moparron 03-25-2008, 07:10 AM I am moving to the Houston area very soon.. and am curious if anybody is down there. The bad thing is that I don't get to bring anything down there... since the company will only re-locate one vehicle - yadda yadda yadda. Since the Barracuda was in exploded view (in pieces) it wasn't really able to be transported so it has been sold up here. I am hoping that once I get a house down there I will be able to acquire another car and, yes, start all over again. I don't know if I will be getting another Barracuda or something else.... for some reason a 69 Valiant 2 door post just seems to be pulling at me as my next car! :-)
More importantly I am curious as to local clubs, people, etc... Being that Houston is the 4th largest city in the US there has to be something - right??
I still need to sell my Grand Cherokee - as it is too big for a U-haul trailer (go figure?) so I will be only bringing my little daily driver and the wife's car (she will be driving her own car down).
daredevil 03-25-2008, 09:05 AM Welcome Ron ,I,m in Rosenberg a little town 30 minutes outside of Houston. Theres 3 dragstrips within a hour of Houston and We have the big track hrp and theres a houston mopar connection club. Diamondback engines is here and theyre a mopar based company that runs the mopower style site. Check it out a lot of locals there.
moparron 03-25-2008, 09:13 AM SAWEET! At least one person down there then! :-)
I will be working in Pasadena, then most likely end up in in the cy-Fair office. So looking for a house will be a trick since I don;t know how long I will be in Pasadena I am trying to find something in the middle (sugarland?). I found the perfect little house out by Katy (3bed, 2 bath, attached 2 car garage, detached 2½ garage) but that puts me an hour away from the office assuming that Houston Traffic is as bad as Denver's!
As it looks right now, I should be in the office on 5/17 which is one day shy of 6 months since this transfer started... the date keeps changing, but this date feels more solid as they have answered a lot of the important questions finally. It's going to be a little insane as I still have two cars to sell here... along with the house, and a bunch of stuff that won't fit in a U-Haul (1900 cubic feet and I have 2800 cubic feet of crap). I will be getting an apartment first, as I can't buy a house without seeing it first - ya know? Plus the sale of this house will be only a day or two before I leave. Although I am hoping for a 30 day vacate time... that way I can blow the money on the move! :-)
daredevil 03-25-2008, 09:57 AM I know a real good house inspector if youre going to be buying. i used him when i bought my house in jan. Katys only 20 mins from me.i work in the cypress area. Our shops at 1960 and jones, cyfair area. as long as youre close to the belt way or westpark toll road you,ll be alright going to stinkadena. EZ tags only way to go for commuters here.
moparron 03-25-2008, 10:07 AM Stinkadena - eh? That's funny we have one of those up here too.... due to the refinery "Commerce City" is known as "Commerce stinky" :-)
A good home inspector will be a good person to know! As I do plan on buying something once I get down there.
I understand the EZ pass thing - but I hope the tolls are cheaper than they are here! round trip on C470 from north Denver to south Denver costs $20.. that's $100 a week to commute. No wonder nobody uses the darn road!
rypp77 03-25-2008, 10:16 AM I'm a web designer in the Richmond/Rosenberg area. I'm currently working on a 1972 dodge dart and looking for parts in the Houston area. Mainly a rear 489 rearend. If not that, what parts do you have that are up for sale.
OH...I didn't see any 69 Valiant online but I did check our neighborhoods to see what they are selling.

daredevil 03-25-2008, 10:32 AM Hey rypp77 we must be neighbors where are you at
moparron 03-25-2008, 10:33 AM A 72 dart... Cool!
what sucks is that I included my chunks with the sale of the Barracuda... four of them to be exact.... a 2.76 open, a 3.21 open, a 3.23 open and a 3.23 sure grip - I forget what housings were what though. Also two 2 A-body 8 3/4's and one b body 8 3/4 went with it. Like I said - I will be starting over. As it is my garage can fill a U-haul as it is already.. so I have been lightening that up a lot!
