Are these 273 commando valve covers on Ebay (not mine)?

Might be harder to find the missing wire loom fin than spend the extra 100$ and get complete ones.

The second set for $80 seem to be all there. They just need cleaned up and painted. Even the metal and rubber wire harness holders are still there.

Ain't that sumn'..... I just dug a set out yesterday looking for some Rocker Arm assemblies.... one is missing a fin also.... Mine are probably worth more in pieces than sold as a pair... Yep, someone should reproduce the fins....

If the used fins bring 25 each the standard covers are nearly free.
Chinese repops? Who knows what they would ask. One new would surely stand out. I imagine only a complete set of 4 new would look right.

The first set is for a 1965 while the second set is for a 1967 273 HP.

correct on the 65's...

The second set is for a 66 - it has the stove pipe PCV...

67 went to the "standard" grommet and metal PCV....

That 2nd "set" I believe is mismatched. Looks like 2 pass side covers?
Ps im still looking for a wire loom

It is easy to reproduce the fins. They are similar to standard aluminum heat sink extrusions.
Not similar enough to call "easy". The easy heat sinks are extruded, chopped, deburred, done.
In this case the 1 taller fin is ornate. Additional stamping operation required along with all that additional deburring.
If I did need 1 fin I would at least try to buy one of the ebay sets at a reasonable price. Deal for the fins alone and not pay the shipping for the rocker covers. No harm in asking, and hope for no harm in removal of the fins.

The 1965 Formula S I found with a "for sale" sign along a county road and purchased about ten years ago (see avatar) had the original air cleaner, AFB, and finned valve covers. Found out when I got it home the motor underneath it all was a 1980 318 with a 1966 commando intake manifold. The 318 had one piston with a hole burned clear through the top (still wondering how that happened). Someone had put in an open 8 3/4 (489 case) differential, which was nice of 'em. Anyway, the machine shop that rebuilt the 318 for me did a fine job, except for having painted the valve covers 318 blue. Some day I'll take them off and repaint them the correct wrinkle black, at least they still have the fins. Most of the A/C parts are still missing.

I'm thinking they may have the PCV and breather reversed. Should have PCV on passenger side with the wire harness holders on the passenger side for the harness going to the choke, temp sender, and alternator. Need better pictures!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, OK - Cool (now I see says the blind man!!!!)

They look like Commando covers to me with the PCV on the driver's side and the breather on the passenger side. I'm no expert though!!

Yes yer right!

If you look closely at my posting and foto in #14 above, you can still see the factory decal/sticker on the very front of the chrome air cleaner. When it is placed with the decal toward the front as pictured, the fitting for the valve breather hose points toward the passenger side valve cover. This would indicate two things for me regarding 1965 commando: a) must be a clean air package motor b) the PCV was factory installed on the driver's side. Maybe I'm mistaken but that is my intepretation of the evidence at hand. On the other hand, maybe the factory decal was on the side of the chrome air cleaner and not facing the front. Not that it matters, on 1965 valve covers with stove pipe fittings, it works either way.

Those are '66 covers...big bracket on one...stove pipe PCV on other

Thanks. Too long ago for me to remember lol.... If someone is sitting on a set of M/T Aluminum VC I would do a swap.

C.A.P. package had a different breather cap placed on the left valve cover. That breather had a vapor hose routed back to the unsilenced air cleaner which also had a hose nipple.
PCV was on right cover and its hose routed to carb base on all. Does it matter which side the PCV valve is placed? I don't know. I know the heat riser in a right manifold makes all of that side hotter,,,, thus more vapor? Again I don't know. Their engineers fingered it all out so we don't need to know what the difference is.
Oh wait... Air in and vapor out must travel clockwise with the engine, LOL

I don't agree that saving every set is the better plan. How would anyone ever get than missing piece if there are no donors. To be honest, you are the vendor that I thought would see a value in separate single fins.
