next concern is making sure the oil seal can press in.
Read one comment that someone with this aftermarket intake ruined a few because the diameter was too small.
the seat diameters on both seem to be close so ill take my time pressing it in if possible.
Update: Didn't get anywhere with Mancini.
I've found OEM covers that would work on ebay as a back up, As well as a source here.
I've been measuring and test fitting my OEM cover and the NEW one. All the bolt holes line up, the crankshaft seems center in both openings visually. The only issue is...
Yeah that manufacture must have bulk produced the covers and they are sold all over. Figured that out after I got mine and started researching after the fitment issue.
I already painted it. It may be wall art now.
I'm gong to shave a bit off of it (1mm or so) to see if it could fit.
I did find a few on eBay to consider.
thanks
Yes sir, that was pretty much the response from them. No tech was available to talk to.
I did follow up today with a winded email, including this thread and full information and photos.
I did state the cover is not a direct replacement for a 71-72 318 LA OEM 2951698 COVER and would machine...
I tried it with a placeholder gasket and prying the cover down from both water-jackets it was just off to get a bolt started.
I think if I just shave a bit it will fit. everything else looks to align and the crankshaft does center in the front seal.
Well see after I shave it with a grinder.
The mancini specs state it will fit all. 273-360
But, after looking around online its is the same cover offered by every single autopart site.
Fits: Small Block 273/318/340/360 & V6
With 9.600" Standard Deck Height, Raw Aluminum
Note: This is a late model timing cover. Early engines have a...
I'm going to clean up my original and glob up the water jackets with RTV adding to what was there when I popped the cover off.
I'll go the grinding route on the oddball aftermarket to see if I could make it work.
I did call Mancini. They stated it is a direct fit from original molds but "aftermarket reproduction" so there could be differences. I figured atleast the tolerances would be the same since Mancini was stocking it.
One thing I have found out is that this casting is being offered in all the...
In the middle of a timing chain replacement. 1971 318 LA block.
I purchased a new timing cover for my Duster from Mancini racing because the OEM cover has bad corrosion at the water jackets and about to penetrate cover in many areas to the internals of the timing chain.
With the new cover...
I used a camera bore scope to inspect things and I've rotated the engine to visually check for wear also.
I had some misfire at idle develop and that lead to this teardown. I've had the push rods out and check the lifters also.
The timing chain slack seems to be the issue. I could rotate it 10...
I don't have the intake off currently and man I wish i would have sealed the threads I have two that leak a small teaspoon of oil every now and then. Maybe I can loosen slightly and get a small amount on the threads while its cold
