5.7 Hemi in Dodge Demon w/ power steering

Hey,

I see some threads about guys putting a hemi in there a-bodies. I am planning on doing the same with mine.

Can I run the stock power steering with the hemi with or without headers? If not is there an alternative for using power steering with a hemi in my demon?

Any advice ?

He doesnt mind.....:read2: The demon is sitting idle right now though

As for the OP, the alterKtion will solve any fitment issues and make install 1000% easier, literally. Not to mention the handling improvements.

Bouchillon Performance will be able to answer your question right away.......you will need to adjust the line pressure with the stock box and the GenIII pump. They have these issues worked out

rjsjea, I am going out right now to buy a MegaLottery ticket, if I win I will buy your Demon, finished of course, for $90 Grand. What color is it going to be?

so craig, you find anything out? i was thinking about the 5.7 for my duster but i dont want manual steering and an alterK isnt in the budget just for an engine swap.

Hi

I dont want to say its impossible but i dont see a way it can fit with a stock k frame. My manual barely fits.

Im pretty sure your only options are an alter-k-tion Kframe or some sort of rack and pinion setup. the one guy swapped his spindles around and used a rack from a dakota i think.

why does it barely fit with manual steering? what comes close to the box? i find it hard to believe you can fit ps with a big block and not a 5.7. i understand tti isnt making headers to fit power steering, but there has to be something that will work or made to work. i cant see the block being that close to the steering box that manual would fit but not power. isnt the manual box just shorter than the power? i have both boxes in my cars but its really hard to get a visual idea. i also have a hemi ram but still cant put it all together in my head. im not going to start buying stuff yet, for me manual is not an option. i wil ljust go with a 400. im not going to spend thousadns to stick a modern engine in the car and be primatiove with manual steering. i have 245 tires on the front of my duster, its not a strip car. one guy on here says it should work with some work to some factory manifolds.

The exhaust ports are aimed at a different angle on the 5.7/6.1 as well as the block being shorter and the heads being wider. All this adds up to the #1 tube wanting to occupy the same space as the steering box.

I wanted to put in the large sector shaft manual box but couldn't because it's just slightly bigger that the small sector box. No way a stock power steering box will fit with TTI headers. I didn't try the factory manifolds, but I'm pretty sure they're a no-go also.

i cant remember which guy it is on here, but he said he did fit a factory manifold, i think it was the truck manifold on the driver side, but the truck manifold wouldnt fit the passenger side.

Seems I have heard that too, though I don't recall where I saw that.

In the swap they did in Hot Rod Magazine they used factory Jeep Grand Cherokee manifolds the truck manifolds basically point into the firewall. I have a set of truck manifolds I would give away if someone could use them.

I keep thinking of the SRT 6.1 manifolds in my discussions. Yes, you can use 5.7 manifolds on the 6.1 though they are pretty restrictive in comparison to the 6.1.

GDemon, I haven't seen anyone else use the 5.7 exhaust on a 6.1 engine. What kind of performance are you getting with that combo? Dyno or 1/4 times? I'm sure it is getting lots of grins!

The 2009 5.7 car manifolds share the same exhaust ports as the 6.1. I think they are around 90 dollars at the dealer. Part number 53013848AE 53013849AE

yes, the 09 heads/exhaust manifolds are definitly better than pre-09.

Gdemon, what are the specs on you wheel/tire combo on that Demon? Look to be 17" r's?

I have a 5.7 sitting on an a-body k-frame.. I could probably get some pics of a manual box, and PS box to compare the size/location. I don't think the PS box will fit.

THanks

Yes they are 17. The are from a 2007 300 17" x 17.5". Tires are Falkens 275 50 17 on the rear and 225 50 17 on the front.
