64DartGTinAZ 12-31-2011, 04:31 PM Just curious to see if it's a fellow FABO'er who's doing the /6 turbo build.
If so, would love to talk to you about the plan and keep up with it as you build it.
I've got my 340 in with Dennis for some stroking and am going to be queueing up my /6 next.
stop the beast 04-25-2012, 03:36 PM Yes, that is my /6 he's got down there. It's been down there for months now. I can tell you all about it.
Glad I saw this post - I was searching the SW forum to try and find a shop/mechanic to swap the /6 into my engine. My garage isn't going to be ready for that this year.
805moparkid 04-25-2012, 03:37 PM its a bummer you guys are on the other side of town... could be fun!

You know anyone on your side of town that would want to do the install and freshen up the k-member while we're at it? I've got tons of parts piling up and not enough time.

I'll shoot you an IM once I know when my engine is going to be done.
It looks like Maurer is doing a great job on the /6. Even though it's been at his shop for months now the vast majority of that time has been him waiting for me to bring him rods and pistons. I'll post the build details when I get some time.
stop the beast 04-25-2012, 10:25 PM So here's the build:
engine:
stock iron block over .60
stock '71 iron head w/ 3-angle and 1.7"/1.44" valves and pockets cleaned up
comp 264 grind
offy intake w/ water jackets
arp head studs (should i get main studs before assembly?)
tom molner forged rods (essentially k1 7" rods)
wiseco pistons (if my math and machining is accurate i should land around 8:3:1 static w the piston a hair below the deck)
romac red balancer
holley 500 2bbl, planning to send this to the carb ship in CA for blowthrough setup (any other suggestions?)
going to run a gt32 w/ internal waste gate for now...
I'm going to have an old co-worker of mine build the manifold, ic, ic plumbing all custom! It should be insane, the guy is a metal genius.
drive train:
rebuilt 904 w/ a shift kit (Maurer as well, dude seems to know how to do it all)
8 3/4 rear end w/ 2.76 gears and a fresh re-build, clutch type (again Maurer)
For fuel management, obviously there isn't much to a blow through. I'm going to use a mallory fpr w/ the carb and a wide band. I've had a new stock tank modified for a vertical spiral sump w/ walbro 255 in tank. I'm going to run -6AN both ways.
And I'm still on the fence about ignition, I may see how far my orange box can take me w/ a stock electronic distributor before i investing in anything else. I really want to see what it can do with an old school KISS setup.
64DartGTinAZ 04-27-2012, 08:13 PM [QUOTE=stop the beast;1828011]So here's the build:
Sorry for not keeping up...was distracted from cars by some family business for a while.
Sounds like a cool build! Have your metal genius friend keep notes so he can make another set sometime!
My small block went on the backburner (I told Dennis to feel free as I'm not quite ready to start working on my wagon yet). It's going back on the front burner next week.
I talked to him about a slant build (for the coupe)...going to push that off until the fall. Going to do a naturally aspirated build first (Doc Dodge heads and Dutra Duals, long-rod build with the dual 1BBL offy intake). If/when that gets boring, I'll start looking toward either huffing it or turbo. But...first, the wagon (SB stroker, 3-on-the-tree to 4-on-the-floor conversion, (probably) Altrkation front end, 7 1/4->8 3/4 swap...mini-tub?).
Once it's rolling again, I'll look forward to a meet-up with you local guys!

i think mains are like rods... you need to have the mains line honed as they have more pressure against them, making a tighter fit...

That's a good point. Maybe I'll leave good enough alone with the stock bolts.
memike 04-28-2012, 01:10 AM :glasses7:I see a / race in this thread
madmax/6 05-12-2012, 11:50 PM I used Arp bolts on the mains not studs and didnt line bore it.over 350 passes in the 11s with no issues.8 passes in the mid 10s with a 90 shot.Guzzi Mark
