thats the color I wanted the Barracuda. Its not cheap though. Something like $500 a gallon for the base. It will probably stay the color it is so I don't need to worry about paint the rest for now.
I have a huge pile of stuff for the car , Now it just needs to warm up so I can get going.
AdamR 03-14-2007, 07:42 PM Well its finally above freezing, 65* here today so I made my way into the garage and installed my new carpet.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000826.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000827.jpg
This one came from Trim Parts not from ACC like Year one sells. I was told this is a much better carpet,
and doesnt fade as much.
I still need to recover the seats. front seat is torn pretty bad and the rear seat was so dry and faded it ripped when I took it out. I also need a set of front door panel and arm rest pads.
70Duster440 03-14-2007, 07:52 PM NIce! Seems like new carpet goes a long ways toward freshening up an interior. How was TP's price comparted to ACC?
AdamR 03-14-2007, 08:04 PM The Carpet kit was $140 I think.
Did you have to do any trimming on the carpet? We got the black year one 2 peice carpet kit and Im going to have to trim a shitload off the sides of the front peice. Not to mention cutting holes in it for the console brackets that she decided she wanted AFTER we ordered everything.
AdamR 03-15-2007, 08:43 AM Yes, You have to trim the sides. Plus make the holes for seat belts, seat bolts, high beam switch and if you have a console the holes for that. Just cut a little at a time.
Mopower71 03-15-2007, 08:31 PM I also think I've talked myself in to painting the car black with a blck top and flat black hood with a Demon snorkel scoop.
You going to run A/c in the Scamp?
That black paint gets HoT in the summer.
I had a 72' Charger that was black. It sucked getting stuck in the staging lanes waiting to go. Felt like an oven in the car.
Just my 2 cents
:violent2:
AdamR 03-15-2007, 08:42 PM Na, A/Cs to heavy. and Im sure it will stay the original color. To much work to change it.
AdamR 04-06-2007, 08:15 PM Heres a few pictures. Im just about done with the 340. Just waiting on the carb and a few small items I still would love to get a 70-71 340 air cleaner but its kinda spendy so I'll use a 68-69 air cleaner for now.

I'm really tempted to grind the Edelbrock script of the intake while I have the die grinder out and I should have bought a stock dip stock tube instead of the chrome one.
EvilScamp 04-08-2007, 04:39 PM Those TTI's are freakin sweet!:supz:
How many qtrs. is your pan?

daves66valiant 04-08-2007, 05:45 PM that's cool you don't have to use the 90* oil filter. the tti's look good. grinding the script off? you would somehow have to blast the aluminum to make it look like it was cast that way instead of seeing grinding marks under the paint. why go through the trouble, lots of work unless you are being judged for originallity? You must be bored like i've been. lol

it will also keep the sleeper look
daves66valiant 04-08-2007, 08:04 PM it will also keep the sleeper look
the shinny headers detract from the full-on sleeper look somewhat but if adam can find a 340 air cleaner it will make it harder to see the script too. either was lookin' good
AdamR 04-22-2007, 04:37 PM Those TTI's are freakin sweet!:supz:

Kev. I want to say its an 8qrt pan. Its a ilodon that has had the corner cut and welded so you dont have to notch the K Frame.
AdamR 04-22-2007, 04:39 PM the shinny headers detract from the full-on sleeper look somewhat
I couldnt talk my self in to paying $400 for a set of 340 exhaust manifolds to choke the motor down. The cam has way to much duration and overlap for them.
AdamR 04-22-2007, 04:45 PM Not getting to much done lately. I really need to get the engine bay painted to make more progress, Still need to finish the intake mods and have it milled a bit and Im still waiting for my carb to come. from DemonSizzler.
Last week I hung some new lights in the shop so I can work at night with more then a candle LOL. Todays nice weather I decided to roll the car out and do some wet sanding and buffing.
I sanded with 2000 grit, compunded with 3M Perfect -It and glazed it with Ardex Seal-B Looke reall smooth now.

memike 04-23-2007, 04:38 PM Nothing better then grandma blanket on the front seat!! I stile have one my grandma made I keep in the truck and used it in my 73 Challenger 9 or 10 years ago.
She sure did slick up didn't she .
Looking good AdamR and glad you did not burn throw the paint.
AdamR 04-23-2007, 04:45 PM glad you did not burn throw the paint.
Well, I got a few spots but not bad. That 30 year old single stage buffs fast. Good thing I use a wool pad and not a foam.