If I get that house out by Katy I will be golden, but any other house with a standard 2 car garage I will be cramped as my current garage has 900 sq feet with a 400 sq foot attic making the total square footage in the garage bigger than the house (which I am okay with!)
rypp77 03-25-2008, 10:56 AM I'm in Richmond in Pecan Grove off of Hwy 90. Where are you at?
-r
daredevil 03-25-2008, 11:00 AM Rosenberg by the tennis courts at sunset park
rypp77 03-25-2008, 11:00 AM I think I do know where a 69 Barracuda is....I'm seen in Richmond and I know where there is a 73 Barracuda also in Richmond.
rypp77 03-25-2008, 11:07 AM Daredevil, you are my new best friend, mainly cuz you are the closest. What are your projects?
Currenly I have two, the Dart and (Sorry Mopar Friends) 1957 2dr Chevy. The Dart is more my baby since my Father gave it to me and its the closest thing to be finished.
-r
moparron 03-25-2008, 11:16 AM HMMMM>....another 69 Barracuda! That would be nice! a 73 Barracuda... unless it's a POS it will be out my range. E-bodies are over priced for my blood. Don't get me wrong I won't turn one down, but I can't justify the $50K they want for a rusted out shell. :-)
I definitely want something to tinker with other than the Fiero... sorry Mopar peeps, the Fiero is a fun little car.
rypp77 03-25-2008, 11:26 AM If I get a chance this weekend and I have my digital camera on hand...I'm take some snap shops to show you the cars...Both are project cars and the locations.

Crank It Up!!! 03-30-2008, 11:02 PM I live in the Katy area. Thats just west outa Hou. Been here all my life. Havent decided if thats good or bad. Just kiddin. There's two ways to look at where you live around here. You either live right down ths road from where you work, or you git out of town. If I was working in Cy-Fair, I would eather live nearby or go out 290 towards Hempstead. The Cy-Fair area is actually pretty nice for the most part. You can find some nice older homes. Of course there's new construction as well. Hope ya like tall pine trees. The area is full of um. Not to say there's not others, but pines dominate. Its a pretty area. Who ya work for and where is thier office?
I just got on this site a short time ago. I'm in process of restoring a 67 Dart 2 door hardtop. Actually I havent even finished gutting it out yet. Though the body doesnt need much, the car sat for about 12 years in some woods behind a barn with a broken out window. Needless to say the entire interior is trashed. It apparently made a nice home for all kinds of critters. Havent found the 4 foot snake that left its skin behind the front grill yet. Hopefully he was only there for a visit and is long gone.
Anyway, good luck with your move. Let us know when tha boos and beer arrive!!! :drinkers:
moparron 03-31-2008, 07:28 AM Katy? WOO HOO! I have actually found some homes out that way. Actually one of them was a 'dream' home. it had a 2 car attached and a 2½ car detached garage! But it came off the market last week :-( So now I get to look some more. It's not like I am in a huge rush to buy straight away though - I can't buy a house site unseen and I seem to be having problems selling this place all of a sudden!
My dilemma right now is I will be in the Pasadena office, and will most likely end up in our pinemont office - so I am looking sort of in the middle now... like around Alief, Sugarland, etc... but I have no idea how these areas in 'real life'. Want a decent school district for the step-daughter... the meaner and stricter the better. :-) I work for DISH Network and will going to our installation division so it's not very likely that anyone would know where the offices are - as they are not generally advertised, at least not up here they aren't.
A 67 Dart 2 door - Saweet! I had a dart 'phase' for a few years... had a '68 GT that I was playing with for a while, until I came across a 70 swinger. I Had to have the swinger and sold the 68 to get it... regretted it since. The 68 was rough looking, but was basically all there and unmolested. The 70 had been basically raped and covered up. I think the data plate was actaully worth more then what was left of the car, and it had 10 pounds of extra weight due to bondo and fiberglass they used to fill in the side of the car where it had been smashed.
Having just sold the 69 Barracuda fastback project I was working on. I am not sure if when I start over I want another one. Yeah, it's cool car... but I think I might want something a little less 'main stream' I sort of like the idea of a 69 Valiant 2 door (but even they seem to be getting more popular!). I might have to go with something other than an A-body (gasp) and look for something like a 64 Savoy, or 330 or something.
