LP Commandos or W273dart360 12-24-2006, 08:33 PM Has anyone ran the LP commandos on a stroker how do they compare to the W2`s lenweiler 12-25-2006, 07:30 AM I'd pick the LP commando's. Much lighter. Good combustion chamber. Should be ported though. Good numbers coming out of these heads. My .02. rumblefish360 12-25-2006, 08:06 AM I also think there going to be easier due to there abilty to use stock intakes and exhaust units. No oval intakes and weird adapters to contend with for headers. There my next big ticket item. dartman366 12-25-2006, 11:13 AM I have a full ported set of LP commando's that were done by Ryan Johnson at Shadydell Speed Shop, that is going on my 408 stroker, these thing's are beautiful and flow better than a ported set of w2's,, but require the w2/w5 header flange because of having the port's blown out to the w2 configuration and also they require the w2/w5 rocker gear, I can probably round up some pic's if anybody is interested. :) 73dart360 12-25-2006, 12:01 PM dartman id like to see some pics- i recently bought a set of w-2 race heads on Ebay new in the box race experimenal heads 59 degree 70 cc $400.00 i sent them to indy had them CNC`d bought the indy single plane manifold port matched and all of the rest of the race stuff to finish the heads but then i kept seeing people writing about the LP commando`s well now i have $5000.00 in my heads i think i have to keep them LOL maybe i`ll build LP commandos for my 360 im going to drop in my 65 dart GT convertible. dartman366 12-25-2006, 02:56 PM Sorry, I have been trying for the last half hour to get an attachment to take but it keep's coming up that the file is too big dartman366 12-25-2006, 03:25 PM dscf1416001 73dart360 12-25-2006, 04:32 PM where can the LP commandos be purchased dartman366 12-25-2006, 05:16 PM I bought mine thru the local dealer, have a friend that work's there, and sent the casting's to Ryan after drooling on them for three day's. 73dart360 12-25-2006, 08:22 PM lol rumblefish360 12-27-2006, 09:55 PM These are dartman366 head pictures he sent me. Sorry if there was a delay. Say, is that a motor plate back there in the top picture? dartman366 12-28-2006, 07:59 AM yes that is a motor plate, :) I feel a little better about using that with the new 408, as opposed to just solid mount's pulling on the side of the block, beside's, It look's kinda sexy. :headbang: Guitar Jones 12-28-2006, 06:45 PM I like the chamber shape, reminds me of my small chamber W5's, as does the exhaust side. The only difference I can tell from pics is the intake port floor isn't raised like the W5 but there looks to be enough material there to do it. Nice looking heads, do you have flow numbers? dartman366 12-28-2006, 07:13 PM I like the chamber shape, reminds me of my small chamber W5's, as does the exhaust side. No need for a big split in duration. 73dart360 12-29-2006, 07:21 PM Rumblefish those Commando`s look sweet -i will have a set before too long after the w2`s are built- Thanks for the pictures Guitar Jones 12-30-2006, 06:23 PM yes as a matter of fact I do: lift int ex 200 147.7 122.9 300 207.5 192.4 400 254.1 233.4 450 274.5 241.3 500 291.4 243.0 550 302.4 243.0 600 311.9 243.0 650 311.9 243.0 700 311.9 243.0 :toothy7: Very, very close to my W5's. You have just a bit more max flow on the intake (mine came in at 305) but my exhaust peaks at 251. Still very similiar flow characteristics, the low and mid lift numbers couldn't have been closer. What size intake valve is that. Mine still have the 2.02 intakes. rumblefish360 12-30-2006, 07:07 PM Rumblefish those Commando`s look sweet -i will have a set before too long after the w2`s are built- Thanks for the pictures It was a pleasure to post them for dartman366. (There his heads.) Yea baby! Cool they are. dartman366 12-31-2006, 04:37 PM Very, very close to my W5's. Mine still have the 2.02 intakes.Ryan moved them on out to a 2.05 intake, took 2.08's and cut them down and reworked them to his liking,,the commando's are concidered a w5 replacement, I know Ryan did a lot of work on these head's and it show's, my machinist is an old head porter by trade and is very good at it, and he said that these were as nice a set of head's as he has seen as far machine work and finish. Guitar Jones 01-01-2007, 06:32 PM Yeah the guy that ported my heads said the 2.02 valve was holding it back. I'd like to go to a 2.08 when I have them freshened. Maybe when I do the stroker engine. moparlee 01-03-2007, 11:44 AM yes as a matter of fact I do: lift int ex 200 147.7 122.9 300 207.5 192.4 400 254.1 233.4 450 274.5 241.3 500 291.4 243.0 550 302.4 243.0 600 311.9 243.0 650 311.9 243.0 700 311.9 243.0 :toothy7: That's killer.
