Friend is a Cop....

It's a common misconception that everyone who immigrates to the USA is running from poverty.

I am a legal immigrant and I was never running from poverty because my family is considered very wealthy in my former country.

Why do I prefer America......I am a female and I don't like the idea of being forced into an arranged marriage for starters. I don't like the idea of being told that an educated woman is a waste of education. I went to college in America and earned my degree of my own choice, so I don't need a man who is a complete stranger to me telling me what to do. I don't need a society to tell me I cant own my own car and work on it......I will buy as many as I want in America. LOL

I can take care of myself, I did all the legal immigration paperwork myself and followed the rules without anyone holding my hand, and I paid all the associated fees with my own money. If anyone needs their hand held for every damn thing in life then it becomes a question of survivability in a state of nature. People like that would be best suited in a communistic or liberal state where everything is regulated and handed to those who cant otherwise take care of themselves.

Living free in America is an earned privilege and shouldn't be looked at as a right by anyone. The reason it is the greatest country on earth is because it was made that way by a bunch of people who were survivors and could take care of themselves instead of relying on someone else for basic needs. (see Maslow's hierarchy of needs) If someone cant afford or cant figure out how to get the paperwork done....first red flag.

I wish I had multiple accounts here to click LIKE more times.
Well said, Ma'am.

Rainy, I have always admired you although I have never met you. I can tell by your writings you are very intelligent and I have absolutely no problem with you coming to this country. Wish everyone that has immigrated here had your values and attitude! Hope your repair business is working out great for you.

Is she the same as RaniDart? I think I sold here some parts once!

I know a Korean family that immigrated here. they are an extended family that own several restaurants. they BRAG how they pay thy pay NO federal income tax. exempt the first 5 yrs here, then they just SELL the business to a cousin , back and forth. I have no reason to believe this not a fact. total BS. our govn't sets this up. and look at all the problems the Fd govn't causes their citizens trying to work, live, own a small business. et.
I bet this. the vast majority of US citizens have no issue with the immigration of worthy people, that will work and pay taxes, learn the English language, support the local communities where they live, fly the American flag, become REAL and legal US citizens, obey our laws. NOT take advantage of the welfare laws, etc etc...
I say keep the good immigrants and export the sorry white, black, green, pink, poka dot, etc US TRASH..??? ha

We have every right to enforce our immigration laws, but we should consider the effects of changing our enforcement policy. There may be unintended consequences--as an example, what happens to a poor kid whose dad is deported? Maybe that kid, a U.S. citizen, is now more likely to become a criminal? Maybe letting the dad stay here is the least harmful option? I'm not saying it is, but it's something that should be considered. The government should look at the statistics on those things.

As a long-term solution, we ought to have a system where poor, uneducated foreigners can come here legally to work doing the jobs that Americans don't want to do (pick strawberries, scrub toilets, put up roofs, etc) and work toward citizenship. If it costs us a little bit extra to pay for their government services for a few years, we still come out ahead when they revitalize poor neighborhoods and eventually make enough money to pay taxes. We should see it as an investment.

For those who say there's already a process for legal immigration, I don't think it's that easy for the poor and uneducated.

i think you just called rainy, me , and perhaps a few others on here wealthy and edumacated?
i dont think that is accurate, but that is besides the point

it may not be easy, but it is the right thing to do, it is that simple

I'm with you. I'm not advocating for people to come here illegally. I'm just saying if there's a market for low-skilled labor, people will find a way to satisfy that market legally or not (same with the market for drugs, guns, etc). We could improve the process by creating a legal path for people who want to work hard in our country and raise their kids as Americans. To me that's something that bleeding-heart liberals and conservatives ought to agree on.

Hey! There's nothing wrong with working with your hands, as a janitor, or a roofer or a welder or a plumber or an electrician. Not everyone was meant for college. I certainly wasnt. Field hands used to be the family members of the farm owners...

As a carpenter, I see my trade as one to be proud of. You do see many Hispanics in the building trades. Often times you'll see a crew of ten guys....ONE of them reads and understands English well enough to read blueprints and communicate with the other Americans.

We screwed up right in the beginning by not enforcing the laws as well as saying born here means automatic citizenship and now they are the ones paying for it and we can't make a decision because it's already screwed up.
Now we all want to do something about it, so deport the Mom, Dad, Both, whatever and there is a legal minor citizen/s that gets separated from his/her parents.

We (ha, we) screwed this up and now it's going to trash families to screw it back down again.

It would be somewhat simpler had we not said if illegals have a child in the US, that child is now a US citizen.
Whoever made that law and got it passed is the biggest part of the problem when it comes to solving illegal problems over family separations.
Sometimes you really have to wonder if some of our lawmakers are plants specifically here to screw up the country.

There is nothing wrong with path to citizenship as it stands because it is possible to attain citizenship.

I mentioned a well off family to make the point that not everyone is running from poverty. I never said I used my families' money to advance my relocation agenda. In fact, using their money would translate into doing things their way, so I still had to rely on myself to make things happen for myself.

I am saying, if I was able to cross all the T's and dot all the i's.....what is wrong with everyone doing the same?

If someone can't get themselves into legal status unassisted then they don't belong here

our country has work .... IE ( hand labor veg, frit pickers) that require unskilled, uneducated workers. period. should these people be exploited? NO. should they automatically get $15/hr that the NEW generation of "burger flippers" sometime demand? NO.
I am not ashamed to admit have worked basically outdoors, with my hands for the most part of my life. white, male, born here, my ancestor been here many generations. yep, I got a BS in 1970, Ag not rocket science. I relate to people working with their hands, manual labor some would call it. maybe shilled labor??
any citizen, or potential citizen, should be regarded with due consideration that proves to be an honest, hard working, law abiding individual. this whole immigration issue has been " run away from" by Washington for decades. it will not be settle easily and without many problems, but it is way past due to resolve the matter!???

If the majority of farm workers were deported, the Gov't should then limit Welfare benefits so that the able body but LAZY Americans get off of the couch and into the fields!

If a person is capable of doing better but chooses to do poor work, that person is ignorant. Just in case you didn't understand it spelled properly, you may understand it as Igg-nent.
No personality....Never been accused of that. Try again and do better next time.
