I have a 73 Swinger with a gold vinyl top. It's got some age and some tears. However, it's going to be a while before I can get a Legendary replacement. I want to make the one I have look as good as it can. I've tried some of the big box store name brand vinyl dressing, but it just gets sucked into the grain of the vinyl with little improvement to the vinyl.

Here's a pic of the subject...

Ever have one of those moments? I'm having one right now.

When I bought my '74 there was a new front lower quarter welded in on the passenger side, and a skim of body filler on the driver's side. having gone over most of the car with a magnet, i overlooked the driver's front lower quarter since the car had been a work in progress project when I bought it. (in the previous owner's defense, I don't think they knew what I'm about to tell you either. it was old old repair work)

I had been about 16 at the time and was anxious to drive it, so i sanded till i saw "original" paint, then wet sanded and threw a single stage paint job on the car.

Fast Forward to now (little over 6 years later) I'm getting ready to repaint my car in a more quality job. Figured I'd take the car to bare metal and start fresh, The first thing that catches my eye is a few bubbles on the lower rear quarter. No big deal, I sand it down to find some soft spots in the metal, An easy fix to weld in new metal

I get to the front lower quarter and something seems wrong. I sand through the "original" Frost Mint Green to find body filler under the skim coat... There's no bottom to this filler, I keep wailing on it with a 40 Grit "Annihilator" and I'm pretty sure I'll hit the passenger side tire soon (from the driver's side) when I finally find a spot of metal. Ok i'm thinking it's dented in and can be pulled out and fixed... No! that was just a high spot.

I keep at it, and this is going on up past the lower body line, by this point I can fit my fist between the door & crushed in door jamb/quarter :banghead: :violent1: It looks like the car had been hit hard on the driver's side lower quarter in the 70's, slapped with 60 tons of body filler and repainted in the original color. Other than this surprise damage, the rest of the car is straight as an arrow.

In the morning I'm going to call one of my local friends who's big into A-bodies and see if he happens to have a chunk of quarter panel laying around that I can graft in on my car. there's no saving that section of metal with the way it's crushed in.

Ok- so I am not going to get the 14" slots. Will there be fitment problems with 15" alum slots? Someone posted earlier about the 14's will hit the caliper unless you use a spacer- then it will scrape the fender. Will 15" slots scrape anything without spacers? I may be able to get 15" slots for $50 each. If this keeps up, I will just try and find some 15" Ralleyes and call it a day lol
Any and all help appreciated, and yes- this is a help from another post. Starting over for more opinions lol

I am looking for a radiator with part number 3574636, if it needs recoring that is not a problem. This will fit 1972 A body cars so if you are parting or have parted a 1972 A Body Duster, Demon Dart or Scamp see if you might have one of these.

thanks

Okay I've looked for quite a while for a pair of Seat Latch Knobs. The quality is usually poor to bad. I refuse to spend the $50.00 + most want to sell them at. So I thought I would look at other makes like Chebby, Ferd, Keeahh, Punchiak, Honder, and any others you can think of.. So after searching I found knobs that are a little bigger than the originals, made of steel, and chromed, drilled and a set screw in the metal to hold it onto the seat latch stem.. Here are some pictures as to what it looks like.
The truth is these are "Repops" for 1968 - 1969 Camaro. I saw them on line and figured what the heck, beats a bare piece of metal sticking out. So I bought 2. The cost was $10.95 each. I actually got them off of ebay.. After I went thru the buying process I got an e-mail from the owner of the business. He said if I would have gone to his website the price would have been cheaper. So I looked and they were a buck cheaper.. The website is Heartbeatcitycamaro.com, type in "fold down seat latch knob" and they come right up..
In the pictures I have the latches (which I haven't cleaned up yet..Junk Yard Specials) with the knob laying beside it. The latches that I have the knobs actually fit a little loosely and since the knobs are drilled and tapped close to the end, they slide over the stem easily. I put the latch cover over the latch and put the knob on the stem, tightened it and there is plenty of metal/stem for adjustment.
Just thought I would share, sometimes ya got to do, what ya got to do.....
any ways i tried the o2 socket but no dice... its a 22mm but it wont grab enough of the last to sides due to the cut out so it just expands and spins...

im been sprayin it with PB all day and tapping it with a hammer to try to loosen it up (not hitting the sensor)...

getting ready to weld something to it and go that route...
bummer is that it has a complete crack thru the manifold between the front and rear banks so i really would rather just get a hole manifold... grrr....
Here's my set up- 75 Dart Sport /6 Holley 1 barrel. Plugs, Dizzy cap, rotor and wires fairly new, timing set at 10*

Problem- Engine runs good and smooth until I have to give it a lot of gas under load (like up hill or passing) Under load engine starts to sputter and loose power. Seems to do it more/or worse at higher speeds.

Hello all, this is my 69 Swinger project. This is my first a body, and thanks for all the help already! This started as a pretty rusty no drivetrain 340 auto car with the quarters semi fitted and the trunk pan in when I got it. Its kind of nice because it gives me a clean slate. I probably will be going with an EFI 5.9 magnum and ax15 5 speed for drivetrain, with an autocross/road race vibe. Thats the plan at least!

I know they're good for 69-71 Darts, don't know if the pattern works for 67-68 or not...up to you. BUT, these are in EXCELLENT shape front and back. Most of the clips, even! No arms rests or arm rest bases.

Pic speaks for the condition of both panels, no BS...

Legendary wants $150 for a pair and needs 30+ days to get them to you.

I'm looking for $75 SHIPPED to you, ground 48 state, insured for replacement value...from Tracy, CA

Ok I order some OEM wheels that were refinished and 2 of them have an issue with them. 1 of them where the rim mates up to the drum has rusty looking residue that was cleared over and the other where the little rivets are on the face are noticeably less shiny. What would you do? Would you just keep them and run them as it isn't really a big deal or would you try to get 2 new rims sent to you? They were advertised to like new quality so I am unsure what to do.

Okay, I picked up a Dresser 5HP/80 Gallon compressor last year, and it's been working great, but last weekend I turned it on and it seemed like something was caught in the motor, it would turn for a millisecond, then stop, then turn again and just try to freeze up but eventually run okay.

I finally had time to look at it today due to the snow, and I think the issue is the magnetic motor starter/control. I took the guards off, motor spins by hand easily with no belts on it, but same behavior when I flip the breaker. When I watch it, there is a ton of arcing coming from the magnetic motor control, so I think the contacts need cleaned or the coil replaced.

But, I'm a novice when working with these type of controls, so looking for help. Is it possible to clean the contacts, and if so how would I do it? Same thing for checking or replacing the coil?

The motor control is a GE CR354AC, and I've attached some pictures if it helps.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or instructions!
