Doing a 340 conversion on a '67 Barracuda. Original 273 V8 car, heat only, auto trans. The a-bodies experts here have done a lot of posting on this topic, and I've done some homework. I know the part I need is extremely hard to find. I'm looking to make sure I'm going after the right part so I can pay big money with confidence in the fit, and possibly locate the part itself.

I believe I need a part number 2785312 fan shroud.

My radiator is a 2785929, which forum members have said goes with the "312" shroud. The links to the Mopar radiator guide specs say I have a 67 A-body / 22" / 383 / Heat / Either Trans radiator. I expected the 273 car to have a 2785973 radiator as the guide says it would, but what I have may not be original. If I'm reading it correctly, the "312" shroud fits both of these 22" radiators -- and only those, unique to 1967. The reproduction shroud cited for '68/'69 340 applications seems to be for part number 2785614 -- not for the 1967 V8 fan shroud, the "312".

Options in order of preference - please weigh in with corrections or better ideas!

1. Locate a "312" as the match for the 28785929 radiator. Pay high but fair price :)

2. Replace radiator with a '68 or '69 part, use the reproduction shroud or original (also unobtainium).

3. Go with an aftermarket radiator / shroud combo. I started to look at this but the models available don't map to '67 applications. I am wondering if this is a custom order or maybe a bracketed thing that can be made to fit.

4. ??? Other ideas

Thanks !

The 22 inch radiator and shroud is so close to the same size as the fan, The shroud is mostly hole. It captures air in a little 2 inch wide strip down 1 side and corners about the size of your palm. The with without difference is minimal, which sheds some light on why the later models got 26 inch radiators. A shroud makes a huge difference where there's a 26 inch radiator before a 18 to 20 inch fan.
By 1973 the conditions had changed. Idling in traffic jambs, etc.., influenced their engineers to implement this change. My point is... If we can simply cut away some of the support and poke the 26 radiator and shroud in the earlier builds... Why wouldn't we?