There is a 65 Dart 2 door that just showed up in the neighborhood here... that if I wasn't moving I would be knocking on their door and asking about it. It has minimal rust... just some 'spots' on the front fenders and none that I can see in the rear quarters that just cries out 360 transplant to me!
Oh and Y'all can guarantee that I will let you know when I lave here and head down there. Might even have to have a truck unloading get together - BWAHAHAHAHAHA. We are trying to figure out how to get everything crammed into a 26' moving van! The Garage could take up a whole moving van so there is a lot left out there that I have to get rid of. :-(
SwingerMan 03-31-2008, 08:40 AM I live out in La Porte (east of Pasadena on Galveston Bay). There is a lot of stuff going on around us we have a group of Mopars that regularly get together for cruises etc. Every Saturday night there is a big cruise to Kemah when you get here you should come check it out.
moparron 03-31-2008, 08:47 AM Cool - I am hoping that there is more of a Mopar presence down there than there is up here! Oh wait, we have a few clubs up here - but they all seem to be on a God complex about one thing or another! Okay, maybe a God complex is a little harsh... one is all about the E-body and high dollar cars.. if you have a project that you are working on.. they don't have the time of day for you,. If you have a 3 million dollar barrett jackoff car you are their best friend. The other club is more about the stock cars but is sort of run by one fellow that has a mass of parts to sell to the other members. So maybe - they both have messed up political agendas? :-)
Opps.. sorry... looks like I am trying to climb up on a soapbox this morning!
daredevil 03-31-2008, 12:14 PM Daredevil, you are my new best friend, mainly cuz you are the closest. What are your projects?
Currenly I have two, the Dart and (Sorry Mopar Friends) 1957 2dr Chevy. The Dart is more my baby since my Father gave it to me and its the closest thing to be finished.
-rRight now i,m working on a 66 Coronet with a 500 ci stroker and when i,m done i,ll start on my wifes 69 barracuda
Crank It Up!!! 04-07-2008, 04:02 AM so I am looking sort of in the middle now... like around Alief, Sugarland, etc... but I have no idea how these areas in 'real life'. Want a decent school district for the step-daughter... the meaner and stricter the better. You do not want to live in Alief. Sugarland YES, but just about anywhere besides Alief and parts of Bellaire. I strongly suggest you reconsider your search. Memorial, YES. Katy, YES. Mission Bend, NO. Cypress, YES. Cyfair, YES. Pacon Grove, YES. and there's many others. You need to come see for yourself. Been here all my life and would be more than happy to show you around. YOU BUY THA GAS and pay tha tolls!!! LOL.
Good luck.
Robert
moparron 04-07-2008, 07:08 AM That's EXACTLY what I need to know! What about Sam Houston & fort Bend toll road area? Found a what looks to be a nice house in that area... Just south of the Sam Houston and East of the Fort Bend toll road.
I have noticed that there as many toll roads in the Houston area as there in the north east! We have one here in Denver that nobody uses because they keep raising the toll.. it basically costs 25 cents a mile to drive on it. Could be more depending on which parts you use... you can get on (pay 50 cents) hit a toll station ($2) and get off ( another 50 cents) and spent $3 to go a friggin mile and a half!

The Sam Houston tollway runs north and south in that area where the Fort Bend Tollway runs east and west. From what your discribing, I think your talkind about east of the Sam and south of tha Fort Bend. If so, your kinda gittin into whats considered the Memorial area depending on how far from that intersection your talkin. Cant help ya much on the schools around there other than its Houston I.S.D. You might consider looking in the area north of I-10 and west of tha Sam. Older homes but definately some nice ones. Tha toll roads here can git expencive but It doesnt sound quite as bad as yours. $1.50 per toll plaza and anywhere from 25-75 cents per on/off ramp naturally depending on how far you travel. I dont git on the thing to only go a couple of miles. Not worth it. No matter where you live out this way the drive to Stinkadena is gonna be a bitch. I would truely consider putting most of you shit in storage and getting an apartment thats closer untill you transfer to your Pinemont office. Pinemont is off 290. You should look in the Jersey Village area. Just about anywhere out 290 towards Hwy 6//FM 1960 is gonna be O.K. Lots of new construction beyond there.
