I messed up my lower control arm bushings huh?

I just spent half the day cutting the outer sleeve of the old bushings out of the lower control arms. Then I pressed the bushings into the control arms. After that I remembered this page saying you'll ruin them by doing them that way because you can't just press the pivot shaft in there without ruining the rubber.

Since I already pressed the bushings in, I have to remove them, buy a new pair and press in the pivot shafts to the new bushings before pressing the bushings into the arms right?

If there is a way to get a support under that inner sleeve so it doesn't move you can press the pins in.
 
You MIGHT be able to pull this off if you can come up with a scrap piece of pipe or socket that will support the inner sleeve by itself.
 
It's done this way ALL THE TIME. Find a piece of pipe, a socket, etc. that will support the inner sleeve while you press the pin in.
 
Thanks guys, I stuck a 3/4 socket in there with a nut behind it and they pressed in fine.
