noppid 05-06-2005, 04:09 PM This is my first draft of this. It should be self explanitory to operate. You edit your garage from a link in the User CP.
There is one thing to beware of. The preview button is for the description editor only. Do not fill out the registry information and click preview, your input will be lost.
If you edit the registry information always use submit.
If you use preview to test your description, no registry information that is already saved will be lost.
We have imported 195 vehicles from the old registry database. If you had one, or more, you now have a garage to replace them. All of the information was imported completely. However, you will notice that one field is set to MOPAR. That is a default because there was nothing to put there. That info is created on the fly. So please edit your garage if you would like the proper name there.
Please report any bugs and please be patient. Suggestions are welcome as well.
Thanks
mikesduster 05-06-2005, 04:58 PM i just looked at the vbgarage and you really should change the wording from plymouth mopar or dodge mopar to plymouthcuda, dodgedart, plymouth duster
thanks

In the version that was on the old board, it pulled the model information from the VIN Decoder database, that's why there was nothing for that field in the database. Since you've ported the VIN Decoder to vB, can you have it do the same thing?
mikelbeck 05-06-2005, 05:47 PM For example... The VIN for the vehicle in my garage is VS29H3B443604. The VIN Decoder decodes this as a 1973 Plymouth Valiant/Duster/Scamp, 2 Door Sports Hardtop with a 340 CID/240 HP 4 BBL V8.

It's working from where I sit, I don't understand the question?
If it's about the word MOPAR, then each user is going to have to fill that field in to their liking, it does not have to be anything in particular.
noppid 05-06-2005, 07:42 PM Oh, I see what you are suggesting now, make those top fields the same as the regisrty info if the registry is filled out?
That's a good idea, however could be confusing. I'll think on this and see what we can do.

Well, for example...
This entry:
http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/vbgarage.php?do=view&id=3&garage=43
Which is Adam's Barracuda shows that he has a '67 Plymouth Mopar. That's pretty much meaningless, as Mopar is DaimlerChrysler's parts division... The "Vehicle Information" section shows that it's a '67 Plymouth Valiant/Belvedere/Barracuda, which makes more sense. And if you run the VIN through the VIN Decoder, it decodes it as a '67 Plymouth Barracuda, which makes ever more sense, since that's what it actually is.
The data was available from the old database (with some massaging), so why would the users have to go back and update every record that was imported? Wouldn't it make more sense to export the data properly and then import it into the new database in the correct form?
AdamR 05-06-2005, 07:51 PM Actually I was editing ot while you were typing so it says Barracuda now.
noppid 05-06-2005, 07:51 PM It would make perfect sense if that wasn't a custom field and I was trying to let the garage lie dead.
I want everyone to go add pics and be forced to by that field being annoying.
I could write a query, fill it in, and forget it, but then no one would have any reason to go there.
I'm done for the weekend(barring a serious problem) and if joe wants more or that update, he can holler at me. I don't have final say in anything.
As I said, first draft.
