I am talking to a couple paint and body shop's know.
What I need from the members here is there thoughts.

Keep the white top or paint it gold ?
My 66 will be more of a show car with a few up grades under the hood with Rally wheels all around.
The 170/ will stay

Should I keep the white top or go factory gold all over.

Thank you for your help and your opinion

Keep the white, I was just looking at a picture of Victoria in another thread and was thinking to myself how good the white and gold looked together.

I agree, stay with the white top. It makes the car look interesting.

White top. it would look too plain if you had it all the same color. I like the idea of the rally wheels and leaving the slant in but having the 4 barrel and dual exh.

Sorry Mike, I gotta go with the crowd here - she wouldn't be Victoria if she wasn't wearing her white bonnet.

white top for sure. no way i would change that. the wheels i am unsure of. if it were a barracuda i say yes but not sure how they will look on your signet. what other wheels came on a 66? anything different that is period correct? i know in 67 the vallients had a mag looking wheel (maybe hubcab) that looks pretty good in pics. reason i am saying this is because the wheels may overpower the cars looks as a near "stock" valient.......just an opinion

7demon2
04-28-2009, 07:03 AM
memike here is the hubcabs i was talking about. i think these would look pretty good with the near stock look you have. i don't see these too much around so it would stand out in the crowd. maybe someone could photo shop these on you car.........

Yep, keep it white. I also vote against the rallye wheels, I have mocked up a set on Wendys 66 and IMPO, they just don't look right. I like the looks of the dogdish hubcaps, but I would go with the 14x5.5" steel rims painted body color with some raised white letter tires and dog dish. Of course, it's your decision and we'll all still love Victoria no matter what she's wearing!!! Have fun, Geof

well I'm gonna be a little different, I say paint the top to match the car and put the rallies on. Or get real crazy with it and slam it on some pro-stars! Either way that car is sweet!

After I installed air shocks and drove it a few miles and let the shocks down to a more level stance
I did the top and tire's in Paint, so it's just a look at here dirty
I am very happy with the air shocks, Nice and stable.

The white roof is such a classic Mopar look. Keeps the car interior cooler too. Rallys on early cars (before rallys were introduced) just don't look right.

However you should do whatever makes YOU happy.

The white needs to stay on top Mike. Just like the rest of us old folks. :) And definitely put the rally wheels on there to give her that "look".

The white needs to stay on top Mike. Just like the rest of us old folks. :) And definitely put the rally wheels on there to give her that "look". I am going to pick up a pair of good used tire's and have the 14'' rally wheels on to see how it looks Sid, I am looking at the top and I think yall are right, The white douse look good.
I wonder if 215 or 225's would be best:-k when I try the 14'' rally wheel's ?
She has 13'' 80's on her know

7demon2
04-28-2009, 10:50 AM
i doubt you would have room for 225's. 215's might be the limit , but this is just a guess. someone here will speak up on this....

OldVart
04-28-2009, 10:56 AM
Mike 225-70-14 will fit on the rear but the 215-70-14 will be very tight on the front. I did run a set on the front of my 66 for a while but they would rub sometimes, especiall if I was reversing and hit a little bump. I eventually went to 195-70-14 on the front to give it that slight rake with the 225-60-14's on the rear.

7demon2
04-28-2009, 11:01 AM
if what oldvart said is true then 205's all around would work for a matched set. i know bfgoodrich still makes 205 70 r14 tires in raised letter as i just bought some. had to order them though...

04-28-2009, 11:25 AM
I hate to run with the crowd but the white looks awesome! and 205 70 14 is as big as I was able to get under the front of valerie(my 65 valiant 2 door sedan) without rubbing and it was close,I had rally's on my 66 dart gt with the earlie center caps like you have there,I ran mine with no trim rings and it made the car look better so try it for a week with no trim rings and see if it grows on ya! 'Valerie" is my friend jim's car now and is next in line for paint,I drove her for about 6 years before jim and I decided to trade.Valerie gave her heart and kidneys(engine and transmission) for "waggin to live"she now sports a 318 v-8 with a small cam,2 1/4" duals holley intake and carb and a disc brakes up front with big bolt rear axels

I do want the same size tire all around for rotation time and keep a smooth sleeper look. So from what I am reading here is that 205 70 r14 will fit and not rub anywhere ?
Dang waggin!! VALERIE looks nice, What color?, Red.

Looks like the white top has stolen more harts here!

Mike, the white top makes Victoria who she is.If you painted her all same color, she wouldn't look like the same car you fought so hard to own.It would look like you dumped Victoria for her twin sister instead.......lol

65barracudadude
04-28-2009, 12:21 PM
I agree with retsud043, ya just have to leave the white top. It looks so good. And I'm personally REALLY AGAINST the rally wheels. Just because of how original she looks. I dont know, I'd have someone photoshop those on there and see what they look like.

I am seeing what I wanted to in this poll dude, The white top will totally change here paint code and the white top is nice here in Arkansas.
The little skinny 13'' factory wheel and dog caps look real nice and pure on her, But I have got you see and feel some 14'' on her and if the feel and look is not there I can always put them back on. Thank you dude =D>

I say get a set of 14" steel wheels, paint them body color and drive her that way. A guy I work with has a 66 Dart and he got rid of the 13"s for a set of 14"s and he says it made the ride 100 times better. He just painted them and threw on a set of dog dish caps.

Thank you Sid, Know I know what to price, Would you go white letters or black walls ? Red lines would be nice but I don't think that would be the right investment at this time.

Thank you buddy, I think the white top will stay, and I have been looking around on the net and I don't see a lot of white tops around, The white top keeps it factory and cooler here for our long hot summers.
So Victoria will keep her white bonnet, She has a history know and I think it should stay that way :angel5:

I agree with keeping the roof white. Painted two tones rule! As far as the wheels are concerned, keep and use both. I bounce back and forth between rallyes and painted 5.5s with dog dish caps on my '70 340. :thumrigh:
