Hey everyone, I hate to bring this subject up again but I need some opionions...I have a 1971 Dart Swinger that has the complete driveline out of a 68 GTS Dart, it is an "X" head engine, currently has manifolds, I recently bought a different cam and I'd like to put headers on it (every young guys dream) but I'm not 100% sure on which ones to go with....I know of TTI and Dougs, and many other brands, hooker, Hedman, patriot, etc....which would you guys go with for fitment wise? I know headers suck to install no matter what they are but what are the best fitment wise without breaking the bank, my Dart is a manual brake, power steering, column auto, 340 with the 727. Thanks in advance!

Pretty much answered your own question, in order.
TTI, Dougs, Hooker.

TTI's.

Doug's aren't listed as working with a column shift auto. Might be a fix for that, but on the application chart it says it's a no go.

The hookers for A-body's have a slip joint and go under the steering link, so even less ground clearance and more leaks. Everything else goes under the steering linkage as well. So, they'll end up flat in no time if you're lowered any at all. Or maybe even if you're not.

Thanks guys, my car isn't lowered at all it has the leaf springs and torsion bars out of the same GTS that the engine and transmission came out of.

I have a set of Schumacher headers, which I have heard fit as well or better than tti's

If buying new, I buy dougs over tti every time unless I find a smoking deal on a set of tti.

Dougs fit above the centerlink. No low hanging tubes and fit tighter to the car than tti's do.

Coated Dougs can be had from autozone using a 20% off code for about $500 delivered. Try that with tti. :) In fact there is a 20% code up on autozone right now!

How do Dougs fit as far as like on the car, do they fit similar to tti's or are they like the cheap crap that summit sells, really don't wanna spend a ton on them then turn around and flatten them the first time i drive it.

dougs is good. not cheap summit junk.

Haha just looked a set of the Dougs headers shipped to my door would be 502.39 i have til 10/29 to decide from autozone

Yeah I think the Doug's are great, I have a set on my Duster. Like crackedback said they go above the steering link unlike all the cheap ones. They actually are tucked in a little closer to the car than TTI's are, I've heard they give as much as an extra 3/8" or so of ground clearance compared to the TTI's. I'd buy the Doug's over TTI's for long tube headers.

But, like I already said, the Doug's application list says they don't fit auto on the column cars. I can't confirm that myself, my Duster was an auto on the column car but I converted it to a 4 speed manual and all my other cars are floor shifts.

TTI's..have used them on 2 different dusters, wouldn't use any other brand out there!!..my buddy has Dougs on his dart they DON'T fit as well as TTI's which is what he wishes he bought..

Type "dimple TTI" into the search box and see how many threads come up. They're not any better than Doug's.

All of these cars are a little different. Different combinations of parts, factory tolerances, etc. Doug's fit some cars betters than TTI's, TTI's fit some cars better than Doug's. Just depends on your car and specific combo.

I've got a set of Doug's long tubes, I've got a set of TTI shorty's. There's nothing any better about the construction of the TTI's. I actually like the Doug's better, but I wanted some more ground clearance for the Duster and needed shorties to do it because the Doug's long tubes already give better ground clearance than the TTI long tubes. The Doug's will go on my Dart instead, it's gonna sit a little higher than the duster.

Good for you:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

IF your looking to get rid of those hp manifolds give me a shout

I have the Doug's on a column shifted 904 in a dart with a magnum 318, miles of clearance everywhere.

Leave the factory manifolds on it, the headers are not worth the hassle on a stock engine.

I checked on Dougs actual site instead of summit and on there it shows that they do fit a column shift...

Summit will also price match autozone with free shipping. Did this a few months ago, mainly to get them here faster. Haven't installed yet, but they do look nice.

Well there you go. I was looking at the application list on Summit. Sounds like it's been done by a few members as well, which is more important anyway. I was just going off the list, all my cars are floor shifts.
