Working on a 66 Dart with a 408. I have TTI headers and also bought their x-pipe as well. I am wanting to add cutouts into the X-pipe before I permanently put in place. My question is how do I know where would be the most effective place to weld them into place. Also do they need to point down or can they be mounted towards the sides? I am just going to be using manual style since I will only open them during a race day. (or maybe if the neighbor pisses me off!)
Thanks for any help you can throw my way.

I hung mine down but I see no reason why they can't go horizontal. Just mount them after the X pipe

I would have never thought to put them in after the x in the pipe. I was thinking before the X. Can I ask why after the x. What or how will this effect it? Have you ever done this? Its very interesting and Id like to hear more.
Thanks for replying with your thoughts.

Well the point of the x pipe is to improve scavenge and balance the exhaust flow side to side. Installing them before won't affect anything when they are closed but open it, it'll defeat the purpose of the x pipe and the exhaust, like any moving air or liquid will find the path of least resistance.

Yes, I installed a set on my 78 powerwagon, after the X pipe. Been there since 2003/2004 ish.

Can they go in front, probably, I'm no expert by any means, that's just what made sense to me when I thought about it

I`d put them as close to the header collector as possible, will be more like open headers. why would anyone want to run a 1/2 an open system at the strip ?

On My 500 inch 68 Dart, I put them ahead of the X-pipe - no special reason. -- I pointed them slightly down. My thinking, on that, was to carry the fumes away better.

or there are these