More later if ya like.
Just so you'll know, and not knowing your race or wanting to ruffle any feathers, most of the Alief and surrounding area is gittin pretty dark to include mexicans, asians and blacks. I'm not particularly pregidest I just prefer to live in a prodominately white area.
I'm sure I'm gonna catch some shit for that one. Wont be tha first time. :bootysha:LOL!!!
sublimeswinger 04-08-2008, 12:03 PM Not sure where your lookin but look at the Woodlands, out side of Houston. You wont be disapointed. Spring is also nice from what i remember.
Crank It Up!!! 04-09-2008, 12:05 AM Not sure where your lookin but look at the Woodlands, out side of Houston. You wont be disapointed. Spring is also nice from what i remember. He's right. Both tha Woodlands and Spring are nice areas. Little farther drive to Pinemont. But then you always have tha Sam Tollway. Copperfield is nice. Its just off 290 about a mile or so down Hwy 6. You dont play golf do ya? Hearthstone is one of many places for that. Not to say you have to play golf to live there. There's new construction out 290 around Fry Rd. and beyond. Do you know how long your gonna be in Stinkadena? Once you move to Pinemont, your not gonna want to commute every day from say Sugarland or even Katy. Since you perminate Pinemont office is Northwest, look out that way for your house. Go rent something down south untill you transfer. How bout a beech house around Kemah? We'll PARTY!!! Seriously, rent as close to your Pas. office as possible and then buy you a house on the Northwest side. No reason to have to drive (or should I say sit) for over an hour in traffic twics a day unless you have to.
Happy hunting!!!
moparron 04-09-2008, 07:08 AM Yeah.. I'm seeing where I was looking at Sugarland// it's 27 miles from the stinadena office, 18 from Katy and 20 from Pinemont. Not to mention I have been warned to stay out of the southwest side of town by many! So what about the Humble area - just east of Spring basically... that puts right in the middle of the two office... so 15-17 miles to each office. I also have to take into account the wife will be looking for a Job once we get there and even though we don't' know where she will be working we don't want her commute to be outrageous either! So we are trying to stay around businesses as well.
Most of what I own will be in storage - as we are going to get an apartment first. I can't buy a home site unseen if ya' know what I mean. especially since I know nothing about the areas.
And Crank-it-up.... no feathers ruffled! I am pretty much the same way.. well just because I guess.
daredevil 04-09-2008, 07:41 AM I commute everyday from rosenberg to cypress. it takes 50 minutes. I leave` early to beat traffic. Cinco Ranch is a nice area with good schools and its next to the west park tollroad . Nothing wrong with sw side from Sugarland out. From Cinco ranch its only 30 minutes to the track. Lone star raceway.
moparron 04-09-2008, 07:52 AM Ahhh... key words there... from Sugarland OUT... I was looking inside from sugarland to Bellaire!
I know where Cypress is on the map - but no idea where Rosenburg is? My big glitch is that I will be in Pasadena for a while, then in Pinemont if all goes as planned. I thought about renting out in Pasadena then buying something once i transfer - but with the kid I would rather get her lazy butt into a school and leave her there for the most part. I guess unless the district just sux more than the schools up here (which is hard to do).
mopwr2004a 04-09-2008, 10:18 AM I'm in LaPorte also like it here right near city hall so I can do eaxactly what I want as for a shop but the area is quite and always a nice breeze off the bay.
Crank It Up!!! 04-10-2008, 02:33 AM Humble is good. Real close to tha SanJacinto River and Lake Houston. Not one of our larger or nicer lakes but a lake just tha same. You'll probobly think it looks more like a big muddy pond compaired to tha clear water your accustom to. Best be gittin used to it if you like lakes or tha beech. No melted ice and snow runnin over rocks down here. Dig a big hole in tha dirt and fill it with water. TaaDaa ......... Lake. LOL!!!
moparron 04-10-2008, 07:43 AM OH my! You have been fooled by the beer commercials! Most of our 'streams' are only really flowing once a year and that lasts three weeks - at that time you don't want to be anywhere near them! They are violent enough that the streams are brown, muddy and fast.
