Ok, so im writing this as I wait for the tow truck so please disregard any typos. I searched this amazing forum and found four threads listed the same but my issue is a little different.
Everything was fine, I stop at the gas station fill up and start the car and hear the starter still going...
They were only talking about knurling the guides because it would cost about $65 for the set as opposed to over $200 to replace them.
I got another place that I am going to give a shot on Monday.
Cudavert you say this because of the larger combustion chamber? From what I see the heads I have now are 57-64cc while the numbers for the above are 64-71cc.
Got word from my local machine shop. Heads are shot. Need complete work, new valves, guides and the seats are sunken. So im looking at alternate ideas. Earlier someone said if I went with eddy's I would have to modify my block for the valves to clear. I have since discovered that the cylinders...
I have a 66 Dart 273 convert as my daily driver. It has 40 over flat top pistons with hydraulic lifters (and I assuming hydraulic cam as well).
I took my heads (920's) off my small block 273 and the machine shop said they are completely worn and will need new valves, guides need to be rolled...
Sweet! So my 273 has the good 920 heads, is overbored 40, this is nice... I'm guessing it doesn't have a stock cam, can I ID the cam with it still in the engine?
I just removed my 920 heads off the 66 273 dart. I'm trying to thread to help id the pistons. They have 4 valve reliefs and say 040 on the dome. I'm really mostly curious what the 040 means and it there is any way to tell if they are stock
Victory! Just when I thought I was going to go on a rampage I managed to get it. We unbolted the exhaust manifold and used a crowbar to lift it up about two inches and that was just enough to get my socket wrench under the manifold and onto the final bolt. Both heads are off and will be at the...
Thanks for the input, im gonna try at it today after work. Sorry for the mix up I have stock exhaust manifolds, I wish they were headers. And yes the manifold is unbolted from the head. Today I'll try andlooden the manifold at the collector and see if that helps then jack the engine up like a...
I should have been clearer. I can get all the bolts of the heads except for the bottom center head bolt. The exhaust manifold get in the way. Thats the bolt i gotta get off. Its torqued on tight enough and at a strange angle that i just can't get it off. Hoping for some trick to get that bolt off
I gave a '66 273, with power steering. Block number 2465330, head number 2658920. I managed to get the passenger side off with out too much trouble, but this driver side is causing some troubles. My hands are bloody and bruised so before I started breaking things I thought I would ask ya'll for...
possibly ou812 but I prefer to work locally when I can. Just got the block number, 2465330. I have the passenger side head off but am having some serious trouble with the driver side head. I'm gonna start another thread looking for ideas on best way to remove the head.
