I am also running a 3:23 Suregrip and 4-Speed.

I'm considering purchasing one of the Percy Wheelrite. I would hate to spend $1500 to 2K on wheel and tires that may not fit right. It would be nice to take it to the wheel shop and have them do this but most shops I have spoken to don't seem eager to help.

The a body axles don’t show up so often here in Sweden. So far I’ve found these ads (condition “should be fine” according to owners)

8 ¾ 741 housing 3:23 ratio, diff lock = 2010 USD
8 ¾ Formula s 741 housing 3:23 ratio, no diff lock = 1055 USD
8 ¼ with 3:21 ratio, diff lock = around 1290 USD

What should I look for/think about hunting axles? Would you go for any of these?

By the way, here is a video of me with the duster on the strip for the first
time in my life! Lots of fun so it won’t be the last!

I spoke with the kid who owned it, and he said the insurance company was going to write it off if it didn't pass inspection, so he fixed a few things on it, wouldn't really say what though, and now its for sale. I have the guy's number if anyone wants it. He was asking $3200 for it.. He also said he has some doors and hood/trunk lid from a 61 Valiant he wants to get rid of.

The car doesn't run it needs wired up and a Z-bar parts kit.All glass good, outer body panels pretty good with rust in lower pass quarter. Needs floors and trunk floor replaced as well. It's got zero miles and its never even been started. Now here is the problem I have. I wanted to put a comp cam in it to butch it up a bit. Stock hp is only 190. However, comp cams says I can not use the factory vavle springs. These engines have different springs for exhaust and intake as well as different lock groove locations on the valves. Plus two different types of retainers. It sounds like I'm going to have to do the whole damn engine over just to put a cam in. Is this really the case or is comp cams just trying to hose me? I figure someone on here has to have gone through the same bs with one of these pre-magnums. I drive 100 miles round trip for these outings.

Rebuilt front end, now have K member and all other parts to convert to disc brakes, Except for upper control arms. Interior was gutted and floor is ready for carpet. Much body work is done, but pictures of bondo and primer are not a thing of interest. Will post pictures of finished paint when that day happens!

A little history. I completely rebuilt the front suspension on a 73 340 Duster project car. No problems were encountered, as this is my third. Then while looking for a donor car, I found a much better 73 Duster 6 cylinder car, and decided to build it instead of the V8 car. It would be a clone, but I would be a lot of money and time ahead.

The K-member on the V8 car turned out to have issues (it turned out to be bent, along with the front frame extensions) , so I modified the 6 cyl K member for the 340 motor mounts, installed the K-member back in the 6 Cyl car and bolted on the previously rebuilt V8 suspension. All went fine, until I put on the right torsion bar. (the left installed fine) The right bar is fully seated in the lower control arm. When you look at the back of the torsion bar it is beyond flush - it is almost to the point the clip will go in but not quite enough.

Since I have observed in past rebuilds that the torsion bar will go "deeper" into the rear socket as the suspension wears, I am guessing that because these are brand new bushings on the control arm that is the source of the problem. it is also possible that the machine shop didn't get them pressed completely on - and the problem didn't become apparent on the "other" car because of the bent K-member.

It looks like I am faced with two options, one of which is easier. I could disassemble the whole thing and take the lower control arm back for another run on the press. that might work and might not. Or I could spot weld two small beads on the back of the torsion bar to simulate the clip.

I also applied the Demon matte black tail panel decal (barely shows up in pic) before applying the Demon 408 decals. I had the 408 made at the local sign shop. I had them copy the original 340 decal, same font, color and size. Finally got them on the back of the Demon. The rod from the pedal to the Z bar looks way out of whack. It is so far out of alignment on the pedal side that it looks like I need to flip the bar; the mounting hole is offset to one side. But, if I do that the Z bar side will be way out of alignment as that side actually bends toward the Z bar.

I've seen plenty of clutch pedals on A bodies that look like they are bent down a little, and mine looks similar, but not as bad.

Do I have the wrong bar going from the pedal to the Z bar?
Or is there something else going on here?

The bar actually goes right through the center of the firewall hole.

I need this car to drive for the next week while my truck is out of service.

You know, the kind that takes up the WHOLE front driver's side corner of the hood? First off, he gave me a GREAT price. Then he sent me the first rendetion. I wasn't crazy about it. I was polite. LOL He sent me a second design in a different font. the font was PERFECT, but the word "WEDGE" looked akward to me. The third time was the charm. He moved the "WEDGE" where I wanted it and it looks GREAT!!!! Will look even better whenI get her all painted up and the decal applied. Other than the engine there’s nothing too special about the car - it has a bench seat and a 7 ¼” rear axle. The interior isn’t too bad other than rips on the drivers side seat cushion and passenger side sun visor. The vinyl top is almost completely gone, the paint is very thin and there looks to be some surface rust. There are small rust holes in the front fenders at the top and lower portion, the doors have some small rust holes too. Quarter panels have some small rust holes and there’s one in the trunk too but floors and trunk seem solid. He’s going to check out the frame and torsion bar mounting for me, let’s assume they are good for now. So there’s a lot of body work to do plus I know the brake and fuel system will need to be almost completely replaced. The brake work is ok because I would probably put on front disc brakes anyway but the gas tanks and fuel lines I’m sure are wasted. Just bought my wife a 1960 Valiant V200, so I recon I'll be at this site often for advice and a few parts. The car (rather cars - one parts car came with it) is in original condition with about 65,000 miles. Not particularly pretty, but minimal rust on the read quarters and a relatively clean underside. The interior is shabby, and will need some work. I figure with the parts car at my disposal I'm ahead of the curve in bringing this thing back into reasonable shape. The goal is for it to be a 10 foot driver. (looks good from ten feet and drives well). All of the chrome, glass and lenses are still there. The previous owner drove it until recently, but noise from the rear end put an end to that. It sounds like a u-joint to me.