I'm okay with muddy water holes....not that I am an avid beach goer - since I have been land locked for many years.
Crank It Up!!! 04-14-2008, 02:51 AM OH my! You have been fooled by the beer commercials! Most of our 'streams' are only really flowing once a year and that lasts three weeks - at that time you don't want to be anywhere near them! They are violent enough that the streams are brown, muddy and fast.
I'm okay with muddy water holes....not that I am an avid beach goer - since I have been land locked for many years.Naaaa, thier not really that bad. Some of um clear up real nice if we dont git any rain for a while. Gotta admit tha nicest ones are up in tha hill country generally around Austin and vacinity. There's numerous lakes spread out in all directions from there. Lots of rock up through that area. Its perdy!!! We hope to retire up that way. (I guess we all have our own dreams) I've been to colorfull Colorado. I've seen some of your small lakes and streams/rivers. Hope this is right ..... Ole Habor Lake, Mirror Lake, even rode the Old Durango mine train. Beautiful places!!! So I aint buyin your muddy stream story. Saw too many during the summer that were crystal clear. And Cold too!!! We're talkin instant shrinkage here. LOL.
Wow, are you in for a change. Summers at 95+* and 85+ humidity. Winters arent much different. One day its near freezing and tha next your back in shorts again. We dont do winter clothes down here. Jeans and a jacket is about all you'll need. Hope you got your last look at snow. Forgit about it!!! We git our little cold snaps down here when tha jet stream gits pushed down this way but they dont last. Mostly just passing fronts. Did I mention rain? Yeah, Yall git snow, we git rain. Yall ride snowmobiles in pretty white snow, we ride ATVs in tha brown mud. Yall winterize your boats for several months, we dont even know what winterizing is. Thats when ours run tha fastest. Every year we (a little group of outboard river racers) have one of our biggest local boat meets/races (The Winter Nationals) in January on tha SanJacinto River just below the Lake Houston dam. (Its not exactly an advertised sanctioned event. More like street racin in boats.) So come on down with your bad self. There's always something to do.
L8R!!!
Crank It Up!!! 04-14-2008, 03:30 AM I commute everyday from rosenberg to cypress. it takes 50 minutes. I leave` early to beat traffic. Cinco Ranch is a nice area with good schools and its next to the west park tollroad . Nothing wrong with sw side from Sugarland out. From Cinco ranch its only 30 minutes to the track. Lone star raceway. Cinco is in tha Katy area right down tha road from me. So is Kellywood, Notingham, and several others. This is a nice area but there's others northwest and north that are just as nice. Katy does have one of the best school district though. But then just about any of um that arent Houston ISD are usually pretty good. I'll ask my sister where her kids went and how it was. She lives in tha west/northwest side. Ya know, without tryin to pry or butt into your business or finantial status, it would help us to know how much your lookin to spend on a house. That would either open neighborhoods for ya, or pretty much rule um out. You prefer new construction, 5-10 years old, more? Throw us a bone here!!! :grommit: LOL.
moparron 04-14-2008, 07:30 AM HAHAHA.. instant shrinkage... that ain't no lie! I do have to say Colorado does have the anomaly of water being 10 degrees and still liquid! It's that down hill movement it makes or something. Okay so it's not really 10 degrees it just feels like it. And yes.. some of the streams are pretty clear due to the amount of rock we have....But during June the rivers coming out of the mountains are pretty muddy since the snowmelt gets those rivers running pretty hard. You can run down I-70 on the western slope and watch debris past you.... you're running 70 MPH and watching tree branches pass you! But again - that's for three weeks usually in June. Other than that they are pretty calm and normal.
