I am getting ready to start the measuring process for new wheels and tires for my 74 Duster.

The front suspension is off of a 1969 Dart and the 8 3/4 rear is out of a 1966 B-Body. Thus, both the front and rear suspension is wider than the original equipment for a 74 Duster.

My biggest obstacle will be getting the correct back spacing.

Can someone give me a starting point for Wheel and Tire size that may fit? I really want to go with polished solid center lines.
Here is a link...

Need some help and advice on rear axles

Hello. I need some advice on rear axles. I’m an amateur whose been working on a 1970 Plymouth Duster. It’s a low budget project, originally a slant six car. I bought a 273 complete with 727 auto trans for a bargain of a friend. Did the swap this winter and it all turned out really well I’m happy to say. The little 273 runs great, but I still have the old 7 ¼ axle on the car. I’m not sure of the gear ratio, but it is really sluggish, nice on the highway though. But it won’t last long I guess.

The little 273 runs great, but I still have the old 7 ¼ axle on the car. I’m not sure of the gear ratio, but it is really sluggish, nice on the highway though. But it won’t last long I guess.

I´d like to have a lower gear ratio so I can take of faster. And some sort of diff-lock and something that will last behind a smallblock. I suspect I might upgrade to a 340 in the future.

The a body axles don’t show up so often here in Sweden. So far I’ve found these ads (condition “should be fine” according to owners)

8 ¾ 741 housing 3:23 ratio, diff lock = 2010 USD
8 ¾ Formula s 741 housing 3:23 ratio, no diff lock = 1055 USD
8 ¼ with 3:21 ratio, diff lock = around 1290 USD

What should I look for/think about hunting axles? Would you go for any of these?

By the way, here is a video of me with the duster on the strip for the first
time in my life! Lots of fun so it won’t be the last!

Hi guys,

i want to put my new engine together, ordered some engine assembly lube. They told me it´s not available at the moment, other sources told me the same thing. Seems that i can get it only overseas at the moment.

What do you use during assembly? Is there an alternative to these special fluids or just use engine oil or what do you prefer? Please let me know, thank you!

OK, I had to lower the steering column in order to remove/install the instrument cluster. When I went to position the column and install the retaining bolts under the dash I noted the shaft and moved (slid down) and now the lower column cover is hitting the ignition key removal lever. How is this possible?

Please advise!!

While on Vacation ..... going through Arkansas headed to Indiana, ..... we drove up Highway 7 going to Mystic Caverns and drove past what looked like a little community all deserted and overgrown, found out at the Caverns it was DOG PATCH, USA.
. Just wondered if anybody ever went to it when it was up an going?

Looked like a cool place in its time on the You-Tube vids.
............ it was kinda sad to see it all just rotting away:angry7:

I spoke with the kid who owned it, and he said the insurance company was going to write it off if it didn't pass inspection, so he fixed a few things on it, wouldn't really say what though, and now its for sale. I have the guy's number if anyone wants it. He was asking $3200 for it.. He also said he has some doors and hood/trunk lid from a 61 Valiant he wants to get rid of.

Hello, I have a 1965 Dart, and would like to know what doors will fit. I have researched some, and think the 1964 Dart door will fit my 1965, but am not sure. Also, will the Barracuda doors fit? And the front clip from what year Barracudas? I am just fishing to see if I can make my Dart look better. I am not too fond of the front end of the 65 dart. Any help would be appreciated.

I wanted to put a comp cam in it to butch it up a bit. Stock hp is only 190. However, comp cams says I can not use the factory vavle springs. These engines have different springs for exhaust and intake as well as different lock groove locations on the valves. Plus two different types of retainers. These engines have different springs for exhaust and intake as well as different lock groove locations on the valves. Plus two different types of retainers. It sounds like I'm going to have to do the whole damn engine over just to put a cam in. Is this really the case or is comp cams just trying to hose me? I figure someone on here has to have gone through the same bs with one of these pre-magnums. The engine needs to go in a car soon so any and all advice is welcome.

Complete drive line out of my 71 Duster, 60842 miles. You get the Radiator, slant six, 904 and the 7 1/4 which has a sure grip. The price is a complete A Body 8 3/4, condition is important, gear ratio and sure grip are not.

Nothing has been removed so you can hear and drive. I know that the sure grip is uncommon but yes, to even my surprise, it has it.

