Well I tried alcohol today and was pretty impressed with the results. Turbo 318 running 12 lbs boost. Megasquirt controls fuel and ignition. Im aiming for 11.5 afr at boost but what should I try for ignition timing? Can I advance it a little more?

11.5 afr on E85 is pretty lean, stoich is about 9.7-9.8. Under full boost I am running in the 7.2 range. I wouldn't add timing until you get the mixture dialed in. I am in the 22-24 BTDC range at 14 lbs with E85. BTW, where are you in CO?

Those are read from a gasoline wideband, I should have mentioned that.

I kept on keepin' on hearin' bout this. So I did a search. There is no place to buy E85 for hundreds of miles, around here..............

WHERE ARE you guys that you can get this?

I typically run the 450-600whp turbos I tune on E85 ~12.0 A/F, with good results. The mass of fuel even at that "leaner" A/F is similar to being very rich on pump Gas, so keep that in mind.

Typically, you should be able to advance timing quite a bit but its possible to over time some engines past MBT on E85. I'd try a couple degrees at a time and see how it goes.

On AFR I'm following Mark Sullens recommendations, targeting a 10.8 (gas scale) at WOT. That may be a little rich but is safe until I can get my tune dialed in. Timing, I have mine at 28* total under boost which is 7psi max.

Good info here on E85+boost.

That thread is interesting but can easily confuse the a new user to E85. Most of those guys are running +800whp, Carbureted Big Blocks, so the context is a but skewed when trying to "convert" it to lower whp small blocks.

T56MaxTorq's 11.5:1 is more than safe for a starting point.
24 degrees at boost spike tending to ~28 degrees at 6000rpm would be an ok starting point.

11.5 is too lean for e85 on gas scale . I'd like to see it at 10.5-.8

Are you using pump e85? Depending on where you're located geographically you're probably not getting e85, it's probably e70-75

I'd say 23-25* is safe, not knowing anything about your combo.

Sorry but high 10s is just pig Rich on E85, even with a high boost Turbo.

On +600whp turbo 4cly, I've picked up over 20whp just leaning A/F out to high 11s.

So is there a "tried and true" E85 conversion when using a gasoline gauge?

No just like Gas there's no one size fits all A/F.

Again, I tune a few hundred turbo 4cly a year and most are on E85(400-600whp), i have plenty of experience with it. Stick in the 11.5-12.0 range for your low boost V8 and you'll be fine.