THEWHITEZOMBIE 04-23-2007, 06:16 PM motor looks cherry adam!
1966 dart wagon 04-23-2007, 10:13 PM very very good looking, those tti headers look bad ass on there, i like how u went with the blue instead of hemi orange to make it a lil bit more sleeper  very nice :toothy7:
flyboy01 04-25-2007, 06:02 PM you know what would be cool? Paint the wheels body color and get a 6 pack scoop on it!
AdamR 04-25-2007, 06:12 PM Its going to get a set of body colored cop car rims. No scoop though. It kills the sleeper look.
416 scamp 04-25-2007, 06:53 PM I think it will look sharp with the body colored rims Adam. Keep the pics coming.... :headbang:
djwhog 04-25-2007, 07:28 PM Kida like the sleeper look Adam. I have a 99 HD sporty it was a 883, now is a 1220 cc with andrews cams, S1 Lighting Buell heads, trick ignition, custom tuned carb and exhaust. Yet it still says 883 on the tank. I hear all the time it is a Gorls bike as it runs 10.65s in the 1/4 at 115mph.
I havea Road King too but that is another topic.
I like you car a lot and all you have done!
AdamR 04-30-2007, 08:39 PM Got the steering column back in. If I had a set of front door panels the interior would look great.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000975.jpg
I still need to pick up a oil pressure gauge and water temp gauge. Im still debating if I want to use my monster tach. I think it will look out of place in there.
I also got the steering box and Flaming River power to manual adapter in. Nice piece.

