Got a line on a stock rebuilt 400 for $650 ...worth it? Not sure what the manifold is but here's a pic

I would say. I gave 400 for one without intake. Some people seem to find deals on blocks, but I had a hard time finding one in good shape to build my stroker.

Looks good. But anybody can make one look good. Are you buying it as a good engine or a core? Unless it can be proven to be a good engine, the price is high, IMO. If it cannot be started and run, it is just a core. That is a high price for a core.

Guy said he just got it back 6 months ago from the machine shop after a rebuild ...can't remember if he said it came with a charger or challenger .....while it was at the shop he found a 440 to drop in so this has been sitting ...said he paid $1200 for the basic rebuild. Who knows

He should have receipts to back it up. If he does not and you cannot hear it run, IMO, it's a core.

I agree with RRR. btw, the intake looks like one of those Weiand with the horrendous bolt clearance pinch on the inner runners.

No matter what..........TALK HIM DOWN, its merely a core at this point, walk in with $500 cash, show him $450 of it. He shows you all the paper to say he had it at a machine shop then pull out another $25 to add to the $450.....You know how to play the game!

Thanks ...waiting to hear back from him .....

All else fails, pull a head, next best thing to paper work. If he won't let you pull a head it's a $100.00 core with a DuPont over haul (fresh paint).

Yeah, but you know......and I forget which one it was, one of the magazines did flow tests on intakes and those pinches didn't hurt flow at all. I am like you, I would think it wouldn't be a good thing, but the flow test showed differently.

Yup. That's exactly where I was goin. lol

Not wanting to hi-jack but what's a 71 400 block just back from magging at the machine shop worth?
