What are your favorite So Cal road trips?
I like driving ...not going to a museum and parking it....
Also I like one day trips where I'm back home in my own bed at the end of the day...

There's always the 1 and 101 ocean drives...love them!
San Diego down the 5 is nice too.
Sometimes I just like to cruise around local...maybe drive around Monrovia where I grew up and drive down memory lane. .....

Big Bears is always a fun cruise.

What are your favorite So Cal road trips?

Jeff

So Cal?
None of them, as the farthest south I would go was Santa Barbara if I had the choice. :D
Morro Bay to Santa Cruz was one of my favorites, but then I would head inland and go on up through Lake Tahoe and hwy395 into the Sierra Nevada Mountains with all it's narrow little roads through the National Forest and then back over to hw1 along the coast.

There's some cool drives down here in the lower half...
About as far North I go is Solvang. ...that's a fun drive! Used to do that in my Stingray a couple times a year. ....

Jeff, I wish I could say, but the closet I've ever got to So. Cal. is watching Jim Rockford in his Firebird. I would love to see though. I've been to Washington state and drove Oregon coast. Loved it!

That is a beautiful drive!!!
I bought my Cuda in Oregon and drove it home 900 miles....alone in a car I just met!
Fond memories of that drive!

Highway 126 to Ventura.
Malibu Canyon to County Line.
Topanga Canyon.
Anywhere along the coast.
Sunset blvd.
Van Nuys blvd.
Bouquet Canyon loop to Castaic lake.
Just a few.

Castaic Lake sounds like a good one !

never been to California, but I like to drive where traffic is low.

I was just down there yesterday -- close to Santa Monica. Every time I go I just wonder how the people that live there put up with that traffic every single day.

That's another point....a good drive that avoids "most" of the congested areas.....hard to find but not impossible. ...........

Jeff

Angeles Crest Hwy is really nice. I did it quite a few time when my son was working at a camp up there one summer but never in a powerful car. Only my old 4 cyl. Dakota.

I also like going into O.C. and driving the coast, going up through Laguna Niguel and taking El Toro/Santiago Canyon back into Orange. Lots of curves! Or reverse the direction. Palos Verdes is also cool.

Mulholland!!! Even Jay Leno drives like a beast on Mulholland. :D

But seriously, you have to drive the Mulholland highway. Spectacular views, great corners, and it's pretty well known that everyone goes out there to flog their cars through the corners. Best NOT to go on the weekends. During the week traffic is much lighter and encounters with knee-dragging motorcyclists are fewer.

And it will dump you out in Malibu, which has spectacular canyon roads to drive twisties. Topanga Canyon, Kanan-Dume, Piuma, Las Flores Canyon, they're all crazy. Best is Tuna Canyon though, especially the lower, one way only section that dumps back to the PCH. I'd run up the PCH in my '56 Austin Healey 100 from UCLA, then hit Las Flores to Schueren Rd, to Saddle Peak, and then drop back down Tuna Canyon. Have your brakes in good shape for that one.

I said don't go to Mulholland on the weekends right? Yeah, don't go on the weekend.

Frazier Mountian Park Rd to Ojai. Start at the 5 and take Frazier Mountain Park Rd to Lockwood Valley and head West (left turn) and head to Hwy 33. Really fun I have not do it in a long time. Hwy 138 from the 5 to the 15 is great in the spring when the poppies are in bloom. You can take a couple of side roads too and mix it up. Like Elizabeth Lake Rd to Lake Hughes. I also like to the 74 from Lake Elsinore to San Juan Capistrano. If you like the Highway 76 from Temecula to Julian in SD County is fun as well and then head West back to San Diego.

I forgot about that one...it IS a great drive!

My Cuda should be back on the road by August.....I'm thinking about planning an all Mopar Southern California cruise....

Any interest?

Jeff

I lived in Marina Del Rey a long time back and loved the coast and the atmosphere, the people, not the air. Visited Chino a few years back and quickly found that my favorite road in Southern California was to go to Barstow and take 40 East till I can exit in Kernersville, NC. This is home now and I enjoy being here. I do have a dream of taking highway 66 into Santa Monica in my 65 Barracuda once I complete it.
I love Southern California and wonderful memories from there, but I like calling North Carolina home

I am still working on my car. I am hoping for a "after SEMA" for the initial start up. So don't hold your breathe... I will go as soon as I can. I am building the car for long haul touring. I want to do the Power Tour with my son next summer.

I lived in the area so long ago it was affordable. I had an apartment in marina del rey, and I am certain someone will say it isn't true, but I paid $210 per month and was overlooking the beautiful Marina bay. I worked at 1440 Santee St. In downtown L.A. I believe that was 1974. There are a lot of beautiful roads to cruise there. I would love to come back to the area, but can't afford the prices there anymore.

Are any of you old enough to remember The Big Mac super club. Get a big mac, fry, and drink and enjoy some great groups practicing before going on the road after a time at home. I loved riding my bike on the beach. The first time I was riding through Venice Beach they were protesting the closing of a nude beach. Everyone was wearing fig leafs taped to the appropriate places. I wrecked my bicycle looking at the women.
I can't make this stuff up.
Someone confirm my story.

I can honestly say I don't remember that!

There was a burger place that I would love to go back and eat. I think it was called Charlie's burgers and was just as you would leave the Marina going into Culver City. I can't remember the street, though. Close to Sepulveda Blvd though

Awesome Jeff. Have a great time and remember we love pictures
