ive held many carburetors through the years and never have i seen one that defaults to wide open throttle???....this is a 1969 model....so basically if the throttle return breaks it could be a bad situation for an inexperienced driver that doesnt shut the ignition off. anyone know if this is a oem design?
 
Mine does that too. I just put another spring on and the kickdown lever helps hold it shut.

Agree on that....fyi if you have your old steel mixture screws use them. The garbage brass ones are too soft. Mine was broke!!
 
Just a point to consider... When the carb is all disconnected and in your hand the little spring in the accelerator pump can move the rest of the carb parts. Attach a throttle cable and throttle pressure linkage. That little spring doesn't seem so strong anymore.
