anyone know where I can get a clip for this generic Chi-comm "ready to run" HEI distributor? Online sellers dont carry parts. Its about 1 1/8 inches relaxed in its ID. clipped its about 1 3/8

Try KMJ performance. They sell that distributor. I've got one, and several other parts from them. They've always got right back to me and are great people to deal with

Kmj won't sell me the clips alone. Perhaps I'll make one with an old distributor I have. Bummer. It's even their house brand.....

I may have one for you if they don't get back to me REAL SOON. Put that same distributor in my truck 2 months ago. Went to start it before work this morning and nothing!!! Ran fine up until now. Coil still works but the modules dead. Even had it hooked up exactly like they recommend. I kinda figured it wouldn't last long but 2 months?????? Come on. Guess I'll see if they send me a new one but I think I'm going back to my 30yo original one

You can make your own from similar sized spring stock. Something like rewind spring from B&S rotary mower. Bend to match to the one you have, heat bend areas to slightly more than red, use smooth pliers to avoid nicks. When bends are complete, heat treat. Heat to cherry red, all, quench in 30 non-detergent motor oil. To temper, lay spring in molten ladle of lead, let cool. The spring wiil, float, do not immerse. Test see if it works.

Kit, your kidding..right? I dont have molten lead. I think I can make one from something. I could just zip tie it in a pinch but I think I can make one with some Ford clips that come with screw on anchors. Dartish, Keep me informed. Ill pay for your troubles. The module seems just to be a 4 pin HEI. The reluctor is crazy in there though.

Is the reluctor in yours tight on the shaft? Mine wobbles like crazy

Mine is rock solid, never run. Seems like a pretty nice piece for what they sell for new. a normal reluctor is a 8 vane rotor that flies past a small pickup. This one is crazy.

Never paid any attention if mine was loose when new or not. Wobbles on the shaft pretty good now after 2 months in my pick up. I wired mine up through a hd toggle straight from the battery like their diagram suggested. Thing ran good when it worked. Below zero out early in the morning, or with a warm engine, it started instantly. Ran smooth, pulled hard and did everything it was supposed to until the module crapped out. They want me to call Monday to arrange a warranty exchange. Wel see how that goes. The module has the pins coming out the back side instead of the ends like a typical gm unit.

The multi-point pick up is similar to GM HEI. All points align, so it gets around timing variations on a cylinder basis due to run-out found on single pickup point. The pickup coil is on a central bobbin underneath.

Got a hold of KMJ and theyl send me a new distributor as long as I pay to ship my old one back and pay the shipping on the new one

sounds like a good deal. Get an extra clip for me...... :)

I had the same issue with the clip, cant find anywhere. I ended up putting a hose clamp around the shaft and used a spring hooked to it to hold the cap down.

I am using one like that, without the HEI module, to run my Fitech EFI with MSD 6AL , They are similar to a Bosch Holden V8 HEI distributor on the inside.. I have taken mine apart. Found some online directions for them to get the details. I like the pickup design and especially the solid plate (no wobble) vacuum advance, better than the Mopar performance versions. IMO
