recently picked up a 1969 Dart, 340 w/ 4spd. In no particular order, I'd like to do a motor and train rebuild, an RMS front suspension - maybe rear as well, disk brakes front and rear, and new wheels/tires to go with it.

What I'm looking for input on is what order to do these things. My initial thought is to do the brakes and suspension first, so the car handles when more power is added with the new motor/trans. Nothing wrong with the suspension as it stands today, so I could do motor and trans first if I wanted to.

Looking for feedback and considerations on what to do first and why. Thanks in advance!

Safety first. If you do the motor, you'll be tempted to "get into it a little :D" and you'll want your brakes/steering and the such to be able to handle and stop like it should. My 2 cents

Front disc brakes was the 1st addition I made to my car. Did NOT like having to "plan" my stops with the front drums.

Save your money for gas and tires and go drive the wheels off it as it is? Live the moment as your forefathers did. Scared....

other suspension companies to consider

I'm using the HDK I just added the Fitech EFI and all I can say is WOW something to
consider or even the Holley Sniper from one test drive I can tell it has lots better response

Thanks for all the input, sounds like the suspension and brakes are the way to go first.

I'm always open to considering other shops/kits, but again was thinking either the RMS kit or the one from XV as I've read the best feedback from those two - frankly I'm not sure XV does a front end kit for an A body, only B and E bodies. I'll check them out, but am curious if there are people on thsi site that have used them already?

dodge71demon - just so I'm clear, your last comment about Fitech - are you saying you've tried both and the Sniper has better throttle response? The FiTech is also on my growing list of things to do, so i'm curious if you felt the Sniper was better?

Thanks in advance.....

BTW - does anyone have recommendations on where is the best place to buy parts like this - RMS, Wilwood disk kits, etc. Any specific vendors support this forum to check out?

Upgrade the Brakes. Do a search on the KH Disc Brakes for the front. It was the first consideration when getting my 72 road worthy again. I am also doing Hydroboost.... As for Rear Disk, that is all in what you want. I personally won't spend the money on it but you may have specific reasons to do it.

Front disk conversion, absolutely. Rear disks, don't waste your money, they are not necessary unless you just want bragging rights.
And get your front suspension rebuilt, with whatever system you decide to go with. Then add the new motor and tranny.

Most important, do these things one at a time so you can keep the car on the road while you make improvements. Lots of guys end up tearing the whole car apart, and then get overwhelmed or run out of money and never end up finishing the project.

Just my two cents.

Id go with factory style suspension and steering just with new bushings ball joints tie rods etc etc. you can convert the front to disc for pretty cheap and id look into the SSBC drilled and slotted rotors, factory single piston calipers will be fine, id either run manual brakes or vacuum assisted brakes, not downing the hydroboost guys but if you loose power steering you loose the booster. I believe you just have to swap upper or lower (cant remember) control arms from like a 79 volare. Theres a range of vehicles that will work thats just the only one I remember

You should build the crap outta the motor and buy a parachute!!!