Since this transfer has been going on for six... count 'em SIX months I have actually been watching the weather down there.. and yes, it does seem that y'all (I've been practicing :-) ) get rain about twice a week. And in reality - your Humidity has been on par or less than we have had?? I know it ain't summer yet - and it will be similar to Orlando in the Summer where it's 95*/95% so I do know I will be walking into a wet sticky hell during the summer. Snow - well that's one reason I want out of here! :-) I was raised just outside of Tucson, AZ so the heat isn't a big deal .... the humidity will take making an adjustment, but no where near as much as the snow has been for me! Granted - the wife will have a shock... no mountains to look at and no snow. She has never been more then 25 miles from Boulder - so it will be a shock for her.
As for housing - well how much I spent depends on where I buy... the higher the tax rate the lower the price of the house :-) I know, I know no state income tax... but 3.4% property tax? Even with the homestead discount on a 100K house that's an extra $225 a month.. just for the property tax! Since we are coming down with only one of us working - two big car payments, and paying for our lifestyle here we are looking at 125K and down. But if the cost of living is really less than here - then our price point may go up?
The wife may have a position with Nokia .... don't know yet. and of course we don;t even know where they are. we assume it will be on the other side of Houston form where I am working - just because that's how it seems to work! If we get an apartment in Humble and go to buy a house up there... she will work east of Katy, if we go to the Sugarland/Missouri City area then she will get a job up by Humble! :-)
sublimeswinger 04-14-2008, 09:04 AM I wanna move back, can you get me a job????
moparron 04-16-2008, 09:01 AM So my Apartment hunting guy is asking what I think of the Pearland area?? So y'all what do I think about that?
mopwr2004a - you live near there, what are your thoughts?
moparron 04-17-2008, 07:08 AM Okay - so I may have found an apartment - need to know how the area is! :-) It's in the area of the 610 (north loop) and 59 (eastex freeway) the actual address is 6767 Bennington , Houston , TX 77028 in case what I 'know' is wrong again! :-)
1969340dart 04-17-2008, 10:02 PM NO SIR! you do not want to move there Moparron! Not a good area at all! NOT AT ALL!Losts of DRUGS,And everything that goes along with them! You would need to go about 25 miles North on 59 from that location before you get in a good area! Which would be the Humble Area! If you have any questions about Areas around houston let me now and I can inform you on the areas! and if they are worth living there! You may e mail me at BigBlcok396540@yahoo.com and I will be more than happy to assist.
1969340dart 04-18-2008, 06:23 PM Sorry Ron I did not intend to misspell my e mail address or any other words! I am a bad speller, seems my Brain or what little of it I have left goes 10 mph and my fingers go 90 mph! LOL which causes MUCH CONFUSION in my SPELLING! that should have been BigBlock396540@yahoo.com But I see what you were thinking maybe! When my Daughter read the post she had a BIG LAUGH! So She went running to tell her Mom and now they are making fun of my spelling! Guess I am going to have to take some spelling classes! LOL
moparron 04-18-2008, 11:01 PM And here I thought you did it to keep the spammers away! :-)
1969340dart 04-19-2008, 12:37 AM Ron if that would keep the Spammers away I would certainly change it.LOL
also let me know if you find anything on those web sites I e mailed to you, hopefully they will be of some benefit. And If I can do anything to help just let me know. Also I was talking with my daughter and she suggested that I tell you that you might want to look for an apartment over in the Laporte area which would cut your commute time down a BUNCH! Not to mention the $$$ you would save on fuel and the traffic headaches. Then you could be looking for a Home to purchase in the Northwest area if that is where you want to go to. And that sounded like a good idea to me. There are even some other areas out that way that are very nice also, just something you might want to think about. From the Northwest part of Houston out off 290 and jones road area it is approx 25 to 30 miles to the Pasadena area and if you found something around Laporte you are looking at about 5 to 10 miles and very minimum traffic time!
