How to fix ring and gear pattern?

you need to move the drive pattern up on the gear , you have too much toe ( towards inner part of tooth ) in the pattern so you have to subtract from the shim thickness , take out .003 from the pinion shim thickness and try again and keep doing that until you arrive at a proper pattern. you will...

What are you using for 8 3/4 pinion seal?

when you do find these antique leather seals and you want to use them , you are supposed to soak them in the oil used in the application e.g. rear axle fluid for differential seals and engine oil for rear main side seals or timing cover seals before installing the seal , this allows the leather...

    Spider gears

why do you want to change from 2.93 to 2.76 gear , only about 180 rpm's difference ,, really not worth the time or the money to do it.

    8 3/4 Gear pattern

for a used gear set the pattern is right on ,, should be no issues if you had to run it ,,, but why someone would grind on the pinion that way is beyond any reasonable reason , save the shim under the pinion head bearing for your next set up , add this gear set to your scrap bin.

by chance was the axle overfilled with gear oil ,, had a similar issue with a rebuilt complete 9 inch axle i sold , all seals were leaking , turned out the customer overfilled the the unit ,,, not the 5 pints required. pull the fill plug with the car level to see if any leaks out. if not check...

    Early 7.25 Pinion Preload Shims

the early 7.25 axle you have uses pinion bearing preload shims that ranged from 0.074 - 0.106 which are pretty much obsolete now - closest shim pack is for a Dana 44 used in Jeep applications which have an O.D. of 1.450 and an I.D. of 1.140 so you would have to open up the I.D. a bit. this...

    Gear Pattern Opinions Please

your gear pattern is perfect ,, leave it alone ,, every 8.8 i've ever done using Ford factory gears rolls the same type pattern when set up correctly. as long as your pinion bearing preload is correct as well as your carrier bearing preload you are good to go. total width of both carrier...

    Fresh third member setup question

yes a properly rebuilt differential will have some resistance when turning ,, this is due to the preload on the pinion bearings as well as the preload on the carrier bearings ,, your gear pattern is perfect leave it alone ,, your backlash is on the low side but after you make a few runs it...
