Bringng the SR-556, the Savage .300 Win Mag, the Sig-Sauer P238 and the Ruger Blackhawk in .45 Colt. The main aim (pardon the pun) is to get the .300 Win Mag sighted in, then continue to get used to the P238 since it's my main carry piece. I won't be bringing the 1911 since I already know it's dead on. :D

The Ruger Blackhawk just came in so I got got to give that sixgun a whirl too. :) The SR is dead on as well, but I want to run a mag through it just to beat my buddy with his sloppy *** AK-47.

This is the range we're going to. Run by all spec-ops guys and 100 yard state of the art indoor range.

You may want to check, according to the page in your link the range is closed for ventilation upgrades!

Might want to call them Joe. Site says the range is closed for ventalation upgrades. It looks like a nice place, have you been there before?

I love going to the range! I demand pictures! Here are pics of some of my collection. A cousin, brother, and grandmother are also pictured!

Dang it!!!!! Rifle range is closed for ventilation upgrades, but pistol is open. Just de-packed the two rifle drag bag and set up again to bring the 1911 with the Sig and Ruger.

Oh well, I suppose I only get to shoot what I need, not what I want. Sure beats a good day at work I suppose..... :)

Yep, a gentleman named Jason answered and explained that they are doing further upgrades to the ventilation on the rifle range. I thought I'd better be polite judging by these guys backgrounds. :) They could probably twist me into a pretzel and have a 45 in my mouth before I could say uncle.

Nice! What scope are you running on the Savage? For my birthday this weekend I'll be taking my new Kahr CM9 out for a good breaking in. I have had the thing for a week but my mom has been holding on to it till sunday. It sucked going to do the ffl transfer knowing I couldn't do anything with it for a whole damn week! LOL!

This is the scope on the Savage, it's a another Burris. http://www.burrisoptics.com/timberline1.html#3x9x It's the 3x9, is very compact, weatherproof, has a long eye relief (important when shooting a rifle in any magnum caliber), is warranteed forever and is made and serviced right here in Colorado. I love the ballistic plex reticle and it comes with a chart as to what cartdrige and grain of bullet = what designated line on the vertical post at what distance. It's mounted in Leupold rings and is (now) rock solid.

The Savage is pretty light rifle (6.5 lbs.) for the .300 Win Mag, hence, it kicks like a mule. First time at the range it knocked the ring base loose so I got it home and re-mounted everything with blue locktite. Next time at the range the action started to work it's way out of the stock. I've got that sorted out (more locktite, lol) so I was really looking forward to getting this sucker dead on. Through all this, the scope itself had zero issues.

Have fun with your Kahr and be safe! My shooting buddy has a Kahr for his main carry piece and he really likes it.

Squeeze off a few rounds for me. I need to get to the range soon myself. MMG

Will do! I'm looking forward to shooting the Blackhawk and getting it sighted in, plus doing some reloading in the future. I had a great little load of 7.2 grains of W231 behind hard cast 255 gr semi-wadcutters that was super accurate in my Vaquero and was realativley light recoiling. I'd guestimate about 900 fps. Just a nice little thumper. I worked up some bear loads too, but I'll save that for later and since this is different firearm, I have to work those up slowly and carefully. They consisted of a 300 gr soft nose jacketed bullet @ about 1300 fps out of a 5.5" barrel. It was a knuckle busting load but the Vaqero handled it no problem. I expect the same from my Blackhawk but it's always wise to carefully work up to those pressures, plus find one that's accurate. I'd rather be at 1250 fps and accurate, than 1300 and not be able to hit a pie plate @ 50 yards.

Sorry, didn't mean to ramble on....

When you get the 6 Gun shooter out take the bulls eye out for me Joe, I am glad you will have a day away from work and enjoy a few rounds of shooting with your friends.
I enjoy the time after Just me and my cleaning gear You will be busy tonight so get some pictures if you can. Enjoy!!!

We had stop going to the range here because they started a sign in sheet and the Range master told us now the BTAF comes and get's the sheets once a month plus you have to show your drivers lic in a scanner ?? The sheet also makes you list all weapons you shoot . I don't think it's right but hay thats what our county is going to.
But I'm not part of the Sheep so good luck to the rest of them when the man shows up at the front door.

Will do Mike! Yeah, I'll be cleaning for quite time tonight. Revolvers are always time consuming due to having to clean 6 chambers. Like you, I enjoy it and it gives me time to check out everything before it might become an issue.

Holy cow! The BATF is checking out range sheets??? Hopefully it's to catch felons with guns.....

Wow Canada has some tough gun restrictions but that is just over the top! :wack:

Great experience last Saturday at the range. The people there were serious but very friendly and willing to share their experience. One gentleman who spent about 20 minutes with us while we asked questions said he had 10 years in the military (he didn't get into detail, so I didn't ask). I got to handle the new Springfield Armory SOCOM II, a variation of the M1A1 that I really, really liked. It was busy so there was about an hour wait, but the time flew as we checked out guns and accessories including a new line of scopes by a company called NightForce. They start at $1800 bucks and are more than I need, but fun to handle nevetheless.

My friend wasn't having such a good day. His Berreta in .40 S&W kept failing to feed,so he switched to his Kahr PM9 which broke after about 3 magazines of ammo. He was just using standard 9mm ball ammo when the recoil spring guide broke. It looks as though it was getting ready to go for quite some time and just let loose that day. This is not good as this is his main carry piece and he was really bummed, BUT... better it happened at the range and not in a situation where his life was on the line.

If any of you own one of these, I'd inspect that guide rod with a magnifying glass and look for stress cracks. It appears they made these out of stamped steel.

I was having a great shooting day, and the only issue I had was a failure to eject with the SIG P238. The Ruger Blackhawk and the Rock Island 1911 performed flawlessly. Here's a 10 yard target from the Blackhawk, standing two hand "teacup" grip but otherwise a modified Weaver stance. I'm left-eye dominant but a right hander so some wonder why my stance looks a little different.

I was using PMC 255gr lead flat round nose bullets .45 LC "Cowboy Load". Yes, that's 6 rounds.

WOW!!!!!! That must be one heck of a scope $1.800 :glasses7:
I am glad you had a great day and updated this thread, I had to jump up at about 6pm Saturday and throw a couple rounds of game shot into a tree top just a few yards from my front porch to run 3 strays off the hill that I have never seen before :angel3:Buddy looked like a bull scratching and barking at them...... Know I get to clean my 870 magnum up  I won't take it all down but I forgot all about that till I seen this thread this morning :D

Know that's a perfect grouping right there  I am left eyed to and it made smacking a baseball easy right handed :D

The guy told me that the one of the owners of Blu-Core swears by that scope and used it in active duty overseas. ;)

Thanks Mike and glad to see you've got an eye out over the hill. Having buddy as an extension of your senses just makes your reach that much longer too!

I have no issues being left eye dominant Mike except for one thing... I can't hit the broadside of a barn with a right hand bow and arrow, lol!

I never even had to touch the sight adjustment on the Ruger... Whoever assembled that revolver got it right. Another thing I noticed is that Ruger's build quality seems to have improved quite a bit since the last few I had. I disassembled it like I do all my guns when I first got it and there no machining chips or other garbage in the action. The trigger pull is awesome and the cocking mechanism is as smooth as glass. Maybe I just got lucky and got a ringer, where all the tolerances were just perfect?
