Budget racers quickest stock piston and head motors

Ok let me re phrase. Stock internals (Pistons, crank, ect) and factory iron heads. Stock long block. Can be bored but if you slap in some kieth black Pistons with a different compression height it doesn't count. Did that clear it up?

Mine is a 1980 reringed 360 stock long block. Stock cast iron manifold. Holley 600 vac secondary carb. Gutted out d150 with a 4.10 spooled 8 3/4 on 29 inch slicks. Weighs 3300 without me in it. Stock rockers and push rods. Comp 274deh cam. 727 with a trans go full manual shift kit.

Got it.

Car is slow for what it is. Sounds like the truck is fighting itself. That thing should be in the 12s easily. if you are dead set on staying with the combo as-is, you need to start verifying stuff.

Make sure the throttle is opening all the way and the floats are set correctly. Can you verify you are not running out of fuel? Was the cam degreed? Valve springs correct for the application?

Now the tuning questions will start - timing especially. There is definitely power to be had with timing and carb adjustments. Make sure the plugs are the correct heat range and the secondary side of the ignition is all in good order.

Make sure it's aligned well enough so the tires are not pushing. Check the pinion angle, make sure it's not fighting the launch. Tire pressure, shocks, front end travel... ET is not all in the motor.

Stock converter? Could be slipping badly.

That's why I said it was vague, could be so many things it's hard to pin down an exact answer. Someone else with stock internals could easily be 1-2 seconds faster and you would never know why until you start delving into the details.
