I like the 20" long pistol grip handle from 1970 B-body. Installed one in my 68 Valiant, all shifts fine but 2nd gear hit the steering wheel. I made this offset shifter to solve the problem. The body and levers are original A-body shifter, I swap the main-tower for the offset one. It's been bench test, shift firmly and smoothly.

I have not installed in the car yet. If anyone want to try, deposit $100 PayPal and you can test fit, test drive for 2 months, and I would love to hear your feedback. If you like it you can keep it; if it dont fit or you dont like it, I will issue full re-fund.

That looks like a nice piece if you want a pistol-grip.

I made a similar looking adapter from a piece of 1/2" thick steel, but with more offset so I could use an available Hurst stick. Keeps the shift knob off my knee even in reverse, and I have plenty long enough arms for 3rd/4th ;)

What are you using for a shifter boot? The stock one definitely won't work with my setup.

At 2nd gear the grip handle barely hit steering wheel. Here the pics of 70 B-body pistol grip in my 68 Valiant, with the original A-body shifter. (I have not tried my new offset-shifter yet)

At 3rd gear:

This is approximately 3" offset. What stick you're using? All factory handle knob seem lean toward to driver, but the pistol grip lean up front.

I have not tried it in my car yet, but this 8x9 inches boot should work:

This is what I made so far. I should have had one less inch of offset, but I have long arms and it never hits my knee even with legs relaxed sideways :)
Got some ideas over on Moparts too. I may have to make a leather bag that looks like one of those old-fashioned wine bags ("stomach-shaped")...

I seriously have to do something like that with mine. At 6'6" tall I'm hitting my legs and knees with the shifter conatantly.

I moved my shifter guts back (between the buckets),and up,and over to the passenger side a tad, and use a stick about 8 or 9" tall; Kinda like a Viper. Yeah all new rods was a given;no biggie.Once you do this, you'll never go back to the factory location. It wouldn't work with a factory bench tho.

Pics? Sounds cool.
