What blasting equipment do you have and works? My sandblaster is almost as old as I am, has done a couple of cars with it and is pretty much worn out. I have a Harbor Freight 40lb Portable Soda Blaster and it worked better than I thought it would, but it is slow and will take forever to blast the entire Barracuda Body. I know Eastwood and Harbor Freight have a couple of larger blasters. Any other manufacturers? I also have a Harbor Freight blast cabinet and once I switched the gun and pick-up out for a TP Tools stuff it works 100x better. Soda blasting or Abrasive blasting? Pressure blaster vs siphon feed?

Budget, area that you have to work in, condition of sheetmetal ?
Under $500. Would like to stay in the $350-$400 range. I'll spend a little more If I can get one that will last another 30 years.

I think most of the car is rust free. There are a couple of areas with some rust. Front floor boards under driver and Passengers feet, there is a hole in the firewall under the cowl, rear quarter panels rotted thru but isn't a big area, and the gasket leaked on the rear window and rotted that out a bit.

I'll be blasting the entire car with it.

$500? but anything. most are the same quality at that price. if you have the cfm (150+) and want to spent a bit more try to find a used clemco or modublast
i have a small (100lb) uni-ram pot that i bought to use with a cabinet. it seemed to work ok but I use a $9000 pot everyday, big difference.

What's the CFM rating on your compressor?

Mine is 32@90 and is still relatively slow.

Its a Sanborn Black Max
5 hp
230 volt
60 gallon
140psi
12.7scfm @40psi
10.6scfm @90psi

That's about the smallest I even consider for blasting anything.

I used to have an 8.8 CFM @ 90 and it was really too small.

It would do small things like brackets but a battery tray would take too long.

I really wanted to switch over to Soda blasting, but after doing a little more research and found that you can't re-use the soda, it seems like to much of a waste to use it once and done. The final nail in the coffin for Soda blasting was that the person I talked to from SPI specifically says not to Soda blast the car when using their Epoxy primer. Back to abrasive blasting then and there are really no Abrasive Blasters that stood out from the crowd. I knew my old sandblaster worked with my air compressor so I decided to rebuild it.

Don't know if they still offer it but I have an old craftsman hopper blaster (about 70#) that works very well. Used feed grade soda in it the other day but it was less abrasive therefore slower. I usually use (play sand) in it which is available most anywhere. My HF cabinet works well to poor depending on which minute you are using it.

Get the gun and pickup from skat blast for the harbor freight cabinet, u won't be sorry. The cabinet works 100% better.