Bobby
Crank It Up!!! 04-21-2008, 11:42 AM First, you forgot to budgit all tha trips back to Boulder your wife is gonna be makin. LOL!!! Second, $125 is gonna limit where you can search for a house. On average I would say the nicer neighborhoods are runnin in the $160s plus plus plus. In the neighborhood I live in the lower priced homes are about where you wanna be and up to around $160. Needless to say this isnt one of your upper class neighborhoods but there not bad. Older but still not bad. Lets call it blue coller. My daughter and her husband are buying a new 3 bedroom home for about $140. That seems to be tha way to go. Why buy a 30 year old home when you can buy new for the same $$$ or less. You can find plenty of new construction in every dirrection. Do a search for new home builders in or around Houston. Check out where thier currently biulding, floor plans and prices. No matter where you end up, I hope your acustom to having neighborhood restrictions. The only way to git away from those are to live outa town in a more country type area. Good luck on that one. Land is pretty high but you could try up north beyond Humble or northwest in the Hempstead area. In my opinion that would be highly recomended. Screw all these homeowner restrictions!!! Those people piss me off on a regular basis. Plus you gotta pay um. :bootysha:
OOPS, gotta go. More later.
moparron 04-22-2008, 10:44 AM Oh I'm not looking for a pish-posh neighborhood... just someplace that is decent and safe for the family. Personally I have never been one to get along with people that have a pool, two boats, a Porsche and a beemer! :-) But want something more than the house with a 76 camaro up ion blocks for the last five years because the glasspacks overheated the transmission! :-)
I would prefer to stay away from a gestapo (I mean HOA) run community - I have received enough tickets for my grass being 1/4" too tall in my life. But I have noticed that EVERY community has fees in the Houston area.... friggin Commies!
nasty69 04-22-2008, 10:59 AM good to see theres some more members around sw houston. im in richmond across from the ymca we guys need to get together sometime.. did any of you happenn to go to the SPRING FLING? about 2 weekends ago?i had my car in there and won best late unfinished.
Crank It Up!!! 04-22-2008, 12:22 PM Ut,Oh, so what about more than 2 boats, a 4-Runner and a 91 Club Wagon??? LOL. Did I mention I work for a pool company??? LMAO!!! I have some ideas on some older neighborhoods that from what I've seen seem to be a little more relaxed as far as the HOA crap. No they dont have cars up on blocks either. Your just gonna have to go house shoppin when you git here. This is too big a place to try and pinpoint tha neighborhoods that might have what your lookin for. Still think a house on a lot out of town is tha way to go. You really aughta consider out 290 towards Hempstead. Start looking north of Hockley towards Magnolia and east of there towards Tomball and of course west to Hempstead. That covers a pretty big area. It may be a little more of a drive but well worth the pease and quiet. Let alone the absence of an HOA. You will however need to look into the schools out there. I honestly dont know much about um. As far as the area goes, I think you'd like it. Lots of trees and not so flat. Tha land starts rolling a bit out that way. I'd move out that way myself if I could. Granted that Hempstead itself is about 30 miles from Pinemont, traffic isnt as bad once you git out of town. I'd rather drive 45 minutes on open highway than sit in traffic for tha same. Like I said befor, either git out of town or live as close to your job as possible and with todays gas prices, that might not be such a bad idea. We're gittin close to $3.40 a gal for regular now. :bootysha: Damn good thing I have a company truck and gas card.
L8R!!!
'74 Sport 04-23-2008, 01:27 PM My brother lives in Spring, just off Stubener-Airline Rd. on the north edge of Houston, and I get down there occasionally. There is a very nice car show done annually in Old Town Spring. They close off several streets downtown where all the shops and restaurants are located. It's usually hotter 'n blue blazes in the summer, though.

1969340dart 04-23-2008, 05:43 PM Yea but if you get there early you can park under a big shade tree and watch pretty ladies go by all day long! Good eats around to be had, cold beer or three,a comfortable lawn chair and then a little nap! Makes for a real nice day of fun!
daredevil 04-23-2008, 08:41 PM I wouldnt want to drive in on 290n in the morning. Its backed up at 6 oclock

I live in Hempstead about 45 minutes out 290 (On a Sunday!!) towards Austin. Mon. thru Fri it will take you 1.5 to 2! Its really nice and quiet out here. I work in Tomball which might be a place you can check out. Unless you are near Kingwood i would look elsewhere from Eastex Frwy, 59North!