The car was a rolling chassis with leaves moved in,8 3/4 rear, manuel steering,3.23 gear, 15x3.5 centerlines on the front and 15x10 progressive wheels on the rear.
Anti sway bar questions

I picked up a stock A body anti sway bar for my 67 dart at a swap meet. It did not come with anything other then the sway bar.

It measures 44 inches center of hole to the center of the opposing hole. It does not look like it lines up to where it should. It seems too wide

What is the right size for a 67 dart? could this be a late A body sway bar? How would this connect up? Anybody have pics of their sway bar?

I recently purchased this 1965 Dart GT, and am going to make it a street bruiser, with an occasional trip to Firebird Raceway. It is relatively rust free, except for one quarter where the lip pushed up and collected dirt, not a large area at all, and no rust holes in the interior floor pan. The trunk has a couple small holes in the spare tire compartment, but nothing hard to fix at all. The body has a bit of damage, mostly on the right rear QP, and both front fenders. The interior is trash. Anyway, I will post some pics, and make this an ongoing thing. I need to ask some questions but will do that in the proper forum. Thanks for looking.

Posting more pictures of progress.
Rebuilt front end, now have K member and all other parts to convert to disc brakes, Except for upper control arms. Interior was gutted and floor is ready for carpet. Much body work is done, but pictures of bondo and primer are not a thing of interest. Will post pictures of finished paint when that day happens!

I was driving my 1970 valiant today when there was a loud knock. I immediately put the car in neutral and the engine died. After getting the car home, I tried to restart, but only got a grinding noise. I checked my oil, which had no water iin it. I am thinking that I may have spun a rod. I took my starter off and observed the fly wheel and starter wheel; both still had teeth and did no show any signs of missing any.

The left side is fine, but with the right torsion bar fully seated in the lower control arm, the clip won't quite fit.

A little history. I completely rebuilt the front suspension on a 73 340 Duster project car. No problems were encountered, as this is my third. Then while looking for a donor car, I found a much better 73 Duster 6 cylinder car, and decided to build it instead of the V8 car. It would be a clone, but I would be a lot of money and time ahead.

The K-member on the V8 car turned out to have issues (it turned out to be bent, along with the front frame extensions) , so I modified the 6 cyl K member for the 340 motor mounts, installed the K-member back in the 6 Cyl car and bolted on the previously rebuilt V8 suspension. All went fine, until I put on the right torsion bar. (the left installed fine) The right bar is fully seated in the lower control arm. When you look at the back of the torsion bar it is beyond flush - it is almost to the point the clip will go in but not quite enough.

Since I have observed in past rebuilds that the torsion bar will go "deeper" into the rear socket as the suspension wears, I am guessing that because these are brand new bushings on the control arm that is the source of the problem. it is also possible that the machine shop didn't get them pressed completely on - and the problem didn't become apparent on the "other" car because of the bent K-member.

It looks like I am faced with two options, one of which is easier. I could disassemble the whole thing and take the lower control arm back for another run on the press. that might work and might not. Or I could spot weld two small beads on the back of the torsion bar to simulate the clip.

Any opinions (facts would be even better) on the cause the clip won't fit or suggestions on how to deal with it would be welcome.

Anyone had/have this issue. I am running a 360 mostly stock with 20w50 oil I have excellent pressure at start up, around 60-65 psi. Once I start cruising around and the car warms up it stays around 40-45psi. Problem occurs when I stop at a stop light, oil pressure drops to 10 or sometimes below. I normally put the car in neutral if I get stopped at a light and the pressure will stay around 15-20. Any ideas?

Sooner than later, the car's going to want pipe(s) and a muffler. Anyone got a recommendation for who does nice pipework in the Seattle area?

(I'd better make it there; the day after tomorrow is my 10th anniversary. Other half's already in Seattle by plane; we'll celebrate once I get there. So far pretrip: Remflex manifold gasket, Permaseal head gasket, new exhaust manifold with heat riser that doesn't spin 360° because this one has an actual plate in it, aluminum intake, Dutra oil pump, valve stem seals, ESPO leaf springs, new vibration damper, TSB trans damper, flywheel-type A/C clutch, badly-needed new Evans engine wiring harness, new heater valve, and if I get time, new radio...otherwise it's gonna be a long AM-only drive once I sing myself hoarse.)

The pedal side looks like if I grabbed it from the Z bar side and moved it a little to the driver side it would align.

