GotDart 03-09-2005, 07:52 PM Looks really good. How about a few details on that 360? So was the video before or after the header install?
TC67CUDA 03-09-2005, 09:33 PM Looks really good. How about a few details on that 360? So was the video before or after the header install?
Yes what is the engine combo? Very nice work!
FASTBACK340 03-09-2005, 09:46 PM Excellent photo sequence! I can read stuff like that all day....
Pretty motor and nice workmanship. :thumleft:
DJVCUDA 03-10-2005, 06:37 AM Looks really good. How about a few details on that 360? So was the video before or after the header install?

the video is after the header installation, no pipes or anything...streight outts the collectors...I bet my neighbors luv me!

i guess thats it.. it's a mild motor!
Just not as mild as my old 318!!!
rabius75 03-10-2005, 09:55 AM mmm, 3.23s in an 8 1/4? that gives me some confidence in my choice to maintain the 8.25 in my car..
8.25 is great, my wife's Valiant with 383 have one and now after 16 years in street driving and over 120 racestart, it had broken once, diffentrial lock went broke...
rabius75 03-10-2005, 03:01 PM sounds good to me. so i guess my goal of 300Hp for my car is quite feesible with the rear end thats in it :)
Cuda66 03-10-2005, 08:42 PM Excelent Job.
The one question I have is- Why does your car have a column shift? Didn't all Barracudas come standard w/ a console shifter?
DJVCUDA 03-11-2005, 06:24 AM my car was originanally a /6 auto on the column...
DJVCUDA 12-06-2005, 08:56 PM Just figured I'd add that I just ran a 12.80 @ 108 with some stickies at atco a few weeks ago... now were talkin!
OldVart 12-07-2005, 09:13 AM Excellent!! :supz: That's almost the same 360 build I have in my Vart and I'm hoping for mid to low 13's on street tires and high 12's at the strip with some stickies out back. Gotta love those lightweight pre 67 A Bodies. Good work, and thanks for the great photo spread on the header installation. :thumblef:
DJVcuda: didn't lengthening the steering column cause the housing to stick into the passenger compartment further? Or did you cut some off the housing too?
Having the steering wheel closer to me, further away from the dash, would be very annoying!
DJVCUDA 12-08-2005, 08:20 AM when I built the car I adjusted the column as close to the dash as possible - (i'm like you!)
I added 3/4 of an inch to the total length of the shaft, and yes the wheel is 3/4" closer, but I didnt notice it.
of couse it is acolumn shift car, if it was a console car I would not have had to cut anything!
PistolGrip 12-08-2005, 07:26 PM I had never visited this site before. I thought this description of the Spitfire installation was great. I have a '66 Barracuda that was a \6 3 on the tree & put in a 340 4-speed several years ago. I did the Spitfire installation, but did not need to cut the steering column - but it was a helluva tight fit. I had the Spitfires ceramic coated & today they still look like new.
64ragtop 12-20-2005, 05:18 PM DJV, the pics of the header install are way cool! However, I got a little lost on the exhaust pipes and cutouts. The Spitfires flanges are above the torsion bars, right??? So you built Exhaust pipes to get past the t-bars and added on the dumps??? The pics of the "fishmouthing" don't show the jig you mentioned, but that fit needs to be quite precise, doesn't it? I would like to see the jig, unless you're building these up for others and keeping your cards close to your vest.
If _that's_ the case, we'll need to talk after I get my Spitfires!
ValiantMike 12-20-2005, 05:37 PM Nice work, and excellant pics.
DOHCRT 12-21-2005, 08:41 AM Will these work on a 69 Dart? If the 66 is a tight fit, the 69 should have some breathing room? If these will fit, it would eliminate the requirement to disassemble the suspension and lift the engine to install them.
DJVCUDA 12-21-2005, 12:00 PM on a 69 i'd recommend getting a set of tti's ..
as far as the fishmouthing - i'll post some pix of the finished product...

Valcuda318 06-25-2006, 09:43 AM my 318 is running 13.71@101mph with spitfires, but i personally do have leaks.... right where the header hooks up to my exhaust....
Charrlie_S 08-28-2006, 07:19 AM I spoke to Harold(spitfire), over the weekend. Right now his leadtime on headers is about 2 weeks. If anyone needs a set, call him at: 1-479-650-9989
price is $225 delivered cod
tdmer 10-10-2006, 11:19 PM I've looked at this thread numerous time and never thought to ask will these headers fit a p/s car?
Charrlie_S 10-11-2006, 07:09 AM Will not fit with PS on the 63-66 "A" body. Will fit 67 up with PS.
oldmoparsrule 10-26-2006, 10:37 PM Hello,
I just received a set of Spitfires from Harold. I have a second set on their way next week. As was already mentioned, they are designed to work with a manual steering box. He is selling them for $225 COD. You can reach him at 1-479-650-9989. You can also e-mail him at sptfirehdrs01@cox.net.
I bought a set for my 64, and for my 66.
In terms of the conversion from power to manual steering, I bought an adapter from a guy at the Fall Fling. I paid him $45. He told me that Mopar created the adapter, and for a while it could be found in junkyards. He has also an adapter machined that does the same thing. I did not get him name, but the machined part was $55. This is MUCH better than the $140 I have seen for other adapters. I am sorry, I will try to figure out his name, or contact information.
Thanks!