Mopower71 05-01-2007, 07:43 PM Looking good Adam.
Can't wait to see it running.
AdamR 05-06-2007, 06:21 PM My Thermoquad has arrived !!! Looks great. Cant wait to see how it runs.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM001001.jpg
Also made a slight modification to my air cleaner.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000994.jpg
cleaned and painted the radiator and fan shroud.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000996.jpg
and the tranny is ready to go.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000995.jpg
Guitar Jones 05-06-2007, 07:39 PM I love those Thermoquads. They have better idle and transition circuits than the Holley's. Plus they flow a bunch.
AdamR 05-06-2007, 07:43 PM This one flows around 910CFM. When the motor was dynod we tried a few Holleys on a Victor intake. A 830CFM and a 950CFM. The 950 actually made the same hp but more torque then my 830. Hopefully my modified LD340 and this Thermoquad are almost as good.
Guitar Jones 05-06-2007, 07:51 PM It probably will be at least close. The intake may hold you back some on the top end though. The real area where the Thermoquad shines is in driveability, if they are tuned properly.
AdamR 05-06-2007, 07:53 PM I did my best to open the intake up. port matched, plenum cut down using the old DC mods. Should flow pretty good.
Guitar Jones 05-06-2007, 08:10 PM Yes you did. I wouldn't worry about it too much. To keep the sleeper look concessions have to be made. It's just part and parcel to the game. :)
memike 05-06-2007, 08:18 PM I like the idea of a mopar carb on a mopar. :headbang:
Looking good AdamR , Thanks for a great thread.
Now lets get her in and fire it up. :blob:
Well ok you can take a short break :clock:
Guitar Jones 05-06-2007, 08:30 PM BTW there are 1000 cfm Thermoquads out there. They were strictly race carbs. Wish I could find a few myself.
AdamR 05-06-2007, 08:33 PM I bid on one on ebay. It was barnd new in the plastic still.
1000cfm comp series. I bid $350 and it sold for over $400.
This carb was built for my car I paid $350 for it including the core charge.
Guitar Jones 05-06-2007, 08:46 PM $400 isn't bad for that. I've been turned off by ebay lately though. Unless I'm looking for something like that though. Either way, I can't really use it right now. All my money has been going to the Scamp.
AdamR 05-06-2007, 08:51 PM Ebay usually pisses me off too. I never seem to win anything simply because theres to many people with more money then me.
Guitar Jones 05-06-2007, 09:24 PM We bought a lot of stuff for the house like sinks, vanities, faucets and such. The problem is it isn't really a store where if the stuff is defective or not want you need you can't really just return it. Since the prices aren't that much different than buying it at a store it's not that good of deal, especially if there is a problem.
So unless it's something that isn't made anymore than I'm not going there.
Wow, you've been busy! Does a thermoquad sit higher up, is that why you've made the holes in the air cleaner lid, because it's sitting down low and you want to increase air flow?
AdamR 05-07-2007, 05:32 AM Wow, you've been busy! Does a thermoquad sit higher up, is that why you've made the holes in the air cleaner lid, because it's sitting down low and you want to increase air flow?
No, The holes are there because otherwise there is only a gap around the bottom of the air cleaner for the air to enter. Theres no filter in the picture also.
AdamR 05-26-2007, 07:38 PM Ok, Heres the big update.
I finally got the guts to paint the engine bay myself. Its not perfect, theres runs, a few drips some dirt and a couple tight spots that didnt cover perfect but it looks tons better and with everything bolted down its hard to notice. Im very happy with it and learned enough that the next time I paint I know I'll have a better finish.
I think last time I ordered paint I was given Y8 which is much more gold then the correct Y9. Not sure if I asked for the wrong code or not. I spent some time sanding down the last attempt then wiped it down with wax and grease remover. I covered the entire car with a sheet of 3M paintable pastic and masked off the engine bay.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000060.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000061.jpg
I then shot 2 coats of gray epoxy primer. My primer gun must have some old paint clogged in it because it sprayed inconsistent and I ended up with some rough textured areas. After the primer dried I sanded it down with 320grit for the rough spots then scuffed the rest with a green scotch brite pad.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000063.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000064.jpg
The next day I wiped it all down again and shot 3 medium wet coats od color.
I used single stage Urethane that I bought from http://www.tcpglobal.com/autocolorlibrary/ From what I have been told they are slapping there own label on PPG products.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000075.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000074.jpg
Today I spent the day installing the motor and trans. The TTI headers went in nice and easy. Plenty of room to install the mini starter with the headers bolted up.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000087.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000088.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000089.jpg
I still have a lot of small things to bolt up and fix but this was a huge step in getting this car going.
I gave a few more painting projects planned as well. Im going to do the hood, and the filler panel that goes between the grill and bumper and maybe the trunk floor as well.
daves66valiant 05-26-2007, 08:00 PM It pays to be brave. Looking good Adam. The sleeper look is coming alive. I dig it.
Longgone 05-26-2007, 08:02 PM Looking good Adam, it`s all down hill from here. How did you get that last picture, were you having an out of body experience?
Longgone 05-26-2007, 08:12 PM Adam if you want those headers to continue to look good after you`ve fired the engine, then first clean them really good with soapy water and remove all of the grease. I cleaned mine well but continued doing things to the engine and inadvertently touched them with my greasy hands. You can now see everywhere I touched them they turned blue.
AdamR 05-26-2007, 08:25 PM Thanks for the advice. I'll remember that.
Johnny Dart 05-27-2007, 12:56 AM Looking killer Adam !!!
Nice work !!!!
1966 dart wagon 05-27-2007, 01:50 AM very nice on the engine bay, i can say it is quite the chore painting it all and such. looks good :headbang:
bnichols 06-10-2007, 07:07 PM adam looks good i bought that car in carlisle last year had john debella haul it back and sold it to him, it is a pretty clean car its nice to have one that clean to start!! he still has your cuda last i knew. brett
AdamR 06-10-2007, 07:11 PM Last I knew John had taken a deposit on the Barracuda.
Do you know any history on the Scamp ? This thing still amazes with how clean it is.
bnichols 06-10-2007, 07:26 PM not much guy i bought it from is terry fong he is from cali comes to carlisle every year with one car and a bunch of sheet metal not sure how he aquired the car he didn't say.
AdamR 06-10-2007, 07:36 PM Thanks, I'll try and track him down and see if he knows anything about it. Sounds like hes just a flipper though.
bnichols 06-10-2007, 07:42 PM exactly he is a wheeler dealer, if you are goig to carlisle this year he should be there.
416 scamp 06-10-2007, 08:50 PM Looks really good Adam!!! Nice work!
AdamR 06-23-2007, 03:47 PM It looks like I can fire this pig up next weekend. I just have a few loose ends to tie up. Waiting for my 3/8" fuel line from Fine lines. Still need a new dip stick tube for the transmission, and a small loan to buy the needed Cam2.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/IM000249.jpg
I also checked out all the electrical today. Everything works, lights, horn gauges and even the annoying key buzzer.
Next I'll tackle the front suspension. Its getting RMS control arms and F body spindles and the rear I would like to get a complete Cal-Trac set up.
The interior is just about done other then the seat covers and front door panels.
The small odds and ends are killing me. Little stuff really adds up fast and Ive got some great deals from members here.
Im headding out to the shop tonite (waiting for this kid to bring a trailer so he can buy my 73 today) and I will have the tube and the door pannels cleanned up and have some pics up Monday nite at the latest for ya. It's looking good, I just need the motivation to get my girlfriends 72 done now.
memike 06-23-2007, 08:37 PM Just about there AdamR,
This has been a great ride to watch you build.:toothy8:
Enjoy the loose end, and hope all go's smooth.:drinkers:
racyroy1 06-24-2007, 08:37 PM beautiful adam, I hope my will turn out half as well. How long have you been at redoing the scamp?
AdamR 06-24-2007, 08:42 PM I got the car last Oct so not even a year yet.
memike 06-24-2007, 08:42 PM He has been on it a many moon's.
Butt are we ever Dun.
AdamR 06-24-2007, 08:55 PM Nope, never will be done. I all ready have plans for another motor.
Guitar Jones 06-24-2007, 09:11 PM They are never done but just once I'd like to be able to formulate a cohesive and logical step by step plan for performance improvements. I've never been disciplined enough to do that yet though. I'm the first to throw in a new converter, rear gears and a camshaft and be flat footing it on the track the very next test and tune day. lol
I do like your car though, you are gonna stick with steel wheels and poverty caps right?
memike 06-24-2007, 09:17 PM You are gonna stick with steel wheels and poverty caps right .
Poverty caps !!! lol Thats a new one on me. Poverty caps:toothy10:
AdamR 06-24-2007, 09:18 PM I think so. I think its going to get some black cop car rims and some 275-50-15 drag radials out back.
Guitar Jones 06-24-2007, 09:23 PM That would look bitchin'. I'd use a flat hood too, no scoop. They attract too much attention.
I'm actually going to try and run a flat hood on my Scamp. I know without the spacer it will fit and if it's too fast that will slow it down about a 0.15.
racyroy1 06-25-2007, 12:07 PM yea i know never done, but done to a point where it is satisfyingly drivable is what i meant.
memike 06-25-2007, 02:42 PM yea i know never done, but done to a point where it is satisfyingly drivable is what i meant.
I understand what you mean it is nice to get them that far.8)
I was just throwing poop at adamR.:bootysha:
AdamR 06-25-2007, 03:00 PM That would look bitchin'. I'd use a flat hood too, no scoop. They attract too much attention.
I'm actually going to try and run a flat hood on my Scamp. I know without the spacer it will fit and if it's too fast that will slow it down about a 0.15.
Its not getting a scoop. Its also still auto on the column (reverse patern valve body should be fun) and a bench seat.
AdamR 07-08-2007, 04:56 PM Well the motor is back apart to so I can find the reason for water leaking past the gaskets. It may very well stay apart for a while. I want a street car and the 11:1 compression and huge solid cam are going to suck. I would like to swap to a set of Edelbrock RPM 340 head wich will drop compression down to 10.35:1 plus the aluminum should help.
I also want to swap to a more street friendly cam. I was looking at the Lunati Voodoo 274. I 'll probably keep my LD340 and Thermoquad.
Im also going to run a smaller 2.5" exhaust and loose the manual valve body.
So know I have doubled the length of this build up and will be broke for the next 3 years. I hate this hobby. I just want to drive the thing all ready.
redfastback 07-08-2007, 05:05 PM yeah since you get a point of compression to play with on aluminum heads, that would be the way to go. what cam is in there again? a comp xtreme energy or lunati are good choices. hope the leaks quit.
AdamR 07-08-2007, 05:33 PM The leak has to do with the intake not fitting right. The heads have been milled down to 60ccs to bring compression to 11:1 with stock 10.5:1 high comp 340 type pistons. When I bought the motor it had a Eddy Victor on it that I sold and replaced with ny LD340. Thats when I found out how much the heads and block have been milled. No it doesnt fit well and I dont want to cut this poor LD340 up if I plan on switching head later anyways.
The cam right now is a Crower solid 260/265 @.050" .580" on a 108LSA. The cam made the torque curve peak at 5400rpms. A little high for the street.
AdamR 07-10-2007, 06:04 PM Got a nice set of door panel from 360Scamp, Thanks again ! Interior is done with the exception of a pair of front arm rests and the nut and clip that hold the drivers mirror remote in place !

