Hi guys

i'm picking up a 70 A833 non-OD 4 speed trans on sunday for my 68 Cuda with 8.75 rear axle. i'm trying to get a driveshaft (Dynotech) built in time for Dream Cruise, and the guy needs the length of the output shaft 930 spline) out of the back of the 833 a body tail.
I'm short on time and couldn't get an answer from the seller so far so I'm asking here, Does anybody know the length of the output shaft?
I am getting a 43.5" center to center 3" diameter driveshaft, with 1350 u joints and 30 spline yoke. I think the driveshaft guy at Dynotech needs that length to make sure the yoke and driveshaft length are all good.

Thx in advance guys

What dimension do you need? Factory c to c is 48.6 inches for a 68 Barracuda with manual transmission.

That's what the chart says, same as for 727-8.75 but a buddy measured his driveshaft with this setup (727-8.75) at 43.5" center to center...

What i actually eed is how much the output shaft sticks out the back of an A body A833...

A 727 and an A "AAAAAAAAAaaaaa!!" body four speed ARE NOT the same length

A904 and A body A833 same length

A727 and A833 B/C/ pickup etc body are same length.

I can't help you on the rest

You are in too much of a hurry. The driveshaft length is plus or minus so much, you could very well end up doing it twice and still missing the Cruise
But I found

looks correct.
Good luck

I have one, but it has small U joints, which doesn't fit my new setup with the 8.75 rear end.

There is a hybrid U-Joint that you could get to work, but I'm with you. By the time you cobble that all up, you might as well get what you want.

Well the thing is if it would get him down the road "now" it might be worth a shot until he can get a "big" shaft made

Agreed, that is why I mentioned it. That way he can make an informed decision. It would still mean getting a small joint 30 spline slip yoke and the special Combination U-Joint.

I thought about it too but from my past experiences building cars and upgrading them, takign them to the track etc, II find it's better to do the thing right, once, rather than going 2-3 intermediate steps, especially for the wallet ahah.

As I managed to measure and confirm the length, I've had one made by Dynotech in Clawson MI with 1350 joints, 30 spline yoke and 3" diameter. picking it up tomorrow morning :)

I have 2 drive shafts. one from 1972 dart , 318, 727 it is 48" from center of u joint to center of u joint . yoke is 7"
the other is from in A body with A833 but long tailstock. it measures 44.5" center to center of u joints. Also has 7" long yoke.
So I'm wondering that if you know the center to center length you may just need a standard 7" yoke unless the short tail tranny uses a different yoke?

I got the driveshaft built at Dynotech and test-fitted quickly on the car before the dream cruise. I didn't make it to the cruise in the end but the 48.6" shaft with a 6" (approx...) yoke fitted all nice under my car with the 833 and 8.75 setup :)

I've put together, in a cleaner way on Microsoft Word, the driveshaft length list that was available online. I'll post it here so it is available to everyone.

nice, sorry to hear you didn't get there. that's been the story of my summer every since the 727 went for a crap. I have been trying to get mine together before summer ends.

I almost made it, the car is ready for everything mechanical, but I wanted to finish the body properly and got reluctant to putting new suspension parts on the body in its current state... So my buddy and I just decided to take the last 2 days off and just have fun on Woodward :p. Definitely worth it, and I'll do the cruise next year!
