I was on summits site about to order my gasket set for my 440. I noticed it comes with composite head gaskets and I remember taking off steel. The summit one says it takes up .040 compressed. and the steel takes up .020

I am cleaning up all my tin for paint and I have 187 and 669 Pan. Is one better than the other?? The 187 is in better shape.
One of them is going on my 78 motorhome 440 (effectionatly nicknamed chub)
I will go measure again but I am pretty sure it's correct. Most of the "smogger" 440's were over .100 in the hole. This engine on paper has only 230hp and 340 ft lbs of torque.
That same paper says it has 8.2:1 compression but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a bit lower than that.