memike 07-10-2007, 07:26 PM Good snag AdamR. they look perfect from here.
I bet you was glad to receive them!! and get them in.
:thumbup: No problem man, Im just glad to see them go to use I was about 2 weeks from junking them and then I remembered you needed some. I will see if I can't find the arm rests this weekend if I go out to the shop.
Longgone 07-10-2007, 07:59 PM That blanket is a gas! A bag of groceries would look appropriate sitting on the seat. Does your car have the locking steering column?
AdamR 07-11-2007, 06:19 AM Yes the blanket is granny fresh ! The column does lock.
AdamR 07-12-2007, 05:03 PM Got my 3/8" pre bent fuel line from Firm Feel today. Kinda a PITA to install but better then bending it my self.
Also the reason for the water leaking from my intake, Seems I forgot to use some sealer around the water passages. Oops. Not going to put it back together yet though. This motor belongs in a dedicated race car so Im going to try and find it a new home and find something milder.
Scored the needed rallye from MtNemo so now I have the front set. The rear will get some 15X7s from summit racing and Ill wrap them up with some new Radial T/As.
Im also going to freshen up the brakes and lines and then just drive the thing as much as possible.
Longgone 07-12-2007, 06:13 PM I`d disable that locking column if you haven`t already Adam. They`re not good in a performance car. LOVE THE BLANKET!
AdamR 07-12-2007, 06:50 PM The blanket I have had for years. It was covering my motor before I even bought the car. I then relised it matched the car well and hid the huge rip in the seat.
Have you had a column lock on you before ?
It also looks like my 340 is going to a new home in PA and is being replaced by a fresh 360 with a Hyd roller cam and Magnum R/T heads.