Valiantsignet20 04-19-2007, 10:24 PM Does anyone know if these headers will fit with a 10.5inch flywheel aluminium bellhousing? Also how is the port fit on a set of air injected heads. I have the holes pluged on mine,so no worry about a leak there. I just wonder if they will bolt flush because of the extra casting below the exhaust port?
DJVCUDA 04-20-2007, 07:02 AM mine are air injected heads, they fit fine...
couldent tell you about the flywheel...
jahsh 04-21-2007, 12:08 AM Does anyone know if these headers will fit with a 10.5inch flywheel aluminium bellhousing? Also how is the port fit on a set of air injected heads. I have the holes pluged on mine,so no worry about a leak there. I just wonder if they will bolt flush because of the extra casting below the exhaust port?
Since you have to have an exhaust shop weld up-to the collector, the larger 10.5 bellhousing isn't a problem. For me personally, my modified z-bar used to work with the 10.5 bellhousing placed it right below the collector, so it seemed as if it would be difficult for an exhaust shop bend things up into the collector. With that said, I have seen other people's z-bar and it didn't look like a problem at all.
I have sense tried to start working on using some Doug's instead of spitfires.
Valiantsignet20 04-22-2007, 11:36 PM I guess I will wait till later on this year and take a gamble. My z-bar is located in the stock local but my z-bar is a custom billet steel piece (got tired of the old ones breaking) and the arms are at a different angle and geometry then the stock piece. Thanks for the info guys.
Glow Worm 05-04-2007, 08:27 AM Did you guys weld the collector flanges on before or after installation?
Will the header go on and come off with the flanges on WITHOUT removing the steering shaft? (I know the stock manifold won't)
I'm starting the engine swap today, and my exhaust guy isn't in on the deal yet. I know I shoulda asked this question before today.......
abodyjoe 05-04-2007, 11:56 AM i think djv fit the headders then welded the flange on so he knew how to position thm for bolt access.
Glow Worm 05-04-2007, 12:49 PM That makes sense.
62v200 08-25-2007, 08:28 AM Harold's prices have gone up. I got mine 3yrs ago and they were $150 to my door. Never had any problems with leaks or anything, fit nice. They'll also fit 60-62 Valiants and Lancers - no power steering of course.
lonewolf 08-27-2007, 05:37 AM Is there a email address to contact Harold Johnson , or how did you get a hold of him to order headers.? I am finally ready to dive in to headers on my 65 dart. Do you know if they fit a power steering car?
abodyjoe 08-27-2007, 07:14 AM try this number.. 1-479-650-9989
lonewolf 08-27-2007, 01:45 PM Thanks, I just called and left a message!

The one question I have is- Why does your car have a column shift? Didn't all Barracudas come standard w/ a console shifter?
Both 66 Barracudas I have had came with 273s, 904s and column shift.
DJVCUDA 11-17-2007, 06:47 PM mine was a six cylinder car and came with the column shift...
65 Dartman 11-17-2007, 07:34 PM The 66 Barracuda I bought a couple of weeks ago is also a slant with a column shift. Must have been quite common from the responses I've seen here.
'64 Cuda 11-17-2007, 09:25 PM It seems to be common on the '66 models. Every auto trans '65 I've seen had the shifter on the floor, but my Mom's 65 with a slant six had three on the tree.
65DrtGT 02-18-2008, 11:21 PM Hey man i just orderd a set of spits today for my `65GT Itl be a 318w/360hds cut for 202and 160s with an ld4intake ported an 8 3/4 dif w/323 shure grip and also A833 4spd thanx alot for the pics Harold said they are drop in look to be the "fish plate"is where for what??also i noticed you opted for 3 bolt flange? does this give me enough room at the Zbar for 2.5"?? thanx
65DrtGT 02-29-2008, 08:59 PM JAHSH so whats the deal with your Z bar ive been told variing things like the throw fork has to be modedtoo is this true and if so what OTHER surprises am i in for to put a10 1/2 bh Z bar 833 with spits?? any help helps thanx
wedgie 04-14-2008, 06:15 AM My '65 has a stock column shift automatic. The '65 is the only year that has the shift and park cable adapter box on the steering column just ahead of the firewall. Will the spitfires clear this stock setup or do I need to convert to a floor shift?
tsdart 07-23-2008, 05:20 PM I can't remember when I ordered mine from Harold, but I just got them!
