I read this post by Fastbackcuda in the Tech Archive. If anyone has Mopar Muscles August 2003 issue, they used a 360 LA-Short block and put Magnum head on it. They mentioned the lifter problem. You can use the hydraulic flat tappet lifter as long as you use longer push rods that MP sells
(pn P5007477). I'm faced with this situation. :) 8)

Whitey - Dave Hakim (from Mopar Perf.) informed me the they ran out of new Magnum head castings. They are dyno testing the 300 and 380 crate motors with the Magnum R/T heads that will replace the older heads. Should be a good increase in power. However a increase in price will probably follow.

The Edelbrock Magnum heads are out now also. About the same price as the iron R/T heads.

I was reading that article and it mentioned machining out for the pushrods,
I wander what they are doing for the crate engines? :?:

Ive never heard of having to achine for push rods. Whats the problem ? Head clearance due to the rocker ratio and larger diameter pushrods ?

according to the article, "...for std hydraulic lifters, the R/T heads offer minimal (if not zero) pushrod clearance. It is strongly recommended that you elongate the push rod holes inthe casting TOWARDS the intake face almost to the valve cover rail all the way through the casting."

I'd like to find out for sure before I start working on this engine.  :help:

in my mopar mag it said to use amc lifters and run a long pushrod but it didn't say anything about maching for a pushrod...

I beleive that was the article from mopar muscle, this was the article from the tech archive, under R/T head users.

I can vouch for that. I put them on our crate motor last year and there were clearance issues. It looked to me like the mold the heads were cast fom was poor. lots of clearance on some sides, and not much on others.