You should keep the blanket even if you get the seat fixed.
I haven`t had a column lock on me before but have heard horror stories!
A 360 should make a nice street motor with plenty of get up and the 340 can go do what it was built for. Didn`t you have that engine (the 340) installed in the car already? That sucks having to pull it again!
AdamR 07-13-2007, 06:09 AM Yes, I just dropped the motor in but had to take it a part to fix a coolant leak. Not to bad to pull it with the TTIs.
AdamR 07-14-2007, 09:18 PM Its ALIVE!!!! and its evil sounding. I need to pull the carb off and send it back to DemonSizzler for some more tweeking. My fault not his. I also broke the tab off of one valve cover that holds spark plug wires on it. Now I have a hole in one so I'll need to tack that back on.
I was also think of picking up some centerline auto drags and having them power coated black. They would look like steel wheels and be light.
AdamR 07-22-2007, 05:48 PM Got some more done today. Front seat belts are in. Ive had them for ever just never got around to installing them. I used my soldering iron to melt the holes in the carpet for the bolts. It worked raelly well.
picked up a driveshaft for the 7.25 for now. Put in some fresh u Joints and installed that but I need to find a second strap and a few bolts. Also drained the fluid from the 7.25 which turned out to be mostly water because of the missing filler cap. Filled it with fresh gear oil amd of coarse spilled some on the floor. Smells great.
Trans linkage is all hooked up. Its tight up there with the headers and cooler lines but I managed to squeeze my hands in there. Should be interesting trying to shift a reverse patern valve body on the column.
Tried to hook the pitman arm up to the center link but once the nut got some what tight the otman arms spins. Now I cant get the nut tight or off. I'll mess with that later.
I also hung the exhaust using a 3" kit that I had on the Barracuda. Amazingly enough it fit. Not great but its on there and I dont need to buy another. It sound really good with the 3" Delt flow 2 chambers and 3" tail pipes.
Now all that is left before I can drive it is redo the brakes ( 9" drums for now) a pair of rear tires, Havent decided what kind or size yet Pick up a oil pressure and water temp gauge and send the carb back to Demon Sizzler for a little more tweeking.
Its going to be a real pig with the 2.xx gears that are in it but at least it looks like it will be driveable in a month or so. Thats under a year to put the car together. Not bad.
valiant360 07-22-2007, 07:33 PM So did you drop the 340 or the 360 in there , i'm confused.
AdamR 07-22-2007, 07:43 PM I kept the 340 in it. Never heard back from the guy that wanted to trade.
Guitar Jones 07-22-2007, 08:47 PM Until you hammer it the first time and that 7.25 says goodbye.
AdamR 07-22-2007, 08:53 PM LOL, I know. I have to be nice to it till I get a 8-3/4 with some gears. Probably 4.30s
memike 07-22-2007, 08:56 PM Sounds like a big day AdamR!! I sure would like to here that motor.
Hope the pitman arm loosens up or tighten's up for you, it seem like I have had that happen to me before,
Guitar Jones 07-22-2007, 09:08 PM As for the pitman arm you'll need to get the stud pushed into the hole. The taper will hold it and if you hit it with an impact then it should tighten up.
AdamR 07-22-2007, 09:19 PM Cant get anything other then a wrench in there.
Guitar Jones 07-22-2007, 10:02 PM You'll need to take the pitman arm off the box. Maybe the idler arm too and get the whole drag link out. Then you can work on it.
scamperly 03-13-2008, 12:43 PM Hi there, I just joined here, and I thought I was the only one with a low mileage low rust Scamp, but apparently not! hahaha I have a 1972 scamp, which I purchased back in 2004 with about 19,000 miles on it. Here's a few pictures from when I bought it:

