carter carburators

No, Holley did not buy out Carter (and if you have a "holy" carburetor, that's between you and god! )

There is nothing such as a "good remanufactured" carburetor; remans are junk. See links on the topic from this post. The Carter name still exists; you can still buy Carter fuel pumps and such, but Carter carburetors are no longer made. The "new" BBDs you see all over eBay, usually described as "high top" or "low top", are very poorly made Chinese knockoffs. I obtained one and took it apart -- what a damn joke. I would not put one of these on a car unless I wanted it to catch on fire.

You might find a New Old Stock BBD, or if your '72 still has an original carb and not an abused "remanufactured" item you can send it to a reputable carb specialist such as Buzzard Carburetor or The Old Carb Doctor for refurbishment (which is a great deal more thorough than just rebuilding), or you can swap on a direct-fit brand-new Holley 2280 such as this one.
thanks dan...i like the idea of a new carb, less down time.this is a direct fit,no linkage ,fuel line or air cleaner mods. ? if so i am going that way,as of old carb. it's reman put on in 90s by frist owner,i sent to carb junkies for repair,i 'm not happy, may send it to buzzard.thanks
