**Twin Turbo 67 Dart Project**

-
It has been so long since I built mine, I can't remember. I just know when I ordered my bearing sets and rebuild kit I told them it was a big bearing for a bronco. Hmmm I must be getting old.

Since I am changing to the 9" Ford Rear end, I figured I would change up the link set up and use Chromoly Heims this time with Chromolly Tubes. I bought all the pieces from A.R.T , the tubes have Chromoly weld in bungs. The tubes are long enough to cut to length. The lower tubes are 1 3/8's and the uppers are 1 1/4. Both are .095 Wall. The Heims are 3/4 thread with 1/2" Bolt Holes.

I made a little bit of progress today. I ended up pulling the 3rd Member and got it ready to ship out. All the measurements for the Brackets are done and I made some templates out of Chip Board. I bought a 18x18x1/4" Chromoly Plate that will get cut up to make the brackets. I did the Instant center calculations today also. The bottom bar will have 4 adjustment points Front and Rear. The top bar will have 3 adjustment points on top of the housing and 5 adjustment holes in the front. This will give me plenty of adjusting of Instant center from 18" off of the Rear tire to out past the front bumper in 6" or 12 " increments. The Instant center off the gound is adjustable from 5", 8", 12" etc up to 3' or so with all the combinations. My Initial set up will be about 1' back from the front tire either 5" or 8" off the ground and I will play with it from there.

I put a big fill cap on today and a drain plug also. The back brace will go on after all the Bracket Tabs, then everything will get welded off. The housing ends will go on last with the use of Housing End Jig. Waiting on the new link bars and Heims to get here. Along with the New 9" 3rd Member. Making little bits of progress which is better than nothing.

Get after it Louis.

Yeah I'm trying. Just figuring out the Instant Center and where to mount and drill the brackets so I have plenty of adjustment took at least 5 Hours today. Alot of head scratching, measuring and re measuring was going on. It is over now. Just need to fab up all the brackets. After the Housing ends are on I will order the new 35 Spline axles, bearings and seals.

Nice job bud..... finding center seems tricky on these b/c if the offset...

That looks vaguely familiar. LOL

Looks good John. I was going to do a 4 Link like that. I ended up calculating how low my car is going to sit and the upper front link bars were going to be up past the floor board into the car about 4" or so.

I'm just trying to remember why I didn't weld in a cap and drain plug. :banghead:

Yeah no more pumping that oil in there. It gets tiring. No more cracking the gasket on the 3rd member to drain the oil, removing the axles, dropping the 3rd member to replace the gasket. This is the Fat Mans easy way out.
The Oil fill doubles as an inspection hole also.

Why not just put Dana ends on the 9"? Use same brakes and axles? 35 splines axles are all the same aren't they?

So how much money do you have into the motor again?
How much into the the whole project?

destined for Barret jackson later?

keep up the good work

Thanks Justin!

Motor is about 10K with Everything, ECU, EFI, Intercoolers etc. Alot of what is spent here is my labor. Trans 2500.00, Rear end Swap $2000.00 with brakes. Swapping to the Ford 9" is going to be a wash except Labor.

I got about 20K in it so far if I am being honest and that includes the 2K I paid for the car. I probably got another 10-12K or so to finish it with Paint as long as I don't go in a different direction. I need to stick to the plan now. I was thinking to possibly
put a custom hood on it using the stock Cuda scoop inserts that are almost flat with the hood. I seen someone else do that and
it looks pretty cool.

I could pay someone to finish the car to speed up the process but I enjoy messing with it myself. It is a stress reliever for me. Hopefully I will be ready for paint before summer is over..... Knock on wood!!!

I won't be selling this one anytime soon.

LOL It's an awesome car. I see no incentive to sell it.
Keep crackin' at it!

Well I have been receiving some parts lately. I got the Link Bars, Heims, Back Brace & 3rd Member.

I bought some chip board and made some templates of all my brackets so now those need to be transferred to the Chromoly Plate I bought and cut out.
My buddy Pete let me use his Housing End Tool Jig so I will be ready to put it all together once I get the brackets all cut out.

The 3rd Member has 3.50 Gears, 35 Spline Spool, Yukon Case, Daytona Big Bearing Pinion Support, Billet Steel 1350 Pinion Yoke with U Bolts. It should work out well. I painted it Satin Black with some Engine Paint I had laying around.

That is purdy. What brand gear set did you go with? I think that I have a 9" 3.50 gear set in the garage from when I swapped out to 3.89's.

Richmond Gears 8620 Heat Treated. The Spool is 4140 Heat Treated Moly that has the Scalloped Design.

Nice piece and glad you went with the billet yoke and 1350 u-joints. I know about breaking yoke bolts and seeing sparks at night time.

Hey MadDart, I have question, I was just checking out your coilover converison and stock kmember, I was wondering, where did you get it, and do they make it for the b-body cars

:eek:ops: I forgot to finish what I was going to say, I was checking your lower control arms, an was wondering wher you got them, an do they make it for B-body cars, they are really nice pieces an would look good on my RoadRunner, Thanks again

I think the coilover is Baddart,a member here. He makes upper, lower control arms,j bar and rad support bars, lot's of stuff and it's all good! I have his jbars and rad support. Go a long ways towards stiffening up the front structure!