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y198/s-camp/moparshow.jpg
and now, I've strapped on some Rallye Wheels (horrible to find in small bolt pattern) and I have a 4bbl+intake I'm putting on the /6, and I plan on putting a cam/rad/headers/exhaust when I do the carb and intake.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y198/s-camp/September001.jpg
I will put up pictures soon of the interior, odometer, and houndstooth interior. Which, I might add, is absolutely mint!
AdamR 03-13-2008, 02:15 PM Nice find ! what color is that GY8 ?
nasty69 04-01-2008, 12:59 PM Its also got this strange panel that connects the trunk floor to the bottom of the quarter that usually isnt there.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/adamr78/Scamp/DSCF0017__8_.jpg
my car has the same plug on the LR lower qrt panel.. wats it for?
GTXperience 04-01-2008, 01:08 PM my car has the same plug on the LR lower qrt panel.. wats it for?
Water/Debris Drainage.
AdamR 05-15-2008, 08:38 PM my car has the same plug on the LR lower qrt panel.. wats it for?
That was a bad joke, Being from the east coast that panel is usually rusted off the car.

71ChallengerSE 08-21-2010, 12:01 AM Any more on this one?
AdamR 09-07-2010, 10:04 AM No, This car is long gone. Out of all my cars this is the one I regret selling most.
needsaresto 09-07-2010, 10:38 AM Danf Adam thats one cleam Mopar! Lol those trunk floor extensions are pretty rare, you could probably auction them off and retire...
