New Owner, Humbly Looking for Guidance

Sounds like a very solid platform. I'm anxious to hear all the specs on the motor. Got me on the edge of my seat.

Alrighty - There's a date set. On this Saturday I *plan* to go pick-up the car. I will *try* to get pictures throughout the transition of possession, and the loading it up in the trailer. One thing that tickles me (because I'm a bit odd I guess) is that I will be towing this Mopar product with a Mopar product. My 2000 Dodge Ram 2500HD 4X4 Quad Cab with a Cummins and 6 speed manual.

I always enjoy doing anything with that truck. It has a 5" straight pipe. And I mean STR8! No muffler, no cat, no resonator. And the sound? Oh wow. Enough about the truck, that's for different forums! :D

69conv: It is a solid platform. My buddy who is giving me the car, is as smart as a person gets. He never half-arsed anything. I do not know what specs you want to know. But anything more than the following, let me know. It is a 360 engine. I would imagine the bore / stroke / heads / pistons are likely the original items. I doubt the cams are original. The way it sounds ... it doesn't exactly lope, but it sounds like maybe it's halfway between a stock engine, and one with so much overlap, that it doesn't idle so well (which is the sound most hotrodders like to hear ... the loping (I believe it's called)).

Which is just about exactly how I suspect my buddy would have wanted it. Not loping enough to be a problem on the street, but more "fun" that just a mild street engine. I can also tell you, he just put a fresh battery in it, and a brand new carburetor. I forget the size, but he put the old carburetor in the new carburetor box and left it in the trunk. I would imagine the receipt for it is there, I'll look that up. If not, I'll ask my buddy the size. I'm guessing it is 600 cfm.

It has air bags in the back, and I know they're basically empty, so I will have a bicycle pump and pump them up a bit if it gives any trouble just limping into my enclosed trailer (I doubt it).

There's only one possible issue with this whole deal. A bit of my story. My buddy, he's got to be 80. He just sold his house and moved in with his son. But now he has basically moved out, and is living in his camper full time. I think he just doesn't want to purchase a house and have to have someone to deal with that when he passes. But, some (or a lot) of his stuff remains at his son's house. I'm not sure what all. But that's where the car is. My buddy told me that he has heard through the grapevine (which means one of his other sons) that the wife of the son who he moved in on (temporarily) is making some comments about "abandoned property." So my buddy thinks there's some thought running through the D-I-L's head that she's going to claim as much of his stuff as she can ... including the Scamp. But, my buddy says he's 90% sure his son will not make a beef about me coming to pick-up the car, and etc. But we will see. The only bit of strategy (recommended by my buddy) is to not call his son until Friday (the only day during the week he's at home) to let him know I will be there Saturday to pick up the car.

That will limit the amount of time they (and especially the D-I-L) can react to me coming, and try to pull something. Worst case is, I call my buddy, he has to drive a few hours to provide me with the vehicle. He seriously doubts it will come to that.

A bit of a story ... sorry. But wish me luck!!!
