New for less than original? Classic Industries has new ones for $200.00, I think I'll just be better off retrofitting a universal 3 3/8" tach into my dash. Also, SLeepr64, It censored the phone number :/

You need to specify the year you want. For instance 1967 Barracuda tachs are different than 1968 & 1969. They don't come along often, but when then do they start about $175.

The repo tachs at Classic go 0-8000 RPM, and they are built with better electronics to handle different types of ignition systems.
 
Here's a repro Classic Industries tach in my 70 Swinger.

I took these pics to illustrate the how the green LEDs light up the speedo and fuel / oil / temp / ammeter gauges, but you can see just enough of the tach to get the idea. Incidentally, the tach gets lit up a little brighter than anything else.

The font on the tach's numbers don't look 100% perfect in comparison to the factory original speedo, but it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I'm sure the judges at Pebble Beach would dock me some points, but I say screw them!

Not sure about the originals as I don't have one of those, but the reproduction ones aren't that great for accuracy. I have one in my Duster, not really impressed with it's function. When I pull the dash to convert to LED's I'm going to replace it with a 3 3/8" autometer tach. Can't be worse.

When i first received it was suspicious of the quality of the in-dash tach. It just didn't look like a really nice piece. I left my Autometer Sport Comp in place after I installed the in-dash tach last winter, and from what my eyes could tell they both reacted the same. I was just stationary and revving up the engine in park, but it didn't seem lazy or slow compared to the Autometer, so I removed the Autometer. Once spring arrived and I was actually driving the car I was able to confirm that it reads exactly the same as the Autometer at steady speeds.

If I had someone else install the tach I'd be super happy with it, but having installed it myself and seeing how cheap it looked it still bugs me a little!
 
I've seen only 1 retrofit in a rally dash and man what a hack job. That tach had its own housing, lens, and lamp, and 2 adjust stems sticking out the back of it. OEM inst' housing and bezel were butchered to ruins. To top it off, the tachs wiring had shorted to the column support so it was scrapped also. That was a very ancient retrofit of the totally wrong type of instrument. There may be other brands/types of aftermarket tach today that are better suited for this.
200 for a unit designed especially for this "limited" application ( bolts right in ) and it works with modern ignition systems too, versus buy 3 or 4 something differents to determine which is the better retrofit?
By the way... In correcting that rally dash for the new owner, I put a OEM performance indicator ( vacuum gauge ) in his center pod. If he has a tach today its mounted somewhere else.
