First things first....When a DA sander runs off a small, 25 year old Craftsman compressor you run the risk of catching the compressor on fire (yes, it caught FIRE)...

The bright side, though, is it opens up room for a bigger, better compressor...

With the new comp I was able to actually sand down to some bare metal. I was starting to think I had a quarter made entirely of bondo. I also tried some chemical remover in a couple of spots to see how it's gonna work. I really got it for hard to reach places or places a sander can't realy get into..i.e drip rails.

Also got the rear valence off. Used a spot weld drill bit from harbor freight, it worke great. The super, duper space aged sealant they used was an entirely different story. The best way we found to get it off is with a freaking air chisel.

All in all things are going pretty good for a couple of rank ametures. We haven't started welding anything yet though....lol.

More in a few days. Next thing we're gonna do is cut the quarter and attempt to weld in a patch panel....BE sure to say the Shepards prayer for us,

'Lord, please don't let me F$%^ this up!!'

That'd be Alan Shepard, the first American in space, just before the launch of his spacecraft 'Freedom 7'.
