Is anyone using these torsion bars ? I'm considering getting a set to replace my stockers, and the price is certainly right. I plan to set up my car for occasional autocross duty, so a heavier bar is in the plan anyway, but I was wondering if these bars might be too heavy for street use. Any informed opinions out there........????

Thanks,

Mark.

Mark,
Saw a pair on Ebay and was looking for a set for my 71 Demon! Not sure how much stiffer it will make the front end either...James

Based on the diameter and using the chart on Firm Feel's website, these bars sit midway between HD/street and HD/race, at around 220 - 230 lb rate. I just wonder how this correlates to ride feel on the street..........??

Anyone else have an answer to this question ?

I have 1 inch torsion bars on my dart and I really like them. They are defiantly stiff on the street but not that bad, more of a modern car feel I guess. I also have the RCD bilstein shocks and have read they really help to control the bigger bars.

you need to just call dick a Firm Feel. he is a great guy! i have a bunch of his parts on my car, quality stuff. i am about to go in bar size myself and i am dealing with him about it. i am going to go a little bigger so when i lower the car more it will still be firm. my car gets run hard in auto-x,road course and on the mtn roads.

I put 80,000 miles on a set of .99 T-bars from 1993 to 2010. I ran 225/60/15 and 245/50/15. The 50 series was a little firmer. I drove 80 miles back and forth to work through the middle of Los Angeles for 3 years with those 50 series tires setup.

What size tires are you planning on running?

I say run the 1.03.

I gotta get new glasses, at first it looked like sway bars. I'd go for the larger TB's with a good set of sway bars. I don't think it will ride too bad, go to larger wheels (15 inch) and decent shocks and enjoy. I want to upgrade mine this winter.

My wheel/tire plan is to run 225/50-16s on the front (16 x 7) and 245/50-16s on the rear (16 x 8 ).

The fronts would be best with 4.5-5.0" backspacing. If just 4.0" backspacing in the front you may have issues.

X2! Dick is top shelf!

I really like dealing with Dick He is VERY HELPFULL,and will work with you until you are happy. He may be a little slow responding to emails, but there is a 1-800 number and you can talk to him directly.

Im currently waiting for my sector kit to arrive from Dick@firmfeel.

I also have his reinforcement kit for the lower control arms.

These two kits will reduce flex in the k frame and suspension, but wont necessarily affect the ride.

I dont know about the larger bars and ride quality, but you need to know that ride quality can be affected by many other factors like stiff shocks, poly bushings, low profile tires etc, bracing the car with torque boxes and frame connecters can all make the ride much firmer.

I went the other way and lightened my car's nose, thereby making my 318 tbar far more effective.Fibreglass front end, aluminum top end on the motor, relocated battery, whatever you can do to make the front end lighter will also help the tbar act like it's stiffer.

If your really worried about ride quality I'd go with a thinner tbar ,and add in a sway bar front and rear.. This will improve handling without affecting ride quality too much.

did you get these? i'm curious how they feel :profilel:

T recieved my sector kit from Dick at ffi! Good stuff, top notch quality and I can certainly see how it will improve sector shaft stiffness.

FFI also soon will have an idler arm torrington bearing kit to replace those crap rubber bushings, thereby removing even more slop from the factory suspension.

Sector kit.

Pretty soon ffi will have improved the stock suspension so much that aftermarket suspension will be rendered pointless.

....

Who buys idler arms with rubber bushing anymore. There are some with plastic bushings, and those are crap.

Moog and most others idlers have plain metal to metal bushings in them.

I was on the phone with Dick at ffi today and thanked him for his excellent service.I was really happy with the sector kit and I can easily see how it strengthens the sector shaft and surrounding area. Adds in an extra bearing to the sector shaft as well! Thats about as solid as it gets there..Between this, the reinforcement plates for the lca's, and welding the kframe I think I might have a pretty accurate steering set up. I would like to also replace the plunge coupler with a u joint.

The idea of the torrington bearing is to decrease flex and provide an adjustable and torqued idler arm that will last indefinitely. It will likely decrease effort at the wheel a bit too, especially on a manual box!

Ffi are still working on it. And it has been done before, but I knew nothing about it! There was some kind of roller bearing kit availabe for idler arms, but the stock is all long gone. Sorry cant remember the name mentioned in the mopar action article.

I have had my sector bearing in my Dart since Oct and absolutely love it. It was defiantly a noticeable improvement! BTW I welded mine in. Also it's a lot of fun to install with headers..... Defiantly doable though.

Thanks for the follow-up. I bought some 1" bars, not installed yet, good to hear feedback.

I have a set of 1.06 bars coming from Dick as we speak. Hope they aren't to small....

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but i see 1.03 torsion bars are no longer available through PST for A bodies, anyone know why?

Hello,

We have these bars made in the US and we are currently having the next batch made. We are hoping to have them ready in a couple of weeks or so. We have currently sold out on our stock faster than we expected. Sorry!

Thanks
