I purchased a afb 4294s carb that was rebuilt by previous owners. 67 commando carb . Does anyone out there have the oem jet and step rods numbers . I opened this carb up before I installed it on the car to do a quick visual of everything inside the carb, It all looked to be there and correct. float levels were even on each side , didn't do a measurement check on floats though but when I tried to start the car it would not stay running . maybe the float levels were not set correctly . needle and seat issue . the accelerator pump was new , squirters were shooting gas out , so that was good .I'll pull it off the commando and go thru it . blow everything out . reinstall . hope for the best.
Here is what I have inside the carb. can someone varify that these numbers are the oem stock components inside this carb?
jets # frt. 347 rear 489 ... orifice size .047 frt .089 rear
step rods 16-403 .069x.058x.065
springs gold / yellow
squirter .... no number stamped on it.
pump new .

I did some research and found that the larger jet should be in the primary side . these jets are reversed. I'll double check when I open it up again. This maybe the problem why is has no idle circuit. NO FUEL . stayed tuned.

I found .089" (-389) front/ primary, .073" (-373) rear/secondary, and 16-403 rods, and 470 cfm

Thanks marco ! well the primary jet and step rod are correct then .. mine are just reversed .
my jet # .347... .047 jet orifice is pretty small wouldn't you think ?

Incase this applies... I remember reading somewhere that the CAP carbs had "stop" material over the adjust screws to limit their travel. We can see lead poured into a hole above all of them. Did CAP get additional steel slug/ball/other under that lead? I don't know Anyway.. The literature stated forcing the screw past the stop could damage them.

Im rebuilding my 67 commando #4295s. It looks original inside lol with the amount of crap in it. Specs in FSM for both 4294s and 4295s are ALMOST identical. Yours is for the manual, mine is for auto.
CAP #'s 4304S for Manual, 4305S for auto
Primary Jet .089 (both carbs)
2ndary Jet ..073(both carbs)
Low speed Jet #66-.033"(both carbs)
Step up Rod 2 stage 16-403 (4294S)
16-405 (4295S)

I have the rebuild kit, but may need to replace rods, jets. Please post up info if you end up replacing yours?

Heres link to my rebuild thread. Hope to add more to it this weekend.

ok.. Thanks !
Well I went thru the carb and found several things wrong,
here they are:
#1 ---------- 2 screws missing in the throttle plates, pri. and sec plates , and you could see thru the holes where the screws should have been . lean condition , sucking more air than need be .
#2---- the jet sizes were correct but reversed like I said earlier. bigger jet should have been in the pri side.
#3 ..... float level and drop were way off. wrong needle and seats .
#4 --- dirt in the fuel crossover canal .
#5 --- adjust on pump arm lever tong . the vent cap was staying open all the time.
That's it . should run like a swiss watch now.
try it this weekend.

OK fabo members , fixed all the issues mentioned above ... installed the carb and it still would not idle. the problem was the 89 jets and the 16-403 3 step rods , they were too fat and were blocking any fuel going thru at idle. solution was the install smaller step rods .guessing the fat part of the 3 step rods was too large for the 89 jet hole not letting any fuel to go thru or it just was not enough fuel for this motor .. after installing a smaller rod diameter it idled fine . Maybe that setup would work fine on a stock commando motor , but mine has a little more cam in it.