I wouldnt have thought from Hempstead to Pinemont would take him that long. That sucks!!! But then it has grown quite a bit out that way in recent years. I never git over that way during traffic hours. Sounds like I should consider myself lucky.
So its back to the drawing board. Screw it!!! Find a place close to your work and not have to deal with all tha morning/evening traffic. Its a win, win. Less traffic meaning you can be there and back in just a few minutes and a tank of gas will last a hell of a lot longer. Speaking of, At some stations, SHELL IN PARTICULAR its $3.50 a gallon now. OUCH!!!

Naaaa, in all honesty ours arent near as bad as some of tha northern cars. At least we dont have SALTED freeways for 6 months every year. What were they thinkin???
Years ago we had a 1976 Olds Cutlass Supreme 2 door with T-Tops. Damn tops leaked and rusted out tha back floorboards. Mostly the drivers side. You could chunk just about anything out through it. Ended up having to put a board over it just to keep one of tha kids from disappearing. LOL!!!
Big Kahuna 04-30-2008, 12:41 PM Ron -- how could you forget your old buddy was from the Houston area. Hook up with me when you get down here -- I might have some weekend and evening paint and body for you if interested. I have the shop.
You can reach me on the other board.

You'd love Richmond, Rosenberg, Katy, Needville, Fulshear, Simonton, west of Houston.
daredevil 04-30-2008, 05:06 PM kinda what i was saying Dave.
moparron 05-13-2008, 08:51 AM So now that I am here.... and in the apartment in Humble. I like this area! Granted it's 35 miles to the office - but it only takes about 45 minutes to get to Pasadena from up here.
It's quiet, not as populated and as y'all call it - this is the country around here! :-) Besides - the kid wants to try out the new school up here and their new way of running things!
sublimeswinger 05-13-2008, 09:36 AM Glad to hear you like it. I myself am looking to buy a house in The Woodlands and relocate to Texas. I need to find a job first though.

moparron 06-17-2008, 07:41 PM I am right on the lake off of 1960.. so your buddy should basically be around the corner from me! :-)
69charger 06-25-2008, 12:38 AM my sister lives out in atascocita, they live by some burger joint.
Its an independently run one I think, theres only like 3?
nasty69 06-25-2008, 09:30 AM I am right on the lake off of 1960.. so your buddy should basically be around the corner from me! :-)
well yall should be almost neighbors then!, he drives an 04 hemi black single cab with white hockey stripes in the back and a logo on the doors that says kleenvent..
moparron 06-25-2008, 08:39 PM I'll have to keep my eyes open for that.. I drive an 03 white dodge caravan that can disappear into a crowd of three... the only way to tell me is the Colorado dealership license plate frame! :-)
nasty69 07-11-2008, 09:39 AM yea i go up to visit my friend every now and then. haven't in a while b/c gas prices... imagine that. do you plan on purchasing some more mopars now that your here?
moparron 07-14-2008, 03:12 PM More mopars.... well umm yeah! :-) Once I get out of this bloody apartment. I would like to find a 69 Valiant 2 door to build. I think I want to get one that runs and drives with maybe a 6 in it still..then build up the driveline while I can still play with the car. The 'dream' is to put a 5.7 Hemi in the car ;-)
I think I am done buying POS MAJOR projects out of fields and trying to put the whole thing together... I can handle tooling around with a slant 6 for a while! :-)
Anyone know of any Valiants for sale ... cheap?
75Dusterman 07-16-2010, 12:02 PM Hi all, I live in the Heights area. Near down town on the north side. Humble is nice not a small town any more really. I guess we have most areas covered in this post. My wife grew up in Rosenburg and I grew up in Spring Branch.. Cool to see some Houstonians here! Any one know a good guy that will change a rear end gear and do a bering job in town? Not in A hurry I have had the gear for 10 years! Its a 323 sure grip unit. I am all highway gear now in Houston its cool but only fun @ + 35 mph. With a 3000 stall its WILD!!!
