I picked up a couple of sets of A-body bucket seat tracks and I'm trying to figure out which track is for the driver, and which side is for the passenger.

I'll attach some pictures and label them as Track #1 and Track #2. Each have a different amount of what I call "over hang". The portion where the seat bolts up and hangs over the track.

Anyway, I'm hoping someone more experienced than me can point out which one goes on which side. The spare set of tracks I'll put up for sale.

Thanks!

On my 72, the driver side track adjusting lever is angled forward with the small spring in the front.

Passenger side lever is angled rearward with the spring in the back.

Hope this helps....Good question!!

On the seat track I believe when you push the seat back you stretch the spring and when you come forward you shorten the spring.

Yes, I think it helps. I think I can visualize what you're trying to say. So for the driver's side, you need to pull the lever back (towards the rear of the car) in order to adjust the seat. Is that correct? Then for the passenger side it's the opposite?

Yes, that makes sense too. So when you release the lever, the seat should spring forward, correct? I'm assuming that's to facilitate moving the seat sot hat people can get into the back.

Both sets of A-Body tracks that I have, there is one with more "overhang" than the other. I'll take some "straight on" shots when I get home tonight so that maybe this could help out other people as well.

Joe, Yes the driver side lever pushes back to adjust & passenger side is pushed forward. Also when looking at the tracks, you'll notice a very slight height difference between the front & rear of the track base. The taller side goes towards the front of the car....

Here's some more pictures of the seat tracks to illustrate how the outside tracks are different. How one has a wider "overhang" as I call it.

Hopefully this will help me identify which is which, and in turn help others as well. Most pictures I've found of bucket seat tracks weren't as detailed and I'm sure I could have made these better, but I tried!!

By your description, seems like "Track #1" would be the driver's side and then the other would be the passenger side.

I guess the next thing to do is to mount them up and see if they line up with the dimples on the floor of the car, which is my '74 Duster. It's at the body shop and I'm going to have them weld in the support plates onto the floor.

Once I have them mounted, I'll take more pictures.

Better question... I'm going from bench seat to 73 duster buckets... are the holes for the buckets there already also?

You should find 4 dimples stamped into the floor pan. you wont have the reinforce plates at the 4 inner most hole locations. You'll need 4 body plugs for the bench seat holes too.

Can I make a plate?

Sure, pics and drawings have been shared here before. Aftermarket offers reproductions too.
