What are the first 10 digits of the VIN on this 820 SPD Duster?

I believe to have read somewhere, that this innovation was necessary because of 'structural weakness' and therefore deformation of the trunk lid when closing...but I'm not sure about this explanation.

Correct on the reason for the spine. The spine appeared during the 1971 model year. Early cars had the non spine decklid.