It is so far out of alignment on the pedal side that it looks like I need to flip the bar; the mounting hole is offset to one side. But, if I do that the Z bar side will be way out of alignment as that side actually bends toward the Z bar.

I've seen plenty of clutch pedals on A bodies that look like they are bent down a little, and mine looks similar, but not as bad.

Do I have the wrong bar going from the pedal to the Z bar?
Or is there something else going on here?

The bar actually goes right through the center of the firewall hole.

I need this car to drive for the next week while my truck is out of service.

I built a dana 60 for my 71 duster from a 70s dodge truck rear end and when the car is coasting it makes a rattiling noise it also gets hot enough where i cant leave my hand on it. I replaced all the bearings and put a dana power lock LSD in it. I didnt change the pinion depth the backlash seems about right and its full of fluid. you guys have any ideas?

Now that the first limited edition FABO shirt is gone... (almost, I still have a few)

Lets talk about what you want on the second shirt. Tell me your thoughts!

Colors - Im thinking a choice of White or Hemi Orange... Thoughts about that too please.

I just saw this - what about this with the FABO logo on the back instead of the modern car?

LOL He sent me a second design in a different font. the font was PERFECT, but the word "WEDGE" looked akward to me. The third time was the charm. He moved the "WEDGE" where I wanted it and it looks GREAT!!!! Will look even better whenI get her all painted up and the decal applied. Even through all three changes, gary didn't change his original quote. Heck of a guy and really fast shipping. I highly recommend him. Thanks, Gary!

The valance is rust free other than some light surface rust on the underside. The valance has no filler and is 90% original paint. There are a few dings on the nose and a few small depressions on both sides. Overall, very easy to fix. Asking $150 plus shipping. I can ship Greyhound or UPS. Drop me an email at java34@gmail.com

Hello,

I am looking for a 273 V8 oil pan to fit on a 65 Valiant. I believe they are the same for 64-66. The pan is the same as a regular 273/318 pan except it has an extra dent on the one side to clear the center link. I need a pan with the dent.

Anyone have one?

I have attached a couple photos so you know what one would look like.

What do you guys think I should offer for a ’66 Valiant Signet two door hardtop that I found? I would like to make an offer that is fair for both the seller and myself but I’m not sure what a fair value would be. I know it’s all about the condition so here’s what I know.
Being sold by the original owner who ordered the car but it has not been running since 1978, he’s looking for offers. It has over 125,000 miles and still has its original 273 commando engine with the exhaust still, it even has the chrome tip on the resonator but it’ll need to be replaced. Other than the engine there’s nothing too special about the car - it has a bench seat and a 7 ¼” rear axle. The interior isn’t too bad other than rips on the drivers side seat cushion and passenger side sun visor. The vinyl top is almost completely gone, the paint is very thin and there looks to be some surface rust. There are small rust holes in the front fenders at the top and lower portion, the doors have some small rust holes too. Quarter panels have some small rust holes and there’s one in the trunk too but floors and trunk seem solid. He’s going to check out the frame and torsion bar mounting for me, let’s assume they are good for now. So there’s a lot of body work to do plus I know the brake and fuel system will need to be almost completely replaced. The brake work is ok because I would probably put on front disc brakes anyway but the gas tanks and fuel lines I’m sure are wasted. I'm sorry I don't have pics to post but there are some on this link ==> http://mysite.verizon.net/vzes9hbq/s...nt-forsale.pdf

Well I just received a set of Sail panels that I have been waiting for 3 weeks! Besides being filthy there is a big crack.

Any ideas on how I could repair this? I was thinking of a plastic patch. I think plastic welding wouldn't to nice.

Just bought my wife a 1960 Valiant V200, so I recon I'll be at this site often for advice and a few parts. Just bought my wife a 1960 Valiant V200, so I recon I'll be at this site often for advice and a few parts. The car (rather cars - one parts car came with it) is in original condition with about 65,000 miles. Not particularly pretty, but minimal rust on the read quarters and a relatively clean underside. The interior is shabby, and will need some work. I figure with the parts car at my disposal I'm ahead of the curve in bringing this thing back into reasonable shape. The goal is for it to be a 10 foot driver. (looks good from ten feet and drives well). All of the chrome, glass and lenses are still there. The previous owner drove it until recently, but noise from the rear end put an end to that. It sounds like a u-joint to me.

feel free to tell me I'm an idiot, or really smart.
